My family and I were victims of hurricane/storm Sandy. We have nationwide mutual home owners insurance, and they have not been ON OUR SIDE throughout this horrific ordeal. They gave us the run around from day one. I put in a claim 3 days after the storm. It took them 3 weeks to come and assess the wind damage.
They were NOT helpful, nor were they sympathic. In fact...they couldn't care less about their customers. They NEVER called me to keep me informed on the status of my claim. I had to call them every other day to find out when an adjuster was coming. Never getting any results.
I was pushed off to one person after another. I finally got an adjuster assigned to me after promising them a law suit. I had contractors come to my home to give me an estimate of the damage to fix what was damaged. They said it would cost us around $25,000 or more.
Nationwide's adjuster called me on Thanksgiving Day to tell me they were only giving us $12,000 for our losses, then wished me a happy Thanksgiving!!!! We lost almost everything...we now have a huge leak in our kitchen ceiling caused by wind damage to our roof outside. The entire ceiling and roof needs to be repaired.
I had 6 ft. of water in my basement, no electric, no heat, no hot water. I also lost 3 cars...and all of my personal property. I also lost all electrical wiring, breaker box, furnice, hot water heater, kitchen, bathroom, sink, cabinets, clothing, washer & dryer in my basement.
The attic window broke from the wind and flew out, the side window pn my home also came loose from the siding that flew off around it. My husband had to put wood on it, to keep it from falling out. Our garage doors flew off, and siding and gutters flew off of the home and garage.
My front steps railings flew off, I had damage to my back deck, front door, front porch and front storm door broke. We were displaced up until late this week...we couldn't live in our home. It was unsafe.
Channel 5 news was on my block about 2 wks ago, my husband was interviewed by Arnold Diaz. His camera crew came into my home. They too couldn't believe the damage that was done. My husband complained about nationwide to Arnold Diaz, he was on the news about this.
I am livid and very upset, I can't stop crying. I'm making myself sick with worry on how we're going to fix things with the little money nationwide is giving us. That is NOT nearly enough to cover what we lost in wind damage.
Nationwide is NOT on your side, that is a lie! I put in a complaint with consumer affairs, and I'm writing to the CEO ( Stephen S. Rasmussen) the " Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Governance Officer" (Patricia R. Hatler) and anyone else who will help me with this ripoff insurance company.
They're NOT getting away with this. If anyone out there is thinking of getting any kind of insurance with this RIPOFF insurance company NATIONWIDE. DON'T DO IT! You will go through what I and many others went through. I am not the only one who got ripped off by this company. Thank you
