I saw a really nice looking W900L Studio in the truck trader and called MHC of Tulsa to find out a little more about it.  I spoke with Chris Maltheson who was very nice and told me about the truck and the remaining warranty from previous engine rebuild.  I was very interested and tried to run a rigdig report to find out about the title history on the truck but it came back with an invalid vin # message.  I called Chris and told him there must be a typo on their website so he sent me a copy of the title.  I tried to run the rigdig again but got the same message so I called Chris back and asked him to send me a picture of the vin plate on the truck, one of them only had the last 6 digits and the other was too faded to read.  I could tell that everyone at the dealership thought that I was nuts but finally they agreed to get the service manager and locate the metal plate with the full vin # for me.  They called back and admitted that I was right and there was an typo on the title and all associated paperwork for this truck.  Once I had the correct vin, I was able to run the rigdig report and told Chris I was very interested in buying this truck.  Since I live in upstate NY, I asked him alot of questions about the truck and he assured me that it was a definite 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 for both cosmetical and mechanical issues.  He said that everything on the truck worked, all the lights and gauges were great. I have over 25 years experience and am quite aware that a used truck is a used truck so I asked Chris what it would take to buy this truck.  It was priced at $49,900 but he told me that $45,000 would probably buy it.  I gave them a credit card # for a $500 deposit and agreed to wait the 2 weeks for them to get the title corrected before coming to Tulsa to finalize the purchase.

 

I booked a flight and let them know when I would be there to inspect the truck.  They contacted me 2 days before I was due in Tulsa asked me to sign a purchase contract but I told them I was uncomfortable doing that until I physically inspected it.  When I got there I changed clothes and borrowed a creeper from the shop.  I discovered that there was a broken rib next to the fuel tank that was allowing it to rub and would wear a hole in it soon.  Before I could even take it for a test drive, I noticed an air leak because MHC had failed to connect>>>>.  The other things that needed to be fixed on the truck were:  Motor mounts, webbing and straps on fuel tanks, several brake shoes and drums. 

While I waited for the shop to connect the >>> so I could take the truck for a drive, I spoke with the finance/sales manager. Although I felt misled by Chris' statement that the truck was an 8, I was willing to pay $45,000 for it and invest the other $3,000 to $4,000 to fix the things that I had found.  Not only was the manager unwilling to take $45K, he told me that he had difficulty believing that Chris would tell me $45K.  I assured him that I was not the unethical, lying party in this transaction.  I had done everything that I said I would do in order to buy this truck.

 I am, in fact, an employee of MHC Kenworth Tulsa for more than 10 years. We do not, nor have we ever, employed any individual by the name of "Chris Matheson" in sales or any other department. Perhaps you were speaking with MHC Truck Leasing, but I can assure you it was NOT MHC Kenworth.
