I brought a puppy home from this breeder. I tried to get an updated photo of the puppy while I was waiting to pick him up, but never did receive one, breeder stated that she did not have a chance to get new photos. When I picked him up, I knew why. He was bloated, covered in fleas, dehydrated and you could see every one of his ribs, hip bones, and his back bone. I should not have had to spend my first 2 hours home with my new puppy removing fleas from him and trying to get the color back in his gums. I did not research breeders before buying my puppy and now I wished that I had. After bringing him home I started getting curious about his line, and asked several questions regarding his pedigree.

She stated that he came from Euro lines so I was curious how much of my puppy was euro. In an email she said that the mother was 75% Euro. After searching for more information on my puppy's dam, I came across a website that looked like an older one that was never deleted. Same mother, same name, and description, only she is listed as 100% Euro. Another lie. When my puppy came down with a common growth issue for the breed, I brought it up to her, she had never heard of it.

The truth is, my puppy may suffer from several health issues along the way because of horrible early nutrition and care, and ZERO health testing in his line. If you want to buy a Great Dane puppy, buy from a reputable and reponsible breeder. You will want to have TONS of adorable puppy photos, and show them off. All I have are photos of a sad sickly looking puppy with bones sticking out everywhere. I am embarrassed to show anyone photos of what he looked like when I brought him home. He was not well, and it was obvious from his physical appearance. No breeder should allow a puppy to go to his new forever home in that condition. PLEASE do your research before considering this breeder.

This breeder was contacted several times prior to the pano issue without response. The only responses received were about the color of my puppy (which she did not even know- BYB) She calls him silver (He is a blue fawn merle) Complaints were made prior to 4 months, but without response. Yes, it was contact by email which probably isn't the best form of communication, but by then I had already found a forum full of more knowledgable people who could help me with my problems and offer the support that the breeder failed to do. Regarding his condition and size, the only response I received was "all puppies naturally have worms, and you might not be feeding him a good enough food"

Regarding the fleas- Her husband flat out told me he had fleas because they lived in the country when I met up with him, after seeing my reaction to them crawling all over him. The puppy REEKED of chemicals and he confirmed that he had just had a flea dip prior to dropping him off. So the argument that he did not have fleas, after he had already acknowledged them, is simply pointless.

His swollen stomach had nothing to do with eating prior to picking him up. If that were the case, his bones would not have been showing. All of his ribs, his backbone, and his hip bones. That has nothing to do with "eating right before being picked up"

As for the excuses on the photos. You aren't required to list photos. I was simply warning anyone considering buying a puppy from you what to expect so no need to make excuses about it. However, you did kind of prove my point about being legally blind and breeding dogs to begin with.

I should have trusted my gut and not brought him home in the first place. My emotions got in the way and I took him anyway. That was my mistake, and I won't be making it again. I am trying to be responsible after purchasing from a BYB and learning what a BYB, by filing this report and letting others know my experiences. Nothing that I have listed in this report has been libel or with intention of defamation of character.

The following statements are FACTS that can be seen on the breeders own website, to help others reading this report distinguish the difference between a reputable breeder and a BYB:

This breeder sells puppies under 8 weeks (my puppy, according to the date of birth that was given by the breeder herself was just barely 7 weeks old, and was offered to be delivered at 6 weeks)
This is against the law in almost all 50 states. All you have to do is look at the website from the time they are born until the time they are delivered to see that they are under 8 weeks.

AKC papers are SOLD for extra money rather than offered as "limited" or "full" This is looked down on by AKC themselves.

There is no health testing done on the breeders dogs. Hips, heart, eyes, thyriod etc. No testing done to check for congenital defects. Breeder simply states "no known health problems"

Breeder was trading the last few puppies from the last litter for "flat screen tv's, laptops, or anything else of use" Trading puppies for electronics should be one of the top 10 ways to identify a BYB.

Breeder claims good conformation on the sires and dams (I am not sure how many there actually are, website states there are 2 females and 1 male, yet lists the names of 2 different males, 2 females, and another female, the dam of her current litter, which is not listed anywhere on her site)
And there are no photos showing actual conformation of the dogs.

Nothing in the report has been fabricated, and this breeder cannot even be sure of half of the claims, as she was not even involved in the delivery of the puppy to begin with, another indication that you are dealing with a BYB, as she did not even meet the person taking one of her puppies home.

I urge this breeder would do some research on the difference between a reputable and reponsible breeder, and a backyard breeder. I think that it might benefit her greatly to see which category she is in.

Hi

I would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight. First off, I never had one complaint from her until she took her puppy to the vet four months later. She emailed me and told me that her puppy had pano. She made it out to be this huge deal. Now I did not know the "technical" term but is is simply growing pains. She want to down grade me because I didn't know the vet term used. It was then and only then that she started complaining about fleas and all this other stuff. No complaints for four months. And as soon as she told me about it I added it to my website so for people that are only looking at my site will know some of the common issues with large breed dogs. I cannot control when a dog starts having growing pains and is very typical of the breed. Now how am I supposed to be in control and blamed for all this other stuff she is saying.

Regarding the fleas, she had him for four months and was clear she didn't do anything preventative measures. When the puppy was delivered to her he didn't have fleas. He had a big tummy because we had just fed him. We do this because we don't know if they will make it to the store before it is time for them to eat again. All of my puppies are wormer 2 times and given their first set of puppy shots.

Second, in regards to the pictures she only told half of the "story" of that. I am legally blind and I rely on my daughters to help me with the pictures. Both of my girls are involved in several activities including volleyball, basketball, scholars bowl, drama club, art club, and a few others along with my oldest working. So it is very hard for them to find time to help me with getting updated photos.

I am not a backyard breeder. All of our dogs are inside dogs and never, never tied, thrown out somewhere and forgot about. We don't just keep them in a kennel and breed the crud out of them. In regards to the Euro issue I was going off of the lady I got my female from. I took part of the mom's name and the dad's name and that might be where she is coming from when saying she seen another ad or something. I am not sure.

Ever since she took the puppy to the vet at four months with the growing pain issues it has been adding one thing after another and not once said anything from the time she got him so that is very frustrating because they are spuing things that aren't true. If I didn't give a crud about my dogs I would sell a puppy with no shots, no wormer, no records, etc. If she would have asked to see the mother and fathers papers I could have showed them to her. She had the option of registering her puppy but chose not to. Since this seems to be an issue I am working on scanning the papers to attach to the dogs pictures so there are no questions. But I shouldn't be slandered because of that. She had over 6 weeks to ask about them and any other questions she had. She asked nothing else except for the pictures and I explained that above. I just don't want to be lumped into a bad catergory because nothing is farther from the truth! There were several other puppies sold from the same litter and I haven't received any other complaints and I am always available. When I sell a puppy I give them a business card, a letter in the folder with all of my contact information (email, cell phone, and home phone).

I am just at a loss of what else to say. She has fabricated everything except for the fact I didn't know the technical term for growing pains.
