The jury is still out on this enterprise for me. This appears to be top quality husband and wife home building contractor business. However to date it has turned out to be a series of ineffective communication errors between the couple or it could just be a "good cop/ bad cop" routine at shaving expenses from the cost of building homes.

As a trades man I can't help but to be impressed with Mr. Markmiller's attention to detail of his home building efforts. As a person doing business with these people I am alarmed at the willingness to short change payments due on invoices and the creative excuses used not to pay monies due.

I am hoping to see that this is more poor communication between the buyer, Dianna Markmiller and husband and not an intentional hustle.

August 7, 2014

So I posted my review in the morning of August 7, 2014. By about 3:30pm on August 7, 2014 MarkMiller Construction Inc, operated by MARKMILLER MARK JONATHAN and assisted by his lovely and talented wife Dianna Markmiller sent a text message to my phone that they were seeking a restraining order to prevent the posting of any information about the non payment of materials they had with me.

Apparently public postings of improper conduct by this construction company, CA State License 563329 is not to be tolerated.

The essence of the problem here is Dianna Markmiller of Markmiller Construction Inc, CA ordered plant material and requested planting services of the plants that would have taken 2 people, 2 - 8 hours days to complete. At Dianna Markmiller's written request we drove about 200 miles during 8 hours (more or less) making two trips for large tall shrubs Markmiller Construction Inc, required for their construction project at 176 Ocean Lane, Carpinteria, CA.

After making the second trip with the rest of the large shrubs, Mark Markmiller (no that is not a typo someone did name their son Mark with the last name of Markmiller) then stated he did not want us to plant the plants. We had scheduled our work with them and cleared our schedule of other clients work orders and spent about 98.00 in fuel. Mr. Mark Miller kindly gave us $40.00 for gas, very white of him, and asked us to come back when we had the large primary shipment of olive trees for the site, which was to be August 2, 2014.

That delivery went well, and I have to say Mr. Markmiller is no slacker general contractor, he was right in there working like heck to help place and plant his large olive trees.

On Monday August 4, 2014 in the afternoon we delivered 3 remaining medium sized olive trees and this where the fit hit the shan. I spent the weekend trying to figure out a reasonable billing fee for the previous weeks full day shrub delivery effort that resulted in 2 lost days of labor work.

To keep matters brief here, I was told that since Markmiller Construction Inc, has cancelled the planting work before it had started and that since there was no "WRITTEN" work order or contract for the delivery of the shrubs, there would be no payment for that whole days worth of driving, which by the time we got back home was almost a 300 mile day. That Mr. Markmiller had generously paid $40.00 for the gas and that was just the way it was going to be.

Markmiller Constuction Inc. offered to pay $450.00 on a deeply discounted $526.00 bill, the 16 hours of drive time being basically at no charge, yeah really it is true!. Then Markmiller Construction Inc, offered to pay $250.00 on the deeply discounted bill of $526.00 - the bill was $526 because there was a small crane fee of $250.00 that Mark Markmiller was not contesting - then Markmiller Construction Inc. mailed a check for $420.00 ( no I have no idea where that figure came from  and have not been given any account of the figure .)

So now there is new balance of remaining of $146.00 that been demanded in fairly harsh terms by myself, no foul language or threats violence, just plenty of promised postings of my business dealings with Diane and Mark Markmiller and Markmiller Construction Inc.

I did explain that to them that money due was need for my son's college funds since he is leaving to study with some Catholic Fathers in Austria in a couple of weeks and that I would be very aggressive, but polite and non violent and lawful in the collection of these monies. This has been greeted with the efforts to get a restraining order and prevent this information from becoming public.

I give 2 stars since I respect the fact the even thought Mr, Markmiller is penny pinching chisler of contractor trying make a buck off someone else's effort, he really does get in there and work hard himself, and one has to respect that at least.

Extortion or Slander?

AUTHOR: Mark - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 28, 2015

Unfortunately, this is the sadder side of internet reviews.  This review, posted by Christopher Gilcrest, was an extortion attempt against my company.  "Pay me money, or I will trash your company on the internet."

Christopher Gilcrest has since pleaded guilty in Ventura County superior court. vcdistrictattorney.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/15-034-Gilcrest-K-Wold.pdf .  As part of his sentence, upon his release from jail, he is ordered to remove his postings about my company.

Christopher Gilcrest posted this false review about my company on both Yelp and Ripoff Report.  I contacted Yelp, and they understood the situation, and took down his review.  I then also contacted Ripoff Report, and asked them to take it down.  Ripoff Report refused.
