ok so we all know in pittsburgh that national city either became first niagra or PNC my fiance and i were national city customers then were transfered to pnc. We both had free checking accountswell when pnc took over our accounts we were told verbally that our accounts would stay the same, this was not true i got free checking but he was given something called a work perks access checking account we didn't know what the difference was we thaught it was normal ... till he lost his job.

It winds up you have to have a direct deposit of 400.00 or more in order not to accrue charges. if you dont then you get chared 36.00 a day! i called pnc after he was negative 84.00 and was told it was his fault and he had to pay it and will continue to fight this tooth and nail till this gets resolved if he had free checking in one place it should have transferred to the other! they are rude and nasty and like to issue threats but i will get his money back some how.

Malfunction? It's ILLEGAL!!

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 30, 2011
You said a monthly service fee overdrew the account and you were charged an overdraft fee from it. If this was truly a case, then you need to bring it to the banks attention because the system is not designed to work that way...

If this is what happened it is ILLEGAL.  The new banking/overdraft laws that went into effect LAST AUGUST state that such an overdraft fee caused by an account service fee is ILLEGAL!

Bring this to their attention and let them know that you will report this to the Controller of the Currency and FDIC as well as your State banking commission if they do not correct and credit your account appropriately.

Good luck.

Shouldn't be charged a fee from a fee...

I know you said ou're done with this issue... but one thing you said stuck out. You said a monthly service fee overdrew the account and you were charged an overdraft fee from it. If this was truly a case, then you need to bring it to the banks attention because the system is not designed to work that way... a "fee" may bring account negative, but it should not result in another "fee". IF the system somehow malfunctioned, you may be eligible for a refund... and since I dont know the specifics of the situation I can only say it's *possible* that if this somehow happened, then its possible it may have s****.>

POSTED: Tuesday, August 23, 2011

this is the last post i make on this. i know how to balance a d**n checkbook i am not an idiot. i was pissed off when i put this up it was not meant to make you all mad ok. i was irritated we got screwed i don't know who did it pnc or national city and i do not care anymore i am not going to argue with people on line because i am better than that. for your information we owe pnc alot more that 200.00 now so yeah i dont have to disclose how much because that is none of your buisness and we are trying to settle also i am not paying a d**n dime in legal fees so yeah. next we didnt touch the bank account for months when we left it it had about 400.00 in it. the monthly fees are what overdrafted the account. and then we accrued the overdraft fees. it was just bad timing all around and since we did not know who was to blame or why it happened we were outraged i am sure you can understand. now as to all of the facts. your oppinion does not matter to me anymore. yes i like pnc they have not screwed me over yet unlike national city. So before you go all psycho on someone maybe you should put your self in their shoes. i am glad pnc has so many peolpe that like them good for them i on the other hand could care less this is over and done with and i am moving on so yeah have a nice life and i am done.

Here are the facts, apparently you should check them out

AUTHOR: Kdtsmom - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 23, 2011

I work in banking operations for many years. I'll give you the facts

my fiance and i open our accounts the same day and we both have paperwork that states it is a free interest checking account so how am i wrong?
You can open any product you wish and have it converted at any time.

i do not appreciate you attacking me over this.
I do not appreciate you making false statements when it's clear you do not understand how financial insitiutions work.

we have the paperwork and the booklets that state it was a free checking account we both had deposits of 500.00 or more every two weeks so why didnt we both get transferred to the workperks account type.
Having direct deposit over $400 doesnt automatically transfer you account to WorkPerks. Again, WorkPerks is a National City product. You cannot be placed into it by PNC. If you're accoutn was converted to WorkPerks it happed while the account was at National City. If it was done without your knowledge, it was a National City employee who did the transfer, but you're bashing PNC for something the OLD bank did?

also he had 283.00 in his account before he lost his job and didn't touch it. he got unemployment and it went on a card so pnc decided to take the money out of his account every day he did not have a depost so again i say check your facts
so you are telling me that PNC charges you everyday you do not make a deposit to your account? Wow... seems like the line at the bank would be out the door if you had to make a despoit EVERYDAY or else you were charged a fee. If you are negative, you are charged a fee. If you are not meeting balance requirments, you will be charged a service fee MONTHLY. You are sent a statement of the account MONTHLY and if you had bothered to open it, you would have seen it. For an account with $283.00 to fall negative from MONTHLY service fee's it would take 28 months. If you didnt open a statement for 2 years and 4 months, that you're own fault. You were sent notification of your account monthly.

Also, I might add... if your account is NEGATIVE (you spend more than you had) you will not only be accessed a $36 overdraft fee, AFTER 5 DAYS OF OEVRDRAFT you will accrue a $7/day fee for up to 14 days that your account remains overdrawn. That's only $98... not sure how you do your math. But you said they took money out EVERDAY when the account was positive. Maybe you ought to check the facts :)

the are trying to harrass us to this day
If you're account was negative and charged off, it's debt collectors who are harassing you. PNC sells your debt  to collection agencies. They are harassing you, bill collectors are harassing you for the money that is owed to the bank.

.and i have a lawyer who is helping us take them on as well as 433 other people this has happened to in my area.
Oh, you have a lawyer, do you? So you are paying more than $2000 in legal fees to bring a case against PNC over $283? That makes perfect sence, being as that this entire issue is you're inability to keep $2000 in a checking account to avoid a service fee.

i was putting this up to find others who had this problem.
433 other people who had a service issue with National City who think they are going to burn PNC for it. PNC is not National City. They bought them out, it was not a merger. It was a takeover. Those building and accoutns are PNC accounts now. National City does not exsist. PNC is not responsible for National City's wrongs. (assuming National City was actually wrong)

i hope you have a nice day.
This is a friendly conversation about how the banking industry works, not a personal attack. You cant expect to dish out a boat load of critism without being able to accept a little in return. Take care.

Really?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Okay the fact that you think you got charged $36 a day because you didn't have direct deposit says you really don't know what you are talking about.

my fiance and i open our accounts the same day and we both have paperwork that states it is a free interest checking account so how am i wrong?
- Read the paperwork you have.  I would bet that there is something in the paperwork that says they have the right to change the terms including the requirements and/or fees for the account.  When they transferred the accounts I would bet that you got new terms, but either ignored them thinking your original terms overrode the changes, or just thought it was junk mail and tossed it.  Unfortunately it doesn't change the fact that the terms did change.

If I was to also guess, I would bet that neither of you use a written register to track your account.  You just use your debit card and let the bank tell you when you are out of money.  But if you do even if you did not "opt-in" to Overdraft protection there are still ways you can overdraft.

i have a lawyer who is helping us take them on as well as 433 other people this has happened to in my area
- Good luck but if this lawyer is charging you even a penny you are getting Ripped off, but not by the bank.

WRONG WRONG WRONG

AUTHOR: Kdtsmom - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, August 22, 2011

You're so wrong it's ridiculous. Let me point out how wrong you are...

1. Your checking account IS exactly as it was at National City, and you were in the WorkPerks plan at National City and getting direct deposit of $400 or more and thats why you weren't charged a service fee. I can assure you this because the only way you would be in WorkPerks at PNC is if it were grandfathered in on your account from National City. The WorkPerks program was a NationalCity product, not a PNC product. Had you stopped your direct deposit at National City, you would have been charged a service fee then as well.

2. You're monthly service fee is between $10-$12 (depending on which market you are located in) and is only charged if you do not meet your balance requirements or stop your direct deposit. You said so yourself, the direct deposit stopped, and you did not meet the balance requirements, so you are admittedly not meeting the criteria to avoid the service fee.

3. the $36 fee is a result of you overdrafting your account. You spent more money than you had, the bank charges you $36 each time you do that. They $36 each day you talk about is a result of you  spending more money then you have everyday. Simple solution, learn how to balance a checkbook. Quit spending money you dont have!

4. Back when you orginally opened your checking account you were given a booklet of disclosures that outlined how a checking account worked and all the possible fee's that could be accessed and why. You signed a contract stating that you have recieved disclosures and you have read them and agree to them... ask the bank to show you were you signed this... they have online access to it and i'm sure they would love to shove it in your face. You agreed to it! If you are in the habit of signing contracts without knowing what you are agreeing to, thats you're own stupidity.

5. Go ahead and try to find a lawyer who will even listen to this nonsence. PNC does not issue threats, they simply told you that he is responsible for paying back the banks money that he spent when he didnt have enough. I dont see that as threatning.
