Many of the reviews pertaining to National Agents Alliance (NAA) do hold some merit. However, it seems to be a catch 22 of sorts. I got licensed about eight months ago and used NAA as my IMO. Did I make money, no, but I have been lazy and that is my fault. With that said, I do have a close friend that has done very well with them, so there is money to be made if you put forth the effort. My biggest complaint is that she had to buy into all the crap NAA pushes; presidents club, conferences, trips to the weekly conference calls in Burlington, NC etc... She has budgeted around $1,500 a month on leads through their lead program-- leads are automatically sent to her until she reaches her budget. My other complaint is that it is impossible to build a book of business because agents do not earn renewals...that goes into NAA coffers. Everything at NAA has a price tag to include training. Time spent at their weekly hot spots is mostly a big cool-aid drinking party where people are spoon feed the NAA dream. If you're into the cult culture and selling people a false dream.........then NAA will be a great fit for a while. I expect to see NAA on CNBC's show American Greed someday. 

 

If you're interested in joining them by all means do so, but don't join all the crap because it will put a huge dent in profits and remember you will be 1099 and paying your own taxes. But be warned...you probably won't make much becuase if you don't follow Albright and his droids blindly you'll not be approved to purchase good leads. The really good leads go to the top and everyone else gets the crumbs that are left over. Of course, I guess its like the rest of corporate America. Best of Luck and hope that NAA changes their training to FREE...if they truly want people to be successful.

Let's get some facts straight...

I started in the insurance industry with a top rated hiiiighly respected company as a captive agent, one of the largest & oldest in the country. I left after being unsuccessful there and having no friends or family left after attempting to build a "word of mouth" business (aka no leads). A few weeks later I ended up at NAA, where I personally have made more money in 4 months here than I did over 10 months at the other place. So to respond to a few of your remarks:

-NAA provides the framework, tools, and support for you to run your own business. So while these tools WILL help your business, just like ANY business owner you have to be smart about your expenses. Signing up for everything right off the bat might not be the right move for you, especially if you're living paycheck to paycheck. Think about it for a second.... if you just opened a retail shop would you immediately go out and spend $ you didn't have on consultants, marketers, and online services even if they DID help your business? Probably not.... you would earn a little $ first and build up to using other services as your profit allows... But at first you BOOTSTRAP and do it all your self.

So I don't pay for Prez Club but they still call me to check in and see if I need help with anything, even without paying for a subscription. And I don't go to HQ every week either. Weekly trips are great to get around successful people if you can swing it, but you can also just watch or listen to the TWC every week for FREE, at your own convenience. 

And the books they recommend.... It's like college bro. Do you automatically go out and run to the university book store for everything on the list? Heck no!!! I get used versons for next to nothing online. 

-So yes you're 1099... Yes you pay your own taxes, but hey, that also means that any money you put into your business for leads, conferences, hotels, Prez Club, gas to get to your appointments... It's all a TAX DEDUCTION. Even your health insurance is a tax deduction when you're 1099. Either you can have Uncle Sam automatically take 30% off the top at your W2 J-O-B, or you can have more control over where that money goes by investing in yourself. I'd rather choose to spend it on my business than have some bureaucrats argue for months over how to spend it. (*I'm not a certified tax professional, always check with one when doing your taxes to make sure this applies to you.... But I have studed a good deal of business and personal taxation, so I'm not just blowing smoke here either)

-First of all, there ARE renewal comissions available once you reach higher comission levels. But here's the thing..... It takes most agents 5 - 10 years to build up a decent renewal base. And if you're at a traditional insurance company the people over you are making overrides on your sales that whole time. And it's HARD to get that management position. It's competitive and policitical, like most promotions at traditionally run companies are. At NAA they turn that on it's head and let you recruit new agents and build up your own overrides. Comparatively this is where the real money is!!!!!! You can make 10 years worth of renewals in your first 6 months of overrides if you're recruiting the right way. I'd rather have the $ today, not 10 years from now. Also, if you do a good job following up with current clients you'll make muliple sales on them over the years.

-Actually, the majority of training is FREE. Hot spots are FREE, weekly conference calls are FREE, all the basic courses that teach you about the products are FREE. There are trainings you can pay for, but you don't NEED them to get started (and the online courses you do pay for are only $7 each.... not exactly raking you over the coals). While some of the training events do have a $100 ticket, that is PENNIES compared to what the other, "reputable" company had me spending on the same kind stuff.

-The first hour is meant to introduce new people to the opportunity. Of COURSE it feels like drinking the koolaid. It's the recruiting part of it. But the last 2 hours are all FREE TRAINING. I've gotten sales tips from hotspots that helped me double a sale the very next day. If you're not getting anything out of a hotspot it's because you aren't paying attention and you aren't asking good enough questions.

-You can set up a request for any leads you want... If you're not willing to ask them to generate you X number of leads per week, then YES you are left with what's left over. But they aren't second rate leads... They're the SAME LEADS you get with a marketing request, NAA just happened to get more in than needed to fill other agent's requests so they let you purchase them at will. I'm doing great and I don't even buy the most expensive A leads.... I have a requst set up for older leads since they'r cheaper and I have plenty of success :) Some of my BEST sales have come from 3 year old leads and the resulting referrals.

...there's another thing. Referrals. The better you get at asking for them, the less you'll spend on leads bc it's free :) There are people making WELLLLLLLLLLLLL into 6 figures and they barely spend anything on leads because they're good at asking for referrals. Good agent's make $ by balancing the two, referrals and leads.

 

So to wrap it up, what I'm trying to say is that people need to lay off NAA. And while NAA does come on pretty strong at first, they aren't a cult.  Yeah they sort of want you to be a droid at first, but that's just because the top people at NAA have already figured out how to be successful in a hard industry to get started in, and they want to share that with you. Since they've already navigated the minefield I'm OK with following in thier path. Why waste my time being headstrong just to learn a lesson that I've been told all along? Just balance that with your own best judgement and budget/needs.

No matter who you're with, the insurance industry can be extremely profitable IF you can hack it. But you have to have a business owner mindset and you have to work your tail off the first few years. So what ever you put into this business you'll get out of it, NAA or otherwise.
