My breaks started squeaking so I made a Saturday appointment at Meineke to have them checked. After the original inspection Larry gave me a quote of a little over $800.00. He said all my brakes were low and needed to be replaced. I looked at him and said $800.00 brake repair for a 2003 car with only 29000 miles on it. He looked at me quite surprised and said I usually check the car myself before I put through the quote. Let me go take a look.

He came back and said that his guy was just being overly cautious and I did not need all 4 brakes replaced. He also said that the price on the quote for the brake pads were too high. He adjusted the quote and came back to me with a price of $450.00 for the work I needed done. Needless to say I had no confidence in this companies work ethic so I told him to put the car back together and that I was taking the car to the dealer because if I needed that much work done on the brakes already then something was wrong.

I took my car to our local garage and here is what my car needed. Set of front brake pads. Remove and replace 4 wheels for brake inspection. Rears looked good. (4W/Disc) install front brake pads and maching 2 front rotors.

They also removed a nail from one of my tires and fixed the leak. My bill came to $245.00. A far cry from $800.00.

Not cost effective to turn rotors

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 04, 2006

Brand new, they are thin. If there was a problem with them at 29K miles, it was probably due to warpage. you cannot machine warpage out of a rotor.

Replacing them is just more cost effective.

You still got ripped off

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

Why did they replace the rotors on a car with 29000 miles? They didn't need replacing. The whole brake job should've been about a $100.00. The rotors should've been turned, not replaced, and pads.

Tire repair is $20.00.

You did the right thing when something didn't smell right. Hopefully other people read this post, and will be more cautious when they take there cars in for repairs.
