On Jan. 8th I made a cash deposit to my account to cover a telephone payment made to my health insurance. The deposit was made before 3pm. On the following day, which was a Saturday , I received a call from Risk Management Services, a division of Visa Debit which handles fraud, to notify me of suspicious activity on my debit card.  The activity was suspicious, because in their words their was one transaction in a small amount which was immediately reversed (by the merchant??) but then there was a transaction for 217.80 for music downloads and their records showed the transaction originating in New Jersey I believe.  This call came to me at around 8:30 am however I didn't receive it until later in the day when my bank was already closed.

Ok, so I immediately asked Visa to cancel the card and said I would deal with the bank on Monday.  On Monday it was brought to my attention that the merchant was named HDtracks and are exclusively in the business of digital music downloading . I don't have any music on my phone and I don't have internet so I know I didn't download anything.  Also it was made clear that the transaction was cleared at 6:30 am, if on Eastern time zone would have been 5 :30 on my time zone but as I said I wasnt awake at that hour.

In the next week I lost the amount of money claimed by the merchant as well as $78 in bounced check fees that occured as a result of my own charges not being processed in a timely fashion so even when I had money to cover them the pending charge from HDTracks blocked my transactions.  I had changed the debit card thinking the transaction happened by me losing it but it was still in my hand. It took like 2 weeks to restore the money and lost check fees back but in that time I still just wanted to know how the card and account information got into someone elses hands.

Ok so fast forward to Feb. 26.  I was checking my bank balance and noticed the same amount withdrawn again.  I asked and found out that the merchant disputed my dispute and sent my bank info supposedly about my phones IP address and that somehow proved that I made the charges.  So I asked Mazuma to show me what was sent.  The record shows the IP address to my phone which is available to the phone app store where when I set up my account I had to place my debit card information.  However the email address the bank said was mine was definitely not mine, and to top it off, the contact number the merchant listed for their company was the number to PayPal customer service.  It took me another week to restore the fees and money again plus I was out the money in the same time period I had missed work due to a nasty ear infection and could not even afford to go to the doctor because I had a co pay. I was told this money is only back in my account "provisionally" until the merchant can provide an itemized listing of what was bought, but I say this is out and out fraud and that I shouldn't have to worry that any scam artist with hacking skills can tie up my money by any fraudulent means they see fit and Mazuma sides with them. The fact that I lose work and sleep waiting for this to be in my favor is ridiculous.  I think Mazuma made a mistake in the first place and since it gave me the money back and not the merchant it can't keep the fees associated with these types of online transactions.  That is their problem and this is my money.
