This is public record and can be found on the BBB website. My goal is to inform the public about Nationwide's unethical practices. Be careful out there people! Be very careful with your response to their questions. Do not consent to a tape recorded interview without a lawyer!

I am rejecting this response because:

The Nationwide response is a lie. From the beginning, I have been very open and honest about all previous damage. I did change the areas on the car filed in the claim because I was so tired of arguing with Nationwide adjusters that I gave up. I told the investigator to "screw it". Don't worry about the front panel or back panel because it's honestly not even worth fighting for because I was so tired of being bullied and pressured by Nationwide adjusters. The investigator called me multiple times while I was at work. I was so upset at work that I was shaking and on the verge of tears. He came to meet me in the parking deck at work to assess my car. I was so upset and frustrated that I told him to screw it. After I told him that, I knew I had made a mistake. I have been a faithful and loyal customer with Nationwide for over six years. I have never missed a payment or had a late payment. They should pay in full for my claim. I took my car to GM for an estimate. I know that some damage is prior damage. I showed the GM manager where the prior damage was so that he does not include that in the estimate. I had him give me an estimate for the top part of the back panel. That is prior damage and I am more than willing to pay for that out of pocket. Nationwide shot down my independent estimate from GM stating that GM is a biased third party. If we use that logic, then any where I go for an estimate is a biased third party. So how is that fair. This may be my first time filing a claim, however, I am not stupid. I am entitled to get my own independent estimate and it should be treated with respect my Nationwide. This did not happen and I will send copies of emails with Myron Furbay to prove it.

I am absolutely disgusted by how I have been treated by my own insurance company. I have been harassed and bullied by Nationwide representatives and adjusters. I don't care about the money. Honestly, I do not even care about getting my car fixed. I have no problem driving around in a ghetto beat up car. I mean it's just a car. To me it is about the principle of the matter. I am a paying customer. I filed this claim assuming that Nationwide would treat it fairly. Obviously, this did not happen. Nationwide even went as far as to demand that I meet with the investigator at the scene and give a tape recorded interview. This is absolutely ridiculous and unethical. Nationwide sent me a check for half the value it will take to fix my car. Honestly, I don't want their money. I plan on donating it to charity. However, I fully intend on filing a bad faith lawsuit against Nationwide. They emphatically state that there is no way a deer could have caused that damage. However, they have no real proof. Nationwide had some wanna be forensic investigator assess my car. Nationwide can use all the junk science they want. But there is no way they can prove with 100% certainty that the deer did not cause the damage to the doors front and back lower panel. As a loyal and paying customer, Nationwide is required by law to assess my claim in good faith. It is painfully obvious that this did not happen in my case. I fully intent to file suit and take my situation to local and national news. The public deserves to know what kind of company Nationwide is and how they treat their loyal customers. I can not believe that out of all their customers they decided to choose me to pick on and bully. And investigate me for insurance fraud. My credibility and reputation is on the line here. Obviously, they have no idea who I am because they messed with the wrong person. I will not let this go. And I will not take this laying down. This is not over by a long shot. Never underestimate the power of social media :)

Insurance Adjusters are Trained to Rip You Off

AUTHOR: Phillip - ()

POSTED: Thursday, August 28, 2014

In the past five years, I personally have had Bad Faith dealings with three insurance companies in regard to auto claims. When it comes to claims, only the obvious damage will go into the estimate and the insurance adjuster will use the cheapest salvage, aftermarket or refurbished parts available. These replacement parts are cheap and may not offer the same safety benefits as OEM parts and some things such as lights do not last nearly as long as the factory parts. The same is true with body repair and paint materials, the repair shop will cut corners to break even on the work.

Nationwide insurance purchased Harleysville Insurance and I have a claim against these companies for their negligent driver who did a U-Turn into my classic Mercedes. Damage starts on the front bumper and goes all the way down the side to the rear tire. The adjuster from Nationwide insists there is no damage in front of the wheel and excluded materials such as the chrome strips that are gouged beyond simple cleaning.

The check issued to me is very minimal and does not cover all the damages to restore the car to its pre-collision condition. Harleysville insurance will not replace the tire that has sidewall cuts, will not finish polish the damaged area with a professional grade of Polymer Sealant that was applied 60 days before this accident occurred.

Other things listed on the estimate written by the insurance adjuster were also very cheap and less than the cost of service at a competent repair shop. One shop I had an estimate written at stated "it will be very difficult to find the damaged chrome due to the vintage of this car."

Insurance companies are argumentative and will use any statement you make to benefit their position and also use Due Diligence to justify their position of being very cheap when it comes to claims. Even if you filed a lawsuit against an insurance company, its unlikely you would ever recover any of your legal fees beyond the original offer listed in the Scope-of-Damages. When it comes to Property Damage, the insurance adjuster will put a number on the value of your property and treat it as if its a toaster that is easily replaceable.

ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES treat their customers badly when a claim is filed, its good business for them to inflate profits by cheating their own customers and it's a sick practice.
