I joined Melaleuca in November of 2000, I found an ad posted by Kristie Jones of The Mom Team. Moms ~ you can stay home with your children and earn a replacement or supplemental income. blah blah blah ~ Work hard for 40 years or smart for 4? Well being a Mother of 3 who really hated to have to drop her children off at daycare everyday ~ I requested more information.

Kristie called me and presented the opportunity (this was before the live conference calls were ever in place). Join as a preferred customer (order 35 base points every month) and "introduce" other customers and you will earn 7% commission off what they purchase every month. (She neglected to tell me that this is actually 7% commission off of the base point order ~ difference being about $1.05 per customer per month.)

Ok so you introduce at least 8 preferred customers and you advance to Director and start earning 10% commission off of their monthly order. (So she tells me the average order is around $50 per month so 14% of that is $7 per person. Again it is 14% of the base point order ~ so 14% of 35 base points is $4.90.) So far so good, sounds easy enough. Just switch where you shop, introduce other people to the "catalog shopping company" and you can replace your income.

She also promised that I would never have to make calls on my own until I was absolutely ready ~ but guess what? She was never available to make calls with me so I was forced to make them myself ~ if I wanted to enroll customers and make any money. Well you can imagine how that went ~ brand new to the company and not able to answer most of the questions. There is always excuses from my upline about helping us ~ I AM NOT THE ONLY one! Many, many people are left as orphans in this team.

I WAS PROMISED TEAMWORK AND SUPPORT! Yeah, right. It is NOT that easy. Imagine my surprise when my first check was only around $8.00. Don't get me wrong I was proud of that check! I was on my way. Three months later I finally hit Director and my check was around $200. (Also, when you advance to Director your base point order has to be 75 base points a month which is over $120 every single month. But I am still making money right??) Not bad!

My next mission was to have one of my customers to become a Director and then I advance to Director II ~ and then I can earn more money because I get a "bonus check" for my leadership skills. So I run up my phone bill to an outrageous amount (this was before unlimited flat rate long distance). I finally have one of my girls hit Director and I advance. Well bonus checks are not all they are cracked up to be. My Check went to $400! Wow! But it included my one time advancement bonus of $100.

So go out and repeat that and have another customer reach Director and then I would advance to Director III. Well as time went on it was harder and harder to "convince" people that this was for them. I was not working part time ~ I was working ALL the time (another misleading phrase in the original presentation ~ work part time and replace your income.) Well I working 40+ hours a week ~ ask anyone that has heard a presentation and you will know that they tell you it can be worked part time. WELL NOT IF YOU WANT TO MAKE ANY MONEY!

So I finally advance to Director III, well wait a minute ~ one of the customers cancelled so my customer advanced for a minute. I never received my advancement bonus for that because you have to maintain the status for a certain amount of time ~ 90 days.

Another misconception or flat out lie is that you can make this business work with free advertising on the internet! Yeah right, how many Mom Team ads did you have to compete with?

I still was a true believer of Melaleuca ~ and everyone in my upline was succeeding. Right? My husband was really sick in 2002 so I really wasn't able to work the business. I still received a check every month of around $200. Well my husband went on temporary leave, my phone was shut off because I couldn't pay the outrageous bill I had racked up. But Melaleuca was the one for me! I just knew it.

In November of 2002 I started working hard at the business again, recruiting people ~ More like selling. You don't actually sell the product but you do have to sell the business, you have to "not tell the whole truth" (like the money you end up spending to get "quality" leads, money for the phone bill, money for the internet service, money for the products!) to get people to enroll. Like better, safer, healthier products. The ingredients almost look the same to me as the store bought brand. But I still was a believer.

So I started enrolling customers again and still could not advance in status ~ at this time Stayin Home and Lovin it branched off of The MOM Team. Alright, so we had new websites to promote ~ we could advertise for free! yeah right!

My checks were now $800 plus a month, a far cry from replacing my income ~ and I was enrolling people but the attrition rate is so high that it is hard to advance to anything. They say Melaleuca has a 95% reorder rate but that is because people like me who work the business have to place an order to get paid.

I was still at Director II and found that I could not tell the lies anymore, I could not ethically tell people that they could work this business part time and for free and replace or supplement their income. This team and the MOM Team prey on working Mothers and stay at home Moms who really want to do what is right for their families. They target these Moms and mislead these people.

**Here are sample ads from the team room on Stayin Home and Lovin It:

"Not get rich Quick. But Legit."

"Work with a company that makes a difference in our world. Someone we can be proud of and enjoy working with. Have a team to help, train and guide you to success. We are the Team, the team that cares about you."
~Stayin Home and Lovin It!

"I am a mom of 2 girls and was looking for something I could believe in. I found it. I am proud of who I work with, and what they do. And even better, I get to work from home the way I want to, with my kids by my side. No selling, stocking or delivering products and we don't have to run around chasing people. Let me share with you what is changing my life."

"Stayin' Home and Lovin' It" is a support team that provides free websites and training to women who want to enhance their lives by partnering with a premier wellness company and work from home."

I was mislead by all the "hype" the present to us. And team work that is promised is basically non existent. My Father passed away this past September and I had to take off so my customers that were actively working the business went to my upline for support and guess what??? THEY DIDN'T receive any! So what happened? I lost around 5 or 6 customers. All they brag about on their live presentations is teamwork, teamwork, teamwork. You have all the tools you need to succeed. Well once you enroll ~ good luck to ya! Follow the step by step training and you can do it! IT IS A BIG RECRUITING GAME!

I was mislead, deceived, fraudently made to believe that you can succeed with little to nothing out of pocket. They played on my most precious assets (my children) I feel like I had a verbal contract with this team but I was the only one who cared about the people I actually introduced to the company and team. Melaleuca has approved these online teams so are they not responsible for the actions of "leaders" of these so called teams??

Stayin Home and Lovin It also has a "Right Start Training" call that basically brainwashed you into believing that every product we buy from the store will cause you to get cancer, add, adhd, and any other illness you can think of. It is a major scare tactic for Mother's especially. They are not just misleading but flat out lying about Melaleuca's products being safer and healthier.

**Here is what the products say: Melaleuca formulas as read on the labels.

Pre-Spot Plus:
"A Proprietary Formula Containing: Surfactants: (these are wetting agents and since the type/s aren't listed could be anything, even ammonia) Enzymes: (two commonly used both from animal enzymes such as hog pancreas)Melaleuca oil Frangrance and Colorant."

"CAUTION: Eye irritant. Keep out of reach of children. In case of eye contact, flush with plenty of water. Call physician if irritation persits. If swallowed, drink water and call a physician or local poison control center....etc"

Mela Brite: (exact same formula although the mix of ingredients may vary)"A Proprietary Formula Containing: Surfactants, Enzymes, Melaleuca oil, Frangrance and Colorant."

"CAUTION: Eye irritant. Keep out of reach of children. Prolonged contact may cause skin irritation. In case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes. Call physician if irritation persits. If swallowed, drink water and call a physician or local poison control center. Rinse hands after use...etc"

Sol-u-guard:
Active ingredients:
n-Alkyl (c14 50%, c12 40% c16 10%): (this is not a complete formula but is a strong alcohol derivative of synthetic fatty acids in alcohol) Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride 1.875%: Dimethyl benzul ammonium chloride 1.248%: (these are both ammonium salts that can cause vomiting, nausea etc if ingested.
Inert Ingredients 96.877%(this means that 96% of this formula is probably water or some other unnammed ingredient, I would want to know what it is)

Precautionary statements:
Hazardous to humans and domestic animals.

Warning:
Causes skin and eye irritation. Avoid contact with eye, skin, and clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling.

Moistursil Bath Oil:
Contains hydrogenated Polyisobutene (a plasticizer/petroleum oil ingredient used in lubricating oils, adhesives, etc. Cetyl acetate and Acetylated Lanolin Alcohol: (acetate is a common ingredient in this type of formula and lanolin is derrived from sheep oil glands and some people are very allergic to it. PEG 8 Dilauate, T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil, Lanolin Oil, Squalane(is made from various sources and a good lubricating oil)

Caution:
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children.

(The second ingredients are Petrolateum and synthetic wax. There are a lot of people who are allergic to wheat germ oil and it has no real value to the skin. The entire formula is made up of waxes and ingredients that make them soft) It would we a waste of money unless you wanted to polish your furniture with it.)

Melagel:
T36 C5 Melaleuca Oil, petrolium and synthetic wax, wheat germ oil, cocoa butter, stearic acid, beeswax, ozokerite, glyceryl stearate & PEG 100 stearate, stearath-2, stearath-21, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), retinyl palmitate (Vitamin A) & cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) and Corn oil.

When I first started we were taught to use the term non-toxic but now we are not allowed to say that ~ only non caustic.

This team has no integrity ~ they stoop to any level to introduce new customers. The whole time I have been a customer and a member of this team ~ no one takes responsiblity! Not for the lies and misconceptions that lead us Mothers to believe that we can succeed in this business.

Misinformed About Label

AUTHOR: StrangerThanFiction - ()

POSTED: Friday, April 26, 2013

I'm not sure where you're getting your ingredients list for ANY of the products you mentioned. Some how & some way you were misinformed.
Some examples of the ACTUAL ingredient Label

Ie* Sol U Guard: Citric Acid, detergent, solvent, thyme oil

Most of the ingredients on the household cleaners are a list of five or less ingredients. Which is impressive in & of itself. How many ingredients are listed on any Procter & Gamble or Johnson & Johnson products? Oh wait... they Don't list them. lol

I'm sorry you and some other people had a negative experience, but accuracy in information & truth are always welcomed.

One person mentioned they "lost" their residual income after not working for a while. Well, that'd be the non MLM part. If your enrolled customers keep working & advance to a higher level (while you don't) you can "lose" income, but if you 'work' at McDonald's & never show up you will "lose" income the same way. You do have to work to make money, but it's not hard. You tell people about your favorite ice cream shop or restaurant all the time, now you're just telling them about a store. A store where you save 30-55% off your purchases without clipping coupons, &&& they find coupons & add them for you so you save additional money.

Melaleuca isn't for everyone just like Ruth's Chris & Whole Foods/Central Market isn't for everyone. We're not mad if people choose McDonanld's & WalMart, we're just showing people a better, less expensive & healthier way to live. They can choose what they do with the information.

Facts...

AUTHOR: tony4wellness - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 31, 2012

First of All, the backup order plan from Melaleuca works, if and only if you fail to order your 35 product point commitment does it come into play, this is explained during the presentation and should have been explained by the person who invited you as I do. It is better than Auto Ship Programs with other company out there, wherein the same products each and every month is shipped because all they have to offer is a limited number of products. I have heard 'It's HARD to cancel", NOT TRUE! If you decide to cancel your membership, it's really easy to do. All you do is print a cancelation form and fax in your request, why fax?, because of your legal signature, simple! If faxed on or before the 25th of the month, account is canceled for current month and if after the 25th, it will be for the following month. With Melaleuca, There are more than 350 consumable products to choose from. So, Auto Ship Program dont work. As far as the 35 points commitment to get products at wholesale is nothing, just switch stores do your shopping at Melaleuca. I have NOT ordered lesser than 64 points each and every month that I have been with them. Second, like Amazon,  Ebay or any other sites that do business except for companies that issues RMA (electronics), shipping and handling are services rendered or when you return products, you pay. The question is, when you have used up your vitamins for 90 days and decide that they dont work or didnt FEEL any improvement or energy, can you return them? With Melaleuca, YES, up to 90 days warranty, no questions asked. Third, I paid $29.- to join Melaleuca for the promise of non-chemical base products and it did make my family healthier with Natural based products, in fact my grandson who had asthma for 6yrs. was healed just by using their detergent, as per me, for the past 4 yrs, my oncologist or cancer doctor has blood test after blood test done on me because I might have Leukemia or cancer of the blood. And after taking their Vitamins for 4 months, I cried when they told me my white cell count went down to normal to everybody's amazement. Tell me, What price do you put on your HEALTH?   Added to that, the revenue sharing program has helped me, I made over 20K last year,  just for telling people about products that are GREAT and this all happened for a $29 investment, call me crazy, if you calculate even if you spend $70 or 35 points for a year that's only $840 for a year for products that my family uses yearly, CHEAP, and this is not even part of cost of doing business, we came out way ahead. And even if, I didnt make money, just with the deduction I had on my schedule C, because I did signed up also to become an Independent Marketing Executive with them and it was worth it. Listen really hard for those don't have any deductions. Value of products was my main concern; addition income was a pleasant surprise". I'm sorry, I have not made my first Million Dollar yet on Melaleuca but I'm already a big big Winner when it comes to good health for my family and myself, that is KING to me!  I welcome any questions about Melaleuca, their products or even the research I have done, which are now a part of me and my family now as a Blessing'. Call me at 408-771-0296.. God Bless!

Melaleuca is a great company!

AUTHOR: Total Wellness - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, January 20, 2012

Dear Valerie:

I am sorry Melaleuca did not work for you. I have been marketing for this company for 20 years and even though I do not have kids (I have 5 dogs, 3 cats and getting two horses in the Spring) and my husband and I have had great success. We work very closely with our new customers. Have been since 1991 for my husband and 1992 for me unless, someone says they just want to be a customer.

These are great products.  Cheaper and safer than Procter and Gamble. There is NO childproof caps so much better than the grocery store brands. Our children's products have no novacaine, dioxane or formaldahyde which you will find in Johnson and Johnson, Baby Magic and other grocery store brands.

If you have residual income of $500 a month coming in (we can help you do that) you would have to have $500,000 sitting in the  bank. They have reformulated the laundry detergent so it is 6 times more concentrated, the SOluguard Botanical is now EPA approved and we have material safety Data listings for this and all of our products are safe around kids and pets. We have to have labeling in accordance with the FDA so people will not purposely swallow these products but if you look up Poison Control, you will not find any reports of poisoning. Procter and Gamble has poisonings everyday (Joy and Dawn, Mr. Clean, 409, Ajax, etc.) If you ever want to give it a try again, my husband and I are in the top 1% and we make residual income of $16,000 a month ($3.2 MIllion) in 20 years and would be happy to help you achieve your goals. Our company just hit $1 BIllion and we are doing well and we would love to have you on our team.  We live in Princeton, Idaho.

New to Melaleuca

AUTHOR: RJ - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, January 06, 2012

I only recently signed up (& not because of my enroller presentation, I wanted to try the products after my own research after I finally got the name of the company...I really do not like those who are secretive about who they work for.) ... I really believe that a bad enroller, not necessarily a bad person, can really damage the reputation with several people for a company) .. I chose to ignore the red flag waving in front of my face when my enroller talked or wrote anything to me because I prefer to do my own research on the actual company, and I wanted to hopefully find a good company and product that I could use first, and possibly make a little money promoting it second without costing me money. I have an enroller that literally brought me crashing down from a natural high I was having one day because I was having a really good day (unrelated to melaleuca) ... I really love the products that I have used from Melaleuca so far, and I know that I can't blame them for the actions of one of their independent business people. I plan on writing her a letter when I can this weekend to let her know how EXTREMELY unhappy I am with her with reasons... but I know I cannot do it until I take time to calm down and really think about the situation and how it affected me. I am going to contact the company to find out my options to venture on my own because I no longer wish to have any contact with her, nor do the few customers I have (one of which is wanting to also build a business, and is already angry with her) I love the products that I have used, and I hope to be able to have success with them... But I agree with many, that a bad enroller can give this company a bad rep with many people. My suggestion is to sign up first and foremost only as a customer to try the product out. You can only succeed if you truly believe in what you are selling... Especially if you have a conscience. Thank you for letting me vent a little.

sorry to hear

AUTHOR: Pat - (Ireland)

POSTED: Sunday, July 03, 2011

For long time I worked with some sponsors that I wasnt happy or it was hard to make money.

One thing I dont see in your report is any postive feedback about the products, as its important
to use them first then build a business.

But one thing I do see here about melaeuca is the cautions label shown

example eye irritant do not use etc etc

Would you put lemon juice in your eye ??????????

No because it would irritate your eye...obviously.

Would you need to call the poison control center or rush to the hospital...nope.

But you can clean with it.

I am new to the business and use the products, I love them because I cannot use any products
with chemicals, I very very sensitive, these products agree with me and I love the shaving gel, I just cannot use store brands with chemicals or I break out in rashes, I cannot use toothpaste or mouthwashes, but melaleuca its fine.

I think you were doing well with Melaleuca just didnt happen with your sponsor.

Its very frustrating not having a good sponsor, I have a great one now.

And I look after my team.

Hope you find something good with good sponsor, I actually think you were doing well

Best wishes

You see if this happened me after a few uses I wouldnt use again, so why would you continue to use the product for 4 years knowing it turned grey,

Stayin' Home & Lovin' It is a FANTASTIC team!

AUTHOR: Emk808 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 16, 2009

I've been part of the SHALI team for several years, and I've always had the support of the rest of the team when I needed it. I love the products, and they ARE much safer and cause less allergic reactions than the alternative. There are also no toxic fumes which can make you sick as well. It's not a scam by any stretch of the imagination, there is no lying during presentations, and I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience. Besides, if you're going to buy cleaning products, tooth paste, shampoo, soap, etc. at a grocery store anyway, why not get it from here where it is safer, better for you and gives you the opportunity to make money? So what if you need 35 product points every month...I spend that in vitamins alone that I would be getting regardless.

SOUNDS A LOT LIKE A PYRAMID SCHEME TO ME

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 13, 2009

WORK AT HOME -- ALMOST ALL OF THESE ARE FRAUDS INCLUDING WORK AT HOME EMPLOYMENT, WORK FROM YOUR HOME, IF YOU HAVE A COMPUTER AT HOME YOU CAN WORK FROM HOME, WORK AT HOME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, HOME-BASED BUSINESS, OPPORTUNITIES TO WORK FROM HOME....

I THINK YOU SEE WHERE I AM GOING WITH THIS.

IF YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM UP FRONT, THAT IS A RED FLAG. EMPLOYERS PAY ME TO WORK FOR THEM , I DON'T PAY THEM!

IF YOU ARE PAID FOR RECRUITING OTHERS INSTEAD OF FOR THE WORK YOU DO, SOUNDS LIKE A PYRAMID SCHEME TO ME AND THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT WORK IS TO KEEP GETTING IN NEW RECRUITS --- LIKE BERNARD MADOFF.

I DO NOT LIKE THE WAY THIS "ENTERPRISE" SOUNDED BASED ON WHAT YOU TOLD ME.

AM I SAYING THAT ALL HOME-BASED BUSINESSES ARE CROOKED?

NO BUT DO YOU THINK I AM GOING TO WASTE MY TIME AND MY MONEY TO FIND OUT?

NO,NO AND NO AGAIN!

The MOM Team

AUTHOR: Indiana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 13, 2009

I do not have a problem with Melaleuca or the products. What I do have a problem with is my enroller. I was promised that she would help me every step of the way....BIG FAT LIE! I was promised a support team.....BIG FAT LIE! I was promised a free website....BIG FAT PARTIAL LIE! I was promised that advertising for free online would pay off...BIG FAT LIE! I was told that I could go to someone else in the team to get help...YEAH RIGHT! When I asked for help else where I was told that my enroller was a great member of the leadership team and that I needed to go back to her and schedule a time for more training. More training???? I was never trained in the first place. Every experience that I have had with the mom team has been a false-hood and a lie. After a few months in the business, I spent several thounsands of dollars on products and advertising...and for what?? Two checks that totaled less than $5 dollars. I was told that I was to do nothing by myself, yet every time I called or emailed my enroller it would take her 4 days or more to get back with me....that is if she bothered at all. The MOM Team is a SCAM...I feel that the team needs to be taught a lesson, and what better way than to do that than a class action lawsuite?

It's Not Melaleuca The Wellness Company-It's Your Enroller

AUTHOR: Punky - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 20, 2008

I joined Melelauca in 2001 and have nothing bad to say about the company or its products. I believe your problem lies with your enroller, one of who sounds like someone who was just looking at dollars and cents. Your enroller did you no justice in not telling you all you needed to know as far as the company's products and policies as well what it takes to build a business. It's not easy and yes it does take work. I take it personally when I hear of all the wrong doings of some people who promote this great company by not doing what they should do to get an enrollment.

Please don't blame the company as it is a great company with great products. Its the various web sites of marketing executives as well as the marketing executives themselves promoting the company that are giving Melaleuca a bad rap. There are thousands of us in the company who know how to bring people in the right way and treat their customers and business partners like family. You just got tangled up with the wrong person. I wish you well in building your Melaleuca Business!

Meleuca : The Wellness Company... Is not about the company, it's about YOU!

AUTHOR: Thewellnesscompanydotorg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 01, 2008

Just wanted to add that Melaleuca is an $800,000,000.00 solid company. My first two experieces as Marketing Executive I had an experience similar to this person. I used to blame others for my failures (which I know see as learning experiences).

You have to realize that it is NOT the company, IT IS ALL YOU.

It was not until I found that the secret to signing up people into Melaleuca online was simply to show them how to get paid to be a leader. That is accomplished by offering a generic introduction to the Consumer Direct Marketing and Network Marketing industries as well as to show how to get prospects to pay you before they even become Marketing Executives.

Even Oprah has called us and we simply send everyone to free Network Marketing Training videos. They are funding our physical businesses. We've made 30K in three days, that without even one call from our upline.

Check it out and then you will forget about blaming the World for your lack of knowledge about the truth behind Melaleuca, MLM, and Network Marketing in general.

Great Support

AUTHOR: Janice - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 31, 2007

I have a background in healthcare so that helps me make decisions on nutritionals... I joined Melaleuca a month ago. One family member joined the last day of the month with no work from me and I received a check for $10. This month I will have eight referrals througgh me. I estimate $500 including advancement bonus of $200 plus a 27 inch Sharp flat screen TV if everyone stays enrolled. I do not need the TV but I am sure I can figure how to sell that if nobody in my family wants it. I am doing well for one month. I decided to work part time (twenty hours in my typicalJOB and twenty at this). My goal is to have Melaleuca pay for my car (as a senior director). What I have learned is that there are good teams and very bad ones. I was lucky to have met with the best team. AND I would never pay for leads. Good luck finding a better team!

To be honest, I thought this posting had been removed. These comments were made in haste and I wish I would have never made them. I requested that my posting be removed just days after I made it - obviously it is still here.
I was convinced that it was Melaleuca that was in the wrong when really it was me - I did not work hard enough to make my business work and now looking back wish that I would have stayed in. There are so many successful stay-at-home moms with Stayin Home and Lovin It, The MOM Team and Melaleuca. They are dedicated, hard working women who share their success on a daily basis and I just wish that I had stood strong.
Kristie Jones was never at fault, I was. I was not ready to be a business owner or a leader.

Compensation Plan

AUTHOR: Deana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 18, 2006

The compensation plan for Melaleuca's marketing executives is very lucrative. It is lucrative for those who work at it. The residual income comes from the commission you earn off of your organization's monthly shopping for the things that their families need. If you want your residual income to grow, you must continue to introduce people to this FABULOUS company and help them open their own wholesale accounts. If you are motivated, dedicated, & following the business plan on a consistent basis, your business will grow. With that, you will be earning leadership points and the associated bonuses to your monthly checks. If someone's check drops dramatically, it is because they are not actively working the business. The business plan & compensation plan are very clearly explained & detailed in your business kit. If there is a section of either of the plans that you need clarification on, business development is always ready to help answer your question. Again, for dedicated, motivated people who believe in the products, the compensation plan with this business is UNMATCHED!

Total Agreement

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 15, 2006

I think it's great that people are finally starting to WAKE UP to the truths about Melaleuca and the numerous "mom" marketing teams on the internet today.

I am a former Mom-Teamer. I signed up in 2001, desperate to close my home-based childcare biz and stay home with my baby I was expecting.
As a young, 21-year-old mother-to-be, I totally fell for the "non-toxic product" thing and decided to try it. Building the business did not come easily and as I begged for help from successful leaders, they never really gave me any true help or good advice. It was as if they had a secret to their success and they weren't about to give it up. It took me a year to finally enroll my 8th customer. I became an instant DII and then advanced to DIII and then DIV. The ONLY reason I made good money was because my enroller accidentally placed a huge business builder in my front line, and I was making sometimes $3-4k a month. It was wonderful.

Then came the SCAM! There was and still is NO residual income with Melaleuca. They claim there is, but then there is the little ditty about leadership points. I went through some tough months where I was unable to enroll anyone and didn't earn any leadership points. Because of the lack of points, Melaleuca cut my pay. They were still making all the bucks off my biz, but weren't paying it back out to me. This continued and I was never able to recover my losses. Eventually I lost my whole check and the income which allowed me to stay at home with my kids. What kind of family-friendly company would guzzle the money you were earning them and not return it just because you didn't earn "enough" points?

While Melaleuca does have some great products, they are NOT non-toxic. Yes, that is right. Mela people like to argue this and also like to encourage people to do research. I wish I had done this myself. I feel I was misled about Melaleuca's products, income potential, workload, and integrity. For the longest time, I was so frightened of any other products, I didn't want my child to be at my in-laws home because my husband's mom used Pine-Sol! Needless to say, my children are fine, but the hysteria I was taught was real and I see so many members who feel that way.

These mom teamers prey on desperate moms, like myself, who would do almost anything to be home with their children and provide a safer home. They candy coat the opportunity, making it seem super easy, when in reality, it's terribly difficult and over saturated. Once you are in, they strongly encourage you to convert your home and preach the good news of Melaleuca to everyone. They indoctrinate members on "miracle" product stories. Of course no one ever hears the stories about products that didn't work (like how my laundry always turned gray the 4 years I used MelaPower or the asthma attack Tub N Tile gave me) They claim that it is just replacing your products with stuff you already buy. I was spending $160 a month (including shipping) just to meet BP requirement and wasn't using half of the products! Then they encourage you to purchase leads and call them daily to get them on a presentation call. We were not allowed to tell them we were with Melaleuca. (What's the secret? I don't know of any other MLM that has that level of secrecy!)If you want to have integrity, then an investigator should know and be told right away what company the opportunity is with.

So there I was, spending upwards of $400 a month on leads, products I didn't need, and other services. I was told this was low-cost.
Another thing we were constantly brainwashed with was the fact that Melaleuca is not an MLM.
Uh, yea it is. It's a different kind of MLM with a unique concept, but I felt deceptive when I was trying to rope a new mom into joining. And yes we do sell, we sell the membership for our personal gain.

Another thing that was dirty, was some of the business practices of other moms. They cheated the system, harassed members, and lied their way all the way to the top. I am targeting a specific person I had the unfortunate experience of having in my organization. Yet, even though her business should have been taken away from her by Melaleuca's own rules, she hardly received a slap on the hand and was allowed to continue. All because her business was so large and lucrative, the company didn't want to lose the profits.

Ultimatley, I found that the MomTeam was a group of well-meaning and kind women who were misinformed. Or at least some were. I found that when I left, suddenly, these "friends" never spoke with me again, even though I left because Melaleuca had robbed my family and I of everything and I had to work a retail job just to make money to put food on the table.
Friends indeed! Then I got the lectures and the "how could you live without the products?"
Wow! Amazing the brainwashing that I was under.
Leaving Melaleuca felt like leaving a cult. Suddenly I enjoyed true shopping freedom. I explored other brands and found them to be a better value. I found products that actually work just as well at a cheaper cost. So, I can and will live without the products, without the drama, without the hype, the billions of hours I spent on the phone all day instead of spending time with my kids, the boxes of products I didn't need, and the list goes on.

I could continue all night, but there are some important things and fact to remember:

1. Like everyone else says, be informed. Understand completely all about your obligations and the real payout. It is not a true residual income, there are strings attached. If you are cool with that, then by all means, sign up.

2. Know that the products are not non-toxic. Yes, some are excellent, some are cheaper, and most all use some natural ingredients, they are not certified non-toxic. Mom groups abuse that information and it is important to be informed.
If you want true non-toxic products that work well and are decently priced, try Seventh Generation brand (grocery stores) or BabyGanics(Babies R Us)No, I don't work for those companies, but I do think they deserve a mentioning. Wish I knew about them before Melaleuca.

3. Know what you have to do to really be successful. Most of the people at the top had to do a lot of wheeling and dealing to get there.
They invest a lot of money into their businesses, so if you think you can do it easily for free, think again. Most teams strongly encourage the purchase of leads which are costly and yield little results, not to mention it is so much like cold calling. If you don't like phone work, then run and hide!

4. Know that to get to the top and make your full payout, you have to constantly enroll people to earn leadership points. You are required to earn more points the higher the level you are with the company. If you don't have the points, you won't get paid all the money you deserve, but Melaleuca will still make all the money. This is un-ethical and there are many other companies who are against this.

5. Know that with every mom you enroll, you will be initiating her into this way of life called Melaleuca. It's like a totally different way of living. Some love it and that is why they stay. For others, it's not for them. Make sure you will feel comfortable subjecting other moms to this.

6. Melaleuca is not a perfect company and it doesn't always play fair. The people who really benefit are the ones at the top, like so many other corporations. It may enhance some people's lives, but it doesn't for everyone. It nearly ruined mine, just because I had some slow months in business. And yes, I fully understood everything about Melaleuca.

Looking back, I am glad I have left this way of life and can finally see the truths of Melaleuca.
I hope that other people will know that having a MLM business is not easy. It is a hard way of life that requires a great amount of time, money, and dedication. It just wasn't for me and I wasn't about to entangle one more mom into the same trap and give her false hope. Melaleuca is commonly misrepresented and people need to know the real truth before joining.

Great Experience

AUTHOR: Jen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 29, 2006

I am so sorry that some people have had a bad experiece with a moms group that works with Melaleuca. Personally, I got hooked up with a great group and I am making excellent money only working 3-4 hours per day. I never spend money on ads or leads, I get all of my customers with free ads, flyers, leaving business cards around, word of mouth. I never lie about anything and am NEVER encouraged to do so by anyone on my team. Unfortunately, some people sometimes get involved with the wrong people and that is a shame that it puts a bad light on a whole company! I can also say that 2 of my kids with Asthma have actually stopped taking some of their medications since I switched to some of these more natural products. Not a lie, this is true for me, and it might not be for others!! Any business can be a success with the right group of support and the right amount of enthusiasm. For the same point, any business can be a failure with the wrong people. I hate to see an entire company getting bashed because of some people not doing things morally.

This business is making alot of women very happy, paying bills, paying off debt, planning a future, while still being home with kids. I have 4 daughters, I home school, we have sports every night of the week, and I still make great money!! I think if we keep our family first, and be honest about what we are doing with our business, and get involved with a great support group - we can be successful at any business we choose!!!!!!

I have heard this before.

AUTHOR: Tracey - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 18, 2006

I have heard so much of this before and it is so sad. I am a work at home mom to two little ones and I am in the nutrition/wellness industry.

My advice is RESEARCH who you sign up with. Don't just sign up with the person who first contacts you. YOU contact several people when signing up for a company like this.

You have to be comfortable with your Sponsor. ASK tons of questions and ask again.

MLM is GREAT but only if you have a good Sponsor.

Now, I have heard a lot about SHALI/MOM Team, mostly bad. Mostly bad on the "person" side, not the products side. Also, there are so many of these ads everywhere, hard to compete.

Also in clicking on their ads, they don't even say WHAT they sell, which is aggravating, and to me personlly seems misleading. I want to know upfront, not wait for a phone call. I want to do the research myself, but how can you when they don't even talk abotu their products on these sites, only the business opportunity?

Okay so my point, just do your research before you get into a company like this. Research the bus. opp, the products, everything!

Mom Team Scam

AUTHOR: Christine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 28, 2006

I'll admit... SOME of the products are good... others are not. Of course this is true with any company. I just have some personal experiences to share. I had joined the MOM team under the preface that these were the best products ever and, heck, why not make some money too. I was sort of dragging my feet with the biz end and my "enroller" kept on my back. Then I decided to "google" the mom team and found some rather unsavory information.

It was almost as if there was a script to handle this sort of thing when I approached her with it. It is very "cultish" and you are nothing when you are on the bottom of the food chain. You are being taught to spam, message boards are bombarded with MOM team ads. When I tried to cancel my "contract" they were less then nice. It was as if I was personally taking money out of their pockets. And know this...if you are in it...so is your spouse. There was a director kicked out because her hubby started his own business. She had really nice checks coming in and they just ripped them away. My advice is this... do EXTENSIVE research before you venture into any MLM, know what you are getting into. Again...this is MY experience with the MOM team and Melaleuca.

Getting Something For Nothing

AUTHOR: Angie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 27, 2006

I first want to suggest to those concerned, call The Poison Control Center and ask them how many serious injuries have been reported on any Melaleuca product, how serious it was, what was the outcome etc etc. The results are very pleasing. As far as the telephone presentation for Melaleuca being a "scare tactic", I strongly disagree! Do you realize there are actually people out here that believe others deserve to, at the minimum, be aware of harmful chemicals and toxins in the products we use. Simple as that.

Being a mother of 4 children and never having any incidents with any of my children getting into any household cleaners UNTIL my 4th, I am VERY thanksful it was Melaleuca's products that is occured with. My (then) 3yr old got ahold of our bottle of PRESPOT and d****ed my (then) one year old in the face with about 3/4 of the entire new bottle. Immediate reaction was to panic and rinse his face. As I grabbed a towel and headed to the sink I noticed he had stopped crying. I took a wash cloth and wiped his face and eyes. His eyes were a noticably red, just as they would be if he opened his eyes under water, but other than the redness he was completely fine. No irritated skin, no damage to his eyes, NOTHING. When we called poison control they specifically said, "Be thankful it wasn't spray n wash". So as far as the warnings, yes, it must be in place as an eye irritant BUT most everything (even water) will irritate the eyes. Also know that prior to Melaleuca, one morning my daughter was getting ready for school. As she got out of the shower she was complaining of her neck and face burning. She has this awful awful red rash all over her cheeks, ears, neck etc. I immediately got her into the doctor and after checking he stated that it was a chemical rash most likely due to a shampoo or soap or laundry detergent she had come into contact with. IMAGINE THAT???? Since we had not changed anything other than the shampoo (which at the current time was a generic WalMart kind) we narrowed it to that. Since Melaleuca she has NEVER been CHEMICALLY affected again. :-)

As far as the business goes, it seems as though many many people these days want to make something for nothing. They want the money, but don't want to work for it. You can be successfull with Melaleuca. And you can be successful working PART TIME. It is about choices, what you are willing to apply yourself and your energy to. It is about taking responsibility for your own actions. Generally people that don't make it in Melaleuca are the people that quit. The people that don't really want to work. Now I am not saying this is the case with all the unsuccessful. But it is with the majority.

As far as the required 35 product points (75 for Directors and above). Honestly people! Where are your ethics???? If you weren't using the products faithfully, if you didn't believe in the quality of the products, how in the world could you ethically refer others to them? I have NEVER purchased less than 80 product points in any given month. Not even my first or second month! And, this was not because I had to, but because I shop for my families needs from Melaleuca rather than the grocery (or walmart type) store. I don't buy things from Melaleuca because I have to. I buy because we need them and I choose to buy from them.

I Do have a Melaleuca business because I feel strongly about the products that have brought so much to my family. I feel strongly about the ethics of the company. (Recently awarded by the BBB!) I feel strongly about sharing this gold egg with everyone who sees the value!

I am sorry for those of you who have had a negative experience. I, by the way, have NEVER lied about anything regarding Melaleuca, in business or social surroundings. I have NEVER been taught to, asked to or encouraged to. In fact, we are taught, "THE TRUTH IS GOOD ENOUGH!". Sorry it didn't work out for some of you.

Not so fast... MLM can be an extremely difficult way to make any money - let alone make a profit.

AUTHOR: R - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 07, 2006

The fact that you are required to have a standing order for products in order to sell the stuff profitably is a tip-off.

Some people swear by it, talk about "working smart, not hard", and replacing 40 hours of work with 4. They are usually the ones just starting out, trying to sell you on an "opportunity," or trying to convince themselves that the business is still worth plugging away at. Several years ago, the Wisconsin Attorney General did a study of tax returns of the state's 20,000+ Amway sellers. On average, the "profit" was -$9,000 - in other words, they LOST an average of $9,000 that year by "working the business."

Incidentally, one poster recommended writing off the phone bill on one's taxes. It's not that easy and you can run afoul of the IRS, which is very aware of MLM and the high failure rates. If one's "business" doesn't turn a profit within a couple of years, the IRS may deem it a hobby, and therefore not permit tax write-offs related to it. There have been many lawsuits in which judges have ruled that Amway distributors operating in the red for a few years and continuing to do business the same way in spite of that ceased to be engaged in a viable business and were involved in a hobby (a masochistic one.)

While I cited Amway and not Melaleuca (I've never been involved in either) I think it applies. My best advice is this - there is an excellent newsgroup on Yahoo regarding MLM, the name of which I've forgotten. If you go to Yahoo Groups and search the terms Melaleuca +MLM, you should find it. Thousands of people have shared their personal experiences with all kinds of MLMs, and it's very instructive.

Good luck.
PS: To the person who states that the reason Melaleuca has warnings and cautions on their labels has nothing to do with the ingredients, which are all "safe"; you're wrong. Warnings and cautions are required by law when certain harmful chemicals are present. The warnings are not there 'just because it's a cleaning product.' Take them as seriously as you would if you found them on Clorox or Comet or Windex or Lysol etc. If the product was harmless, instead of a warning, you'd see the same space taken up by a couple of paragraphs assuring exactly how safe it is over the competition and touting product superiority. But you don't.

Stayin' Home and Lovin' It! that's for sure...

POSTED: Saturday, December 03, 2005

I am a mom of a precious baby boy, and from the day we found out I was pregnant, my husband and I decided that I'd stay home with him and not return to work as a Tele-Service agent. With Loren at two months old, and my husband working his tail off to keep our finances straight, I was determined to find a way to help. Whether it be finding an employer that could put my talents to use or something self employed. Now, not only while taking care of my little boy, and helping my husband pay the bills, I found a company that enhanced the way we live our lives. There's no selling, stocking, delivering products which means no chasing people around! Melaleuca's products have improved my home and lives. I have so many product experiences to share! Yes, it may not pay off right away, and you are sort of obligated to buy their products, but it is soooo worth it. I mean, how would you work for a company and talk about their products if you have never used them? The easiest way to do the job is to KNOW THE PRODUCTS!!! And to the person that had a problem with their mentor... maybe you should have contacted someone else on the team. It doesn't have to be JUST your mentor that you're in contact with. It's called a team for a reason. And if you would have been thinking, since it is a HOME BUSINESS... you could have WROTE OFF the things you bought for the business (except the products)... especially the PHONE BILL! I do admit, their products get spendy... but I love all of them! I guess i'm just "Stayin' Home and Lovin' It!"...

I have felt alone, but have alway, ALWAYS been able to find someone in this company to help. There are also many people in this company making 6 figure incomes who built their biz face to face, NO BUYING LEADS! It does take HARD WORK, and DEDICATION to make this business work, but in the end what you earn is truly up to you. I would be very happy as a customer, but that they allow me the opportunity to earn a residual income is a plus. It is hard if you do not have an attentive mentor, but there is a great support team out there. I am sorry for your experience.

I am a current Mom team member. i love the products. I love the business.

Some products can be an eye irritant, because the product contains Melaleuca oil, which can irritate your eyes in the event you get it in them. Please call product support - they will clarify the "warning" for you...

It says keep out of reach of children, because they are not intended to be drunk or played with by children...in the event it occurs - please - don't panic. They are safe - call prodduct support or a poison control line...just to see if you should give them anything.

Your child could die from lysol
or have diareaha from a Melaleuca product - which would you prefer?

I may be mis-wording this, but those warnings have to be on there just because they are cleaning products...not because they are actually harmful.

I am sorry that the business didnt work for you.
