I got a collection call this morning for what they claimed was an Xcel Energy delinquent account in Denver, CO. When I checked with Xcel Energy, the account showing under my name and social security number was clear; in fact I still had a credit balance of $11. My wife's social security also showed no indebtedness. According to Xcel, the account number that Nelson, Watson & Associates was referring to belonged to another person. Furthermore the indebtedness was incurred one year after we had left the apartment. Nelson, Watson & Associates said they sent us a collection letter last September, 2008; we never received any communication from them.
