The idea behind New Horizons CLC NYC is very simple: Sucker you in, take your money and leave you to the dogs. Whatever happens to you is YOUR business not theirs.

I won't be the first one nor the last to complain about New Horizons CLC NYC as there are countless stories echoing the same familiar themes - broken promises, intentionally deceptive sales tactics, fake "guarantees" and overall disappointment and resentment. I am also writing this on behalf of all the friends from my classes that share the same sentiments but could not voice their experiences.

Before I begin I implore ANYONE with any common sense to RUN don't walk from these places, especially New Horizons CLC. They are an overpriced ripoff. I have seen the people there and heard the stories from other students about them. They only want your money and they do not care about you and will do nothing but pressure you to get that. The classes are below average to mediocre at best, even though I have met some very good instructors. There is simply not enough time, especially when you are a complete beginner, to learn in a such a setting. If your company is paying for it, then go for it, otherwise save your money. I only survived because I had previous experience in IT. For a total beginner, you will be completely lost.

Take it from me, save your money and study with a good book and a lab environment instead. I only wished someone had imparted this knowledge to me before I took the plunge. That being said, let's move on.

I was unemployed during the time between 2001 - 2002 and decided to look into their MCSA-CCNA boot camp program after seeing New Horizons CLC of NYC advertised on the popular job sites with claims of "guaranteed" positions with Fortune 100 companies.

Upon checking it out with a sales rep, he claimed that New Horizons CLC had inside knowledge of and had "open slots" with companies in the area and that candidates were guaranteed placement into a temp to possibly perm position with any of these companies upon successful completion of the boot camp. He even began dropping big name companies (even though I knew they were probably not Fortune 100 companies). Whether or not New Horizons CLC truly had such connections I did not know but he certainly painted the illusion that these guaranteed openings were there for the taking as long I completed everything including the mandatory internship at New Horizons CLC. The possibility of getting my foot in the door of these places seemed enticing enough and coupled with my desperation I decided to enroll. I immediately developed a bad feeling about it and was vehemently denied when I asked to cancel. I couldn't even transfer my enrollment to another student. That's how bad the sales rep wanted to box me in.

The classes, as I've said before, were mediocre at best. There was simply too much material and too little time to cover it all and the instructor read out of the manual for the most part. In essence, I paid a large sum of money to have someone read a book to me - something that I could have done on my own. Reread the second paragraph and you'll see what I mean. The study area or lab if you will was comprised of several very obsolete run-down machines with icons that didn't work.

They also held a job workshop hosted by manager Don Lipari and invited speakers from other branches of New Horizons. You were supplied with a list of contact names, companies and phone numbers with a simple strategy: cold-call. Even the most indifferent students looked at each other because honestly who was going to sit at a phone and do that? It's a very good strategy to get you nowhere. And why tell us to cold-call when you claimed to have these "guaranteed" spots for graduates? The picture began to came together and the truth was evident. New Horizons CLC of NYC really had nothing up its sleeve. It was all smoke and mirrors and we all fell for it. They were a ripoff.

Thanks to my prior IT knowledge and abilities I was able to finish and pass all my courses and exams and the so-called internship. Internship meant you sat around for a week trying your best to apply what you learned to the real-world. Again, of little use and it was New Horizon's miserable attempt at adding credible filler material on your otherwise empty resume. Pathetic.

When it came time to get my "guaranteed" spot with a Fortune 100 company, NOTHING HAPPENED. I asked one of the counselors about it and she told me that the little unsolicited job messages that we received in our email inboxes WERE indeed the "guaranteed" positions. I was shocked. These were little messages that offered no clues other than some salary information and contact info to your local counselor. I remembered they started appearing in my inbox from time to time ever since the beginning of boot camp. THESE were our guaranteed positions??? And why send them at the BEGINNING of boot camp to everyone?? If 50 people got the same job posting and there's only 5 positions, then 45 are out of luck. How is this a "guaranteed" thing? Again, New Horizons clearly demonstrated they had NOTHING up their sleeve.

Something may have happened behind the scenes because soon afterwards I received a frantic call from my sales rep asking if I found New Horizons satisfactory and if I needed their services anymore. I guess they suddenly realized they had abandoned alot of students were scrambling to avoid the flak. I angrily told him that I didn't need them because they didn't do anything for me anyway. I had found a job of my own by that time WITHOUT them. The last known contact I had received was from a headhunter down in Broad St. they had given my name to. After a single interview, she never called me back again.

THIS was the "guaranteed" thing that my sales rep had crowed about. THIS scam was the coveted Holy Grail behind those annoying ads plastered all over the major job sites. After several long grueling months and thousands of my money, New Horizons CLC of Midtown NYC had absolutely NOTHING to show for it. It was a hard lesson learned and it still angers me to this day. To say that I hate them would be an understatement. I only hope this message gets out and saves as many people as possible.

Something may have happened behind the scenes because soon afterwards I received a frantic call from my account rep, Gabi Golan, asking if I found New Horizons satisfactory and if I needed their services anymore. I guess they suddenly realized they had abandoned alot of students were scrambling to avoid the flak. I angrily told him that I didn't need them because they didn't do anything for me anyway. I had found a job of my own by that time WITHOUT them. He wanted me to send a letter of confirmation stating that but needless to stay I did not.

The last known contact I had received was from a headhunter down in Broad St. they had given my name to. After a single interview, she never called me back again.

THIS was the "guaranteed" thing that my stupid account exec had crowed about. THIS scam was the coveted Holy Grail behind those annoying ads plastered all over the major job sites. After several long grueling months and thousands of my money, New Horizons CLC of Midtown NYC had absolutely NOTHING to show for it. They cheated and robbed me.

It was a hard lesson learned and it still angers me to this day. To say that I hate them and wish each and every single one of them cancer would be an understatement. I only hope this message gets out and saves as many people as possible.
