I attempted to rent out my apartment in Orange County, CA.  I received a call from a guy who said he worked for Element Energy.  He described the company as a competitor to traditional energy suppliers and spoke for an extended time about "Energy Deregulation" in California.  He said his company was expanding very rapidly and he needed to provide housing for his employees that were going to be living in the area while working.  It sounded very good to me at first, but I became a little suspicious after he mentioned that he wanted to have the employees move in the next day. 

Keep in mind that the apartment had not even been seen by him at this time and he had limited information about it.  But the biggest red flag came when he began asking about what bank I use because he wanted to be able to wire the money to my account.  Of course, he would just need my account number and I could have the funds immediately.  I'm not sure what these guys are up to but it was definitely a scam.  If you're listing your property for rent, beware!
