At the time I agreed to have the system installed, I was not even employed and I told the installer of the concern that I would not be able to sign a 2 year contract (which turned out to be 3 years-I missed that fine print). I was told that I could cancel it, all I need to do is give a couple of referrals to Monitronics, which I did do at that time (and one of those referrals purchased the system).
It took me longer than I had anticipated to become employed again (after being laid off from my previous company), but I continued to pay the monthly bill. I was only able to find temporary employment for several months. When that job ended I called and told them I needed to cancel, I could not make these montly payments.
I was told to 'unplug' the box from the wall and to send a letter to cancel. I did. They said they never received the letter, and I still receive calls EVERY SINGLE DAY telling me I owe over $200 for past bills. I have called this company about 10 times, and yet I get letters stating that I have "Failed to communicate with them"!
I finally spoke with someone in Account Services and asked them why I am still getting billed. I was told because I signed a 3 year contract (I was told it was 2..again my fault for not seeing that in the fine print) that I will still have to pay for 2.3 more years! I asked how come then I was told to unplug the unit and send a cancellation letter and that would be all I would need to do. He says "Gee...I don't know why someone would have told you that.
Bottom line....this company (and the installation company Apex Alarm) have LIED LIED LIED. I see there are MANY MANY people that have been screwed by this company and I don't know why they are still even allowed to do business.
I don't care IF my credit gets ruined...I WILL NOT PAY THEM ONE MORE DIME!!!
Even if the system is advertised as FREE.....tell them to SHOVE THEIR PRODUCT AND THEIR SERVICE!
