On day 13 in the process of trying to complete this request which was to take up to 10 days and I was not receiving any incoming calls, an email was sent to me on the 13th day, January 7, 2013 assessing charges to release my phone number in the amount of $31.44. I contacted them immediately.
This information of charges were never brought to my attention during any of the chat sessions, and was never stated in my initial purchase of this fee, if I decide to cancel service. I immediately contacted customer support and questioned the charge.
I asked where is this information located in the Terms and Conditions on their website or was it in a field section within the customers account, and where could I find this clause requiring this fee.
There was no such term in their online agreement, but rather than admit it did not exist and remove the charge from my account the agents would disconnected the session. I had a session with 3 different agents that lasted for 1 1/2 hours, and no one could explain these additional charges, as they were not stated in the Terms and Conditions online for customers to read.
Although magic jack could not show these fees exist in their customer agreement, they refuse to remove the fee. My phone line was blocked for 5 days from incoming calls, all incoming calls went directly into my voice mail. I an currently going into day 7 because Magic jack has blocked my incoming calls.
What makes this a Ripoff is that YMAX does not include this information anywhere on their online website. This tactic allows them to charge what ever amount of fees they feel they can get away with when a customer cancels service, and wish to port out their number, they could just block all incoming calls which does not allow your phone to ring, which does not allow you to have full service.
And further delay releasing your existing number to another carrier to make you pay charges to keep your original number that you brought to magic jack.
