I am not a netspend user, i do however run a convenience store.  With that said i've been running into issues with people using netspend cards.  One issue i have is when a purchase gets declined, netspend tends to still take the money off my customers cards which leads to problems for me at my store.  Thats one occasion where i didnt even want to argue with the customer over a 5$ ticket.  My receipts clearly said declined and when i was with the customer she called the card company and checked the balance over her phone, it said that 5$ was withdrawn.  They are crooks, and the customers have to take to get their money back is ridiculous, they make you ( the customer ) file a claim and you have to fax it in and write a letter of dispute and its clearly a tactic to make the netspend users just give up in frustration.

My biggest issue with them is that they also do this with ATM transactions.  This had happened a few times actually at my store with these netspend cards.  A lady came in yesterday i was here by the way at the store so i witnessed everything and was with the customer trying to get the money back for her while she was on the line with customer service.  So she had 130$ on her account, and she pulls out 100$, the money never comes out and it says declined for insufficient funds.  She starts getting irritated because before  used the atm she checked her balance and it said 130$.  So she tried again and still the same decline for issuficient funds.  Now keep in mind this lady is about to go off on me and i tried my best to diffuse the situation because shes clearly irritated and is starting to sort of blame my atm and my store.  We called customer service together to try and get an explanation and kept asking where her money is.  The customer service agent, just kept telling her she needs to file a claim and fax in the receipts and a written letter in order for her to get her money back. I felt absolutely terrible about the whole ordeal, it is christmas time and this lady needed her money and netspend basically stiffed her and refused to get a supervisor on the phone.  It is absolutely appalling and their business practice is some of the shadiest i've seen.  They are definitely a predatory company that will nickel and dime you every chance they get.  PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS CARD COMPANY, I AM ABOUT TO START REFUSING NETSPEND CARDS HERE AT MY STORE. I hope my report helps.

first of all, my customer came to me and said there was a problem, i addressed it the issue as much as i could, and no i dont watch my customers do their atm transactions, and if there is a problem, You can go ahead and try to deflect the blame but bottom line is you guys have some shady business practices going on, i mean theres 292 complaints and all of them have to do with people missing their money go figure.  And if you want proof, i have copies of all the receipts thankyou very much, so all your points are pretty much invalid.  They had sufficient funds to begin with.  Anyways have a great xmas netspend, im sure you guys are getting filthy rich stealing from your customers.

Business Owner?

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

 So as a "Business Owner"

As a business owner you should already know how a debit card is processed.  When you first run the card only an AUthorization Hold is placed on the card.  So if a card is declined there will still be a "hold" of say the $5.  If the transaction is processed the hold turns into an actual purchase, if it is declined the hold can remain for a period of time.  This all depends on the bank.  From anywhere from a few hours to several days before it "drops off".

NetSpend and similar cards are used by people who can not get a regular account because they have screwed up in the past and probably have a history of very poor credit.

Thats one occasion where i didnt even want to argue with the customer over a 5$ ticket.  My receipts clearly said declined and when i was with the customer she called the card company and checked the balance over
her phone, it said that 5$ was withdrawn.

- So if you are claming that the $5 charge went through you are really saying when this customer attempted to use the card she had a $0 balance.  Umm...yet this is somehow the companies fault?  Of course here is a thought, what if she was already $5 overdrawn?

A lady came in yesterday i was here by the way at the store so i witnessed everything and was with the customer trying to get the money back for her while she was on the line with customer service.  So she
had 130$ on her account, and she pulls out 100$, the money never comes out and it says declined for insufficient funds

- So as a business owner you say you make it a habbit of watching your customers do their ATM transactions?  Is that a NetSpend ATM?  Then please tell me how NetSpend knows that $100 didn't get dispensed?  Oh you can't other than your "word"..and why should a company just believe that the money wasn't dispensed.  If it is an ATM problem..you need to contact the ATM company.  One would think that as a business owner you would know that.  Perhaps if this happens quite offen you should remoe the ATM for causing you problems.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS CARD COMPANY, I AM ABOUT TO START REFUSING NETSPEND CARDS HERE AT MY STORE.

- Or better yet how about posting a sign that says "Before you attempt to use your NetSpend card please verify you have enough available to make your purchase.  If you do not, this business is not responsible for any issues you have."

Of course on the ATM I wonder how you would stop them from using the NetSpend card.  So in that case how about posting a sign that says "If the money does not get dispensed please contact the ATM vendor as this business is not responsible if this ATM does or does not dispense the money you requested".
