One year ago I was approached by a salesman named Bill Doehne representing the company United Merchant Services. He told me all about the advantages of accepting credit cards with a machine leased through MBF Leasing. The actual processing would be handled by Electronic Payment Systems.

The terms seemed fair at first, especially since I was told that they would design and host a website for my company at no extra charge. The website never happened after I submitted the text and photos they asked for. But I could look past that one small issue, right?

At the time of the sale and contract signing I had one concern. Bill did tell me that it was a four year lease, and i was very hesitant to enter such a long term contract. He then assured me that if it turned out that I didn't use the machine as much as expected to simply call him and United Merchant Services would help me transfer the lease to a new merchant.

When I decided to call in and get out of this rediculous lease I found that United Merchant Services no longer existed. All phone numbers and contact info was invalid. When I tried to contact MBF directly I was told that I didn't have an account there, I must be looking for a different MBF!

Also, I was told that the processing compay was month by month. Well, after contacting them (Electronic Payment Systems) I was told that I am in a yearly contract and that intent to cancel their services must be sent in writing 90 days prior to the contract renewal date! In looking over my paperwork I can find nothing stating a term of contract.

One more thing... All through the contract I signed the dates change. Some are writen as 1/24/08 (the actual date signed) and some are writen 1/24/07! Also, they never get my name or the name of my company correct.

If only I had typed the names of these companies into ONE search engine I would have ran as fast as I could.

I am starting the process of filing complaints with the Attorney General of Washington state and Illonois (where MBF is based)

You are learning the hard way

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 24, 2009

You have learned the hard way that these equipment leases are for one purpose only and that is to make money for the companies selling them. Depending on the type of equipment you were leased you should not pay over $59.00 per month on a three year lease. $40.00 on a four year lease. These are the charges an ethical company charges for card equipment. Secondly, MBF leasing is also CIT lease financial, Golden Cycle Leasing ect..... They are out of Chicago and if you call and provide them your social they should tell you what shell company it falls under. They only handle the equipment that you leased. They could care less if you go out of business because the first time they cannot get a payment from your checking account they will file a lawsuit against you in New York State. They figure that most people will not take the time or make the effort to answer these suits so they get a judgment against you and go after you with a collection agency. Save your writing time and go get a attorney. IF you have a leg to stand on they will advise you on what to do. If you shut down the bank account that they are taking money from they will RUIN your credit and it is all perfectly legal.
