National Tenant Network is allowing "landlords" to illegally rerun credit reports on current or older tenants. These tenants have already been approved, and many have been living in dwellings for several months or even years.

This practice is illegal. A tenant does not have to continue or re qualify to live in their unit, duplex or house.

Why do landlords pull this stunt? Mostly to see if you can handle a "rental increase" or just to snoop on you--the tenant. Did you buy a new car? Pay off any debts? Are you opening new credit card accounts in various department stores? Is none of your landlords business!!!

This "branch" of National Tenant Network, has connections to: Fox Management located in Portland Oregon and Ostrom Properties. Both of these "companies" conduct themselves in a shyster manner--they lie to protentioal tenants, make up exaggerated stories about themselves, and attempt to ruin good tenants reputations in the housing market.

My recommendation to rememdy this illegal behavior is to run regular credit checks on yourself, and if you are "re" screened--then sue in court. I also recommend that if you are currently a tenant or landlord of either Fox Management, Ostrom Properties or have been screened by National Tenant Network you cover yourself.

Conclusion: National Tenant Network, also attempts to mis-direct, by using different addresses. On the screening reports they will list Sherwood, Oregon when in fact they have a office in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

I recently had the same thing happen to me!

AUTHOR: gimaven - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, April 04, 2011

I have already signed my lease and have paid to move in to my new home but for some reason, NTN decided to start calling all of my references and run another credit check!  This is not only stressful but causes tremendous problems with my personal credit rating.  Not only that, they are reporting erroneous information and someone needs to have oversight of their business....this type of business HAS to be violating the law with these actions!
I will be reporting them for running an unauthorized credit report and will be sending them a Cease and Desist letter demanding that they do not contact any of my references again unless they have written approval.
My landlord and I are also going to have a heart to heart about this business!

NTN and Landlords are the problem? Don't think so.

AUTHOR: Mlandlord - (U.S.A.)

i have been a landlord for 11 years. i have no affiliation with NTN, but i probably will very soon! i have NEVER made more money via a contract/lease with a tenant than was possible as stated in that lease. HOWEVER, i have been ripped off 9 out of 10 times by my tenants VIOLATING THE LEASE by either deciding that their deposit was good for the last month's rent and they didn't have to pay that month (20%); they simply leave in the middle of the lease with no notice (40%); they quit paying but DON'T leave (40%), then use MY money as a down payment on a house or deposit for another rental property (15%); they not only make no attempt to put the property back into the condition it was when they rented minus normal wear and tear, but leave me their garbage to get rid of and/or put holes in walls and have the inability to keep their filthy hands off the walls, never clean up a spill, making a carpet's life about 3 years rather than 10 with multiple steam cleanings and scrubbings per year necessary (95%); OR, SOME COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE.

Thor, if you have ever done any of the above, and i am betting you have, then you have no right to complain about ANYTHING any landlord has done to you.

as far as re-running credit, it didn't cost the tenant anything and, yes, the landlord DOES have a right to know what is going on with a tenant when negotiating a lease renewal if only because things change. why you think that a landlord doesn't have the right to protect his income and his property against a 90% chance that the tenant is going to rip him off one way or another, i'll never know, except for the probability that you wish to be allowed to continue ripping off landlords and that you have never been one. one has to assume that your credit was re-run and the landlord (fox management? ostrom properties?) found out something that you didn't want them to know. bummer.

i don't know about oregon law, but it is probably similar to texas law, where i have judgments for over $26,000 against tenants in real money that they didn't pay me and i will NEVER have the possibility of collecting more than 5% of it. the laws are SO slanted for the tenants and, in this situation, other "bad guys" that a decent, law-abiding landlord doesn't have a chance to get the money out of a property that is promised him via contract.

by the way, most corporations have many more than two addresses and it has nothing to do with misdirection or deception. it's called "doing business".
