Maximum Coatings DFW is a powder coating business.  I dropped my stuff off on Monday and David Sr. said would be done by Friday of that same week.  Friday I called to check and David Jr. said they were closed because they were moving and would be in the new facility over the weekend and BTW my stuff wasn't done.   It would have been nice if they told me about the move when I dropped my parts off.

Immediately, I went up there to get assurance that the parts would be done the following week as that was the drop dead week for me to get the parts reassembled.   Again David Sr. said they would be completed.  Although they had my parts for 4 days already and had not even moved them from where I placed them in the showroom initially,  I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt so I left my stuff for them to complete based on David Sr stating that they would be done the next week.  David Sr. called me on the following Monday and said that they were running behind and would not be done as promised.

I went and got the parts and was a little irritated after being lied to twice, especially when I planned ahead and had the parts at the coaters 10 days before I needed them (typical turn around is two to three days at a decent powder coating outfit.)  I was told by David Sr. "That he thought I would be happy that he called"  - REALLY!  I am supposed to be happy that you had done nothing with my parts but move them around your shop and happy that I was lied to directly to my face twice.  No I would have been happy if my parts were done! Then he cops an attitude with me - now that is customer service right there - lie to your customers and then give them attitude when they call you on it!

Most powder coaters have a two or three day turn around.  I took the parts to another powder coater who could get the job done.  Maximum Coatings states that they have a 5 year warranty - with service like this, I doubt they will be in business very long to honor that warranty.  Be cautious on any dates that they promise because they do not stand behind their word.

Let the consumer decide!

Caveat emptor!

I guess the future consumer will have to decide how they wish to proceed based on two sides of the story.  However, I would suggest that the consumer do a search on-line from other customers who have had similar experiences with Maximum Coatings as I am not the only one - unfortunately, I found them too late.

The purpose of this response is to clarify some of David's comments.  Some of his comments are factual - others, simply are not.

Initially, I spoke with David Jr and David Sr on Friday August 18, 2014 - first, on the phone and then I took the bike up in person for them to take a look at what I wanted done.  After the weekend ride, I removed the parts I wanted to have coated and dropped them off on Monday July 21, 2014. I was told by David Sr. that the parts would be completed by the end of the week which would have been Friday July 25, 2014. We discussed that I had a ride planned for August 1, 2014 and needed time to reassemble but I WAS NOT told that they were to be closed and moving on Friday July 25, 2014. David Sr. DID mention that they were working on a new larger location during our conversations but failed to mention that the moved would be that very week or impact my parts.   This disclosure would have been nice to know and I would have probably taken the parts somewhere else had I known - I am sure that is why he did not disclose this information when I dropped the parts off.

I called on Friday July 25, 2014 (not Wednesday as David stated - I so wish I had called on Wednesday) to see if my parts were finished as promised and when I could pick them up.  I spoke with David Jr. who told me that parts were not completed and his father should have never promised the parts to be completed this week because they were in the process of moving and were closed for the move that day.  It is true that at that point I was a little annoyed because it had been 4 days, my parts were not completed and this is the first that I had heard that they would be closed and moving this week, so I returned to Maximum Coatings.  It is true that I did take two additional items (2 rear crash guards that I acquired the day before) to add to the pile especially since they hadn't started at this point.  However, the main reason I went was to get face to face reassurance that the parts would be done.  David Sr. looked me in the eye and said yes they would be done (including the two additional parts).

Based on this conversation and his reassurance, I decided to leave the parts as previously stated; however, I did tell him to let me know on Monday (July 28, 2014) if the parts could not be completed that week as I had my bike apart and needed to reassemble before my trip.  The main frustration with this whole deal is that I was promised twice that the parts would be completed and the net result is that they were not.  It is not like this was a last minute job or that I had them on a time crunch when I initially dropped off the parts on Monday July 21, 2014 - I brought the parts to Maximum Coatings 10 working days before I needed them and the typical turn around that I have experienced from other companies is a 2 to 3 day turn around. They initially quoted 4 to 5 days and I was good with that.   I grew up taking people on their word and still believe today that your word is your bond and your reputation; unfortunately, words are just words to others in today's world.

It is true that I did mention when I dropped the parts off and when I went back for reassurance on Friday that I was leading a group of Christian riders to Austin on Friday August 1, 2014 (but not 75, who leads a group of 75 motorcycles! That would be split up into many smaller groups) and that I felt it would be a great opportunity for Maximum Coatings to get exposure for their business.  This was not a threat - just an opportunity for a business owner to complete a job that he could be proud of and drive additional business through a happy customer.

It is true that David Sr. did call on Monday July 28, 2014 and stated that they would not be able to get the parts finished (they hadn't even started) because the oven wasn't ready and they were already backlogged.  The backlog fact would have been nice to disclose during our Friday conversation as I would have taken my parts elsewhere - again, I am sure that is why this information was not disclosed.  It is true that I did pick up the parts at that point in time and yes I was more than a little annoyed after being lied to twice on completion dates - yet David Sr. expected me to be grateful that he called. It doesn't work that way in the real world - I would have been happy to have completed parts on the date that was promised or even finished sometime before I left but I received nothing but lip service.

David Sr. implied in his rebuttal that I used foul language with him and that is simply not true.  I typically do not use profanity so David Sr. is incorrect in that statement and I think he put that in his rebuttal to add drama and gather sympathy.  My ONLY comment to him was when we were loading the uncoated parts into my vehicle and I stated "Word of mouth has killed many businesses and everyone that was counting on me to lead this ride has been asking the status of my bike all week and whether I am going to have my bike reassembled" that is when David responded "I thought you would be happy that I called.  I can tell you are annoyed.  Have a nice day!" and he walked off.

The story does have a happy ending - I took the parts to Trinity Powder Coating that very day (Monday July 28th at closing).  Trinity did a fantastic job and returned the parts in 3 days for LESS than Maximum Coatings was going to charge.  I was able to get the bike assembled Thursday evening and had a great ride to Austin on Friday.  I handed out all of the Trinity Powder Coating cards that they gave me and I am sure that Trinity will see additional business based on the great job that they actually completed.

I am going to keep this simple.

Yes Stacy from Rockwall is correct he did drop off his parts and I did say that we would try and have the parts done by the end of the week. Now with that being said Stacy from Rockwall was also informed at that time ,that we were moving to a new location and that’s why I was going to try and get them done before we moved.

Now as for Stacy from Rockwall’s parts being left in a specific location in our showroom, They were left there because we were working on parts for 3 other Harleys and a Honda Goldwing and I didn’t want to take any chances with his parts getting mixed in.

Stacy from Rockwall also called that Wednesday to see if his parts were done and David Jr told him they were not completed yet but he had hoped that we would get them done by Monday. David jr said at that time Stacy from Rockwall sounded annoyed and immediately said “I am leading a church group ride next weekend and they will all what kind of job you did”

As for a Powder coater having a 3 day turn around on Harley parts? it deppends on the powder coaters work load. Bikers love their bikes and the parts that go on those bikes are like fine jewelry, so we don't rush perfection.

Stacy from Rockwall was also correct he did come back to the shop that Thursday, he says it was for reassurance, but I seem to remember him dropping off more parts that he decided to get done. Stacy from Rockwall did ask me again at that time will his parts be done in time, I explained to him that were still running behind and I would have to do them at the new location. I also explained to him that the contractors said we would be up and running by Monday morning at the new location, so I didn’t for see any reason why we couldn’t get his parts done.

He replied to me “Please call me Monday if you don’t think you will get them done in time” “ I Have a guy that says he can get them done in 3 days” I said ok I would do that. Needless to say, The contractors arrived late on Monday and I immediately called Stacy from Rockwall and informed him that don’t feel we will get the parts done in time, which is what he asked me to do. He said ok I’ll come get them first thing in the morning and hung up the phone. Five minutes later he called back and said I’ll come get them now.

Stacy from Rockwall drove up about 2 hours later walked up I greeted him he didn’t say a word and took inventory of his 23 parts that were all still there. I helped him load the parts in his jeep and then Stacy’s exact words to me were “I have 75 people that are going to hear about how you guys ^%$^&%# me around for a week!” With that remark I didn’t get an attitude, but Stacy from Rockwall is only partially correct. My exact words were “ I’m sorry, but I did exactly what you had told me do!” Stacy from Rockwall made some more snide remarks and I told him to have a nice day

Once again I apologize to Stacy from Rockwall that we were on able to do his parts and for that, he feels we ripped him off.  So i figure that’s why he has listed us on this site. All I can say is we are now up and running at our new location 12214 Currency Circle and we will try better in the future to manage expectations, because I don’t want any customer leave my shop feeling like Stacy from Rockwall did.
