I recieved a call starting i was approved for 50k. After i looked on line and investigated the situation. He George Wilson (sounded like he was from India) told me to pay the western union fee of $250.00 to receive the 50k. I later fora call  saying i could only get 42k in my account and 8000 in western union... Again i reserched the company and everything he said was on Google also he gave me a Richmond Virgina's address and i looked and saw exactly what he was saying. So i in fact did write the 250.00 to them but no money from them came thru..... I called back and they acted like they were working on it but still for days later nothing...... So I'm out of 250.00 and i have to close my account and start a new one.... What am i to do?????

Stop taking a short cut

What you need to do is to learn from this experience and move on. Do tell your story about what your mistake so others that do not know could learn from it. From now on, you need to understand certain points.

  1. When someone calls you and tells you that you have won some money BUT you have to PAY UP FRONT using any CASH SERVICE (such as Western Union, Money order, etc) to get the reward/award as processing fee, do NOT BELIEVE it. It is absolutely a SCAM.
  2. When you get a letter saying that you have won some money (big or small) and required to PAY UP FRONT, look at #1.
  3. When you get any contact (phone, letter, email, etc) saying that you have won some money but you have never entered or bouth any lottery, look at #1. There is NO SUCH A FREE GIVE AWAY.
  4. When you attempt to verify or research a company, do NOT LOOK for "positive" comments but do keep your eye on "negative" comments. Address is NOT a valid information for verification because it is public information and easy to fake.
  5. If you were scammed, learn from it and tell your friends about your mistake. Make sure that they listen and learn from your mistake. If any of your friends that hear your story and look down on you, they are not your friends (obviously).

You should also file a complain on FTC (www.ftc.gov) and give them as much information as you can about the scam. This type of scam is from a certain group of people that need to be punished.
