3/24/08 tried emailing an order for netdetective for 29.95. consumer something said this was THE company to access needed information. evidently in hind sight consumer co must be owned by netdetective/hd publishing. order was a 'failed order'.

3/25/08 NOT to be outdone, called them and said 'failed order'? Damaris had no idea why. however she'd give me a 19.95 deal. so they deducted that amt from my acct/card. yes, there's a 3 mo cancellation time with dollars to be returned any time in that time period if not pleased.

3/25/08 not pleased. won't work on aol, which is what i have. doesn't work on my computer using internet explorer as 'they' suggested either. i called back again and told them it IS a problem. will try different acct at library on fast computer before i cancel.

next couple of days; won't work very good at library on fast computer. shut itself off and had to restart numerous times in short time i tried it. information was NOT AS MUCH as i'd already found free on internet!!!

in my mind, may try again. give it a wk. time goes on and NO WAY to give it any more energy...

4/2/08 called to cancel; an email has been sent. print it out, complete it and mail it in. WHY i ask? we have to have your signature!? they didn't to deduct the dollars!?!? checked. no email. waited a few hrs. called back and told the person. oh. our computer is updating. WELL, says I. HOW often does this happen, often? thinking conveniently!? she says no. I ask just do what you said earlier this am. We will I'm told.

12 hrs later; NO email. I wrote an email to netdetective saying (using all nos i'd been given in title with CANCEL). This is NOT good customer service. Since they had taken the dollars out the minute i gave them the card info i expect the dollars to be put back in. SOON. I will contact my attorney and the state attorney general tomorrow.

later 4/2/08 found address for state attorney general and emailed info to him.

4/8/08 email from person at state att general office. download form, complete and send 2 copies to them.

4/9/08 checked bank acct; NO dollars put back in. completed forms, made copies and mailed to state att general. have copy for my attorney.

looking backward & update

1. anyone giving something like this a second thought (to proceed and buy) SHOULD check your web site and/or others to learn about complaints real people have already had. from last night's research i do understand some people are less than honest when making reports. THANKS for all you're doing to alleviate that problem. life is just TOO short for all this mess...

2. i used 'dumb blonde' in jest. when i sent info to my attorney told him to read when he needed a laugh. & yes changed my town cause there may not be another 'dumb blonde' in rural area i am in

3. after reading lots of comments from other people i called vp of bank (who i knew) and told him situation re: debit card i had used. i'm on severly restricted cash flow budget (hence the 'special' 19.95 offer saved me 10. dollars). had to wait for aol 9.95 to be taken out (THE only thing that's taken out automatically; haven't figured out a cheaper whatever or way to do that. yet). vp called next am, aol deducted night before. card is canceled and i'm waiting on new one. i'm guessing i'm NOT the only one this has happened to.

4. if this procedure works to update my orginal report i'll continue. assuming state ag office will do something. i just sent the update added 4/17 to my contact at ag office. seems to me all of us in different states could be most effective by using our state attorney general's offices... wonder HOW many that would be to date?

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Net Detective has been ripping people off for many years

AUTHOR: Nicholas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 17, 2008

I have never purchased the junk that Harris Digital Publishing sells, however, I have done extensive research on the company. I had posted the results as an investigative report on my website. I cited numerous instances of false advertising and deceptive trade practices. Firstly, I listed all of the claims that their program can let you do. Then, I tell people how they can do this on their own for free. Next I expose a couple pieces of information that is deceptive as well:

1.) "Endorsed by the National Association of Independent Private Investigators"

Harris Digital Publishing fails to tell people that this "organization" is owned by Harris Digital Publishing. The website for the NAIPI was www.jeanharris.com (name of the owner of Harris Digital Publishing). Now that domain just points to a generic parked page.

2.) "Relied upon by hundreds of LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES."

As I explained in the article on my website, why on the Earth would law enforcement need to use that junk sold by Harris Digital Publishing? Law enforcement has access to the NCIC (National Crime Information Center).

When I had filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General in 2004, I was basically told that they would keep my information on file and if they received enough complaints they would look in to it. This was a clear example of the Florida Attorney General being lazy. The result? Four years later and this con artist (Harris Digital Publishing) is still in business.

I recently checked the website of Net Detective. They have taken the law enforcement comment down, however, they still have the deceptive boast about being endorsed by the NAIPI. Now they have a section of "With Net Detective you will learn..." One of the things they say you will learn is "How to check out the ETHICS and business practices of businesses worldwide, including those on the Internet." Hrrm, I wonder if they will teach you how to find out that they are an unethical business?

I will be writing to the Florida AG again and find out why they have decided to sit on their hands about this company. In regards to "Dumb blonde"'s comment, you are not dumb. Gullible, yes. Dumb, no.

Since the Florida AG won't do anything and Harris Digital Publishing wants to dangle a carrot in front of you for your money, just do it the easy way. Go to your bank and file a chargeback. If the bank gives you any trouble then remind them that under federal law (Federal Regulation E), they must investigate the matter.

I believe that if more people would simply file a chargeback instead of letting Harris Digital Publishing give them the runaround, then it would be more effective than contacting the AG. After so many chargebacks the company processing credit cards for Harris Digital Publishing will either start charging them more fees and/or they will cancel their merchant account.
