I purchased my kitten from Munira Murrey, in her home, in December of 2013.  Upon purshasing I signed a 2 yr health guarentee for my kitten for any diseases.  The next day after bringing my kitten home I emailed Munira about my cat's eye

Hi munira,
Just a quick question, Louis's eyes are watering quite a bit is this normal or is there something I can do?  Thank you

She replied...

Dear Kirsten,

Persians with large eyes and short noses tear more than cats with small eyes.  Louis’ eyes don’t water excessively but if they are watering more than usual it is most likely due to the stress of moving - which is extremely common. As long as it is just tearing and there is no mucous or redness in the eye there is no need to use any antibiotics since he does not have an eye infection.  Many kittens also sneeze when they first move to a new home so if he starts sneezing within the next few days this is also normal and nothing to worry about.  It is no different to a kid getting a cold.  He will get over all the initial stresses within a couple of weeks.  You don’t have to do anything about it - just wait until he gets over it.

I wash around my cats’ eyes once a day with a piece of cosmetic pad (cut into quarters) or a small piece of paper towel, dipped in very warm water.  Dry with another piece of cosmetic pad or paper towel and this will prevent any tear stains build up on the fur below the eyes.  White dogs, such as Poodles, Maltese and Bichons are also prone to staining under the eyes and vets prescribe tetracycline for this problem.  I don’t think Louis’ tearing is from an eye infection - more because of his large eyes and short nose and hopefully it will get less as he settles into his new home.

Sincerely,
Munira

From recieving that I was under the impression that this was "normal", that he because he is a purebread he is prone to eye infections...months went on and louis had been in to the vet for a cpl eye infections, antibiotics etc were provided.

The last week of May in 2014, our cat's eye was not getting better, the drops of anitibiotics were nnot doing anything, he was distressed and violent because of the pain he was in.  I took him to the vet and they inserted dye into his eye and found an ulcer, he was immediatly put under and had surgery to try and save his eye.  They did a 3rd eye lid surgery, he was prescribed more antibiotics and tests were sent off to the lab.

The tests came back and Louis has herpes, chlamydia, and another virus I forget the actual name of it I am going back to the vet tommorrow.  My vet says this is most likely caused from birth, my cat is now on 4 medications, one will be for life for the herpes.  We are not sure yet if his eye will be removed we are still in the waiting process, we go in every 2 days for another visit.

Upon finding all of this out I googled persian Kelowna, to try and find Munira's contact info to call her...I was appalled and disgusted to see so many other owners that went through the same process as I have.  These last cpl weeks have been exhrutiating emotionally, as well as financially.

I contacted the SPCA and they have sent out a constible to demand that Munira get her cats tested and have a vet prove the results.  I have already contacted my lawyers and we are on standby deeming the results and findings of the SPCA investigation.

I will do everything in my power to have this "breeder" shut down, I have already made plans to contact the media as well as looking to get her charged with animal cruelty.  A woman knowingly breeding diseased animals is inhumane and it sickens me that she calls herself a breeder.

Munira, you sold the wrong woman a cat, I actually care about animals and their well being.  Good luck to you madam, expect a civil suit shortly.

Further to my Rebuttal of the lies posted by Kirsten Barnes, I am attaching proof of the health of my cats by way of a "No Fault" Report provided to me by the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BCSPCA).

I am also attaching a Cattery of Excellence report that certifies that MISSIONHILL PERSIANS & EXOTICS complies with and exceeds the requirements of The Cat Fanciers' Association and also the CANADIAN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION.

The attached hotos of the kitten sold to Kirsten Barnes were taken at the time she purchased the kitten.

KIRSTEN BARNES - LIAR AND IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNER

AUTHOR: Munira Murrey - ()

POSTED: Saturday, July 19, 2014

KIRSTEN BARNES purchased a healthy Persian kitten on December 14, 2013.  She is lying when she writes: "I signed a 2 yr health guarentee for my kitten for any diseases".  Her contract was for a 2 year GENETIC health guarantee and a kitten replacement guarantee if the kitten was vet checked within 72 hours of purchase and found to be unhealthy in any way.  Her Contract states:

2. Seller guarantees that the kitten described above is in good health at the time of purchase.  If examination by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of possession reveals otherwise, seller will replace the kitten with one of equal quality.  This guarantee does not include the common sniffles and/or problems arising from change of food & water that are associated with a change in environment.  If the kitten dies by the age of two years of a genetic health defect, seller will replace the kitten for one of equal quality upon availability basis upon receipt of a detailed necropsy report by a Veterinarian outlining the alleged health defect.  The kitten is from DNA tested PKD negative cats.

On December 15, 2013, at 10:02 a.m. the day after she purchased the kitten, she wrote the following in an e-mail to me:

"It seems that my son has an allergic reaction... he has developed hives on his skin...I don't think that we will be able to give that cute little guy a home due to this reaction.  I understand if you are not willing to let my cheque go but hopefully we can figure something out."

I replied on December 15, 2013:

"As state on my website, deposits on kittens are not refundable.  This covers the time and work taken for paperwork, etc.  This is 25% of the purchase price of the kitten... i.e. $150."

On December 15, 2013, at 9:56 p.m. she wrote again:

"Just a quick question, Louis's eyes are watering quite a bit is this normal or is there something I can do?".

Extracts of my reply on December 16th.

"Persians with large eyes and short noses tear more than cats with small eyes.  Louis' eyes don't water excessively but if they are watering more than ususal it is most likely due to the stress of moving - which is extremely common.  AS LONG AS IT IS JUST TEARING AND THERE IS NO MUCOUS OR REDNESS IN THE EYE THERE IS NO NEED TO USE ANY ANTIBIOTICS SINCE HE DOES NOT HAVE AN EYE INFECTION..."

After writing the above e-mail I received no further communication from Kirsten Barnes.

I wrote to  her on February 13th and again on March 1st, 2014 as follows:

"This is just a reminder that your kitten should be neutered latest by March 3" and "Your kitten should have been neutered by now and in case you have forgotten, it is required to notify me when you have neutered him.  Make sure your vet does not use ketamine as an anaesthetic".

I did not receive a reply to either of the above e-mails, nor did I ever receive a copy of his neutering certificate.  I received NO NOTIFICATION THAT THE KITTEN HAD ANY HEALTH ISSUES.

TO SUMMARISE:

The kitten was purchased on December 14, 2013 in perfect health and with no eye infections.  FIVE MONTHS LATER he developed an eye ulcer.  Eye ulcers have nothing to do with a cat having tearing, which is normal for Persians! He DID NOT  HAVE ANY UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS WHEN HE LEFT MY HOUSE.  He had been immunized as indicated in my contract:

"7.  The kitten has been immunized against panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calici virus on November 28, 2013 and a booster shot should be given at the end of December 2013."

I consider Kirsten Barnes to be an IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNER who should have taken my kitten to the vet within 72 hours of purchasing him as required under the terms of my Sales Contract.  I question her wisdom in not returning the kitten to me when she realized that her son was allergic to cats.

Breeding Persians is not a business for me.  It is an extremely expensive hobby.  I have bred and shown Persians very successfully for over 30 years and take pride in producing wonderful, healthy kittens for pet and show homes. This is the main reason I continue to find a lot of joy and satisfaction in continuing with this hobby.

FINALLY, Kirsten Barnes DID contact the BCSPCA and two Officers came to my house and spent a lot of time checking out my cats and cattery.  Her vicious, evil action has rebounded on her since the BCSPCA were extremely impressed with my cattery and the health and personality of my cats and the fact that my cats were well groomed with no mats and were very well socialized.  They said my cattery ranked amongst the best facilities they had ever seen and no action needed to be taken to improve it.  They gave me a Report for my records showing that they had been to my cattery and no action was recommended.  This Report is attached.  The Officers also suggested that I SHOULD SUE THE PEOPLE WHO HAD MADE THESE SLANDEROUS COMPLAINTS AGAINST ME AND THEY WOULD COME TO COURT AS MY WITNESSES.

I also attach a copy of a CATTERY OF EXCELLENCE CERTIFICATE and a photo of my kitten taken just prior to Kirsten Barnes purchasing him.
