Looking for a state inspection for your vehicle?  Try somewhere else...anywhere else.  I was originally grateful that they could get me in on such short notice on a Friday evening (and I'm beginning to see why), but they warned me that I would be charged whether or not I passed.  Seemed fine to me.  I had purchased the car roughly a year ago and wasn't expecting any issues.

Near the end of the inspection, I was informed that my rear breaks had not passed.  I was slightly confused being that I had no preformance problems or squealing.  No problem.  I get it.  Your businesses name is on the line, and I can respect that.  I therefore leave for no more than 10 minutes to get replacement pads, being they didn't have them.  I was then directed to come back an hour and a half later, when they had an opening.  Once again, I get it, no big deal.

I come back and ask about labor charges for throwing on the set.  Arnie basically said that he didn't know but that he charged by the hour.  At this point I start getting uneasy.  A seasoned mechanic should be able to give me at least a ball park.  They then Inform me that, even though they inspected the entire car less than a hour ago, they'll have to charge me the inspection rate they already charged me along with the labor associated with throwing on the break pads.  At this point I'm about ready to lose it.  I ask why and the guy behind the counter just points to some sign above him and gives me that, " your a moron" look.  I proceeded to tell them what I thought of their establishment and left, still no inspection and $22 poorer.

Basically, I get that they wanted paid for their time, but to charge for that time plus an extra inspection fee was across the line.  I've since found out that most places will give you a few days to fix your issue and give you the sticker when you sucessfully pass the inspection.

Bottom line, don't be a sucker like me.  Shop around and keep in mind that if you don't pass, someone may want to double dip into your wallet.  Hope this helps!

Honest and Fair Auto Shop

AUTHOR: Concerned T - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 17, 2015

I had had extensive dealings with Morris Tire and can report on my experiences with them. I would first say that the fact that I have bothered to go through yet another online registration just so I can post this comment should speak volumes. I also prefer to do all my own repair work and so I am quite familiar with the relative time required to do various repairs.

I have always found them to be fair and honest in their dealings, and their labor rates are reasonable. They are not the cheapest but they will do it right. When I want to make sure my wife's car is safe to drive I take it there because I know they will do a thorough inspection and not just slap a sticker on it. They have posted their prices and rules up front so there should be no surprise - If you bring your car in for inspection and it fails, you know up front that they can charge a re-inspection fee after the needed repairs have been completed and inspected.

My general experience is that they have been more than willing to combine repairs with an inspection and not charge for a re-inspection. There have been multiple times where they have been in the middle of the inspection and called me to tell me what was wrong (a ball joint for example), give me options and prices and ask if I want to have it done. In that case where I have had them do the work I have not paid a re-inspection fee even though according to their rules they could charge me.

I can only guess that this person's experience was different for reasons that may or may not be evident from their report. Some differences are that I scheduled to have the car inspected several days in advance so they had time to do repairs if needed, and I asked them to call me if they found anything wrong as part of the inspection process. I also didn't bring in my own parts and expect them to treat it as a book repair with a fixed labor fee. Personally I trust them to do things right and will continue to take my vehicles to their shop.
