I started with NHCD in the winter of 2002 with high expectations. The recruiter promised me great wages with a wonderful company. I was asked to place a $49, deposit on the phone which I was assured I would receive back in five weeks.

I started in leads, worked very hard and then was also placed into management because of course I wasn't making any money. I went into leads management and worked 40+ hours per week in addition I was expected to attend manditory meetings with the senior managers talking about the same thing time and again, hours I was not paid for. I stayed in leads with lots of harressment from the leads manager and the dept. manager as time when on.

As long as you are making the leads you are okay, they continued to promise I would be making lots of $$$ which I never did. After almost a year, I am stubborn I guess, I was furious, still if I was lucky I might get $100. for a check, my first check was $18. which took more than five weeks to receive. They always came up with an excuse. At that point I had gone to the VP and he told me I might be able to get a hourly pay job with the company in the telephone dept. I was told I had the job, worked one day, and the person in charge, a Georgenne, was supposed to call me with more work, she never did, then when I heard from her I was told I didn't have the job.

Apparently my leads mgr and the leads dept head made such a stink that they took the job away, they didn't want me to have it. At that point I wanted out of leads and was told sales might be better, the pay was better anyway. I was told by the dept. head and my manager that I would have to start all over if I wanted into sales, I refused. This leads mgr, Tanya is no longer with the company and apparently got together with other mgrs and is trying to sue the company.

The lead dept. head a Stephanie Booher must have a connection because she makes money off of everyone on top of getting a very high salary for not doing much. After all I had done all that and was now a manager for close to a year. I finally had to go to the BBB and then the VP contacted me, he promised if I retracted my complaint he would get me into sales. All of a sudden the lead dept. head was on the phone with the wonderful news I would go into sales. I trained and worked hard and finally started getting paychecks and then was of course moved into "management".

No one ever wanted to stay long enough under me, they came and went, all comoplaining they worked and worked and made no money, the leads were terrible, etc. I finally had one rep who stayed and worked as hard as me. About six or eight months into sales, I was working at least 40 hours a week, but there was not too much of a demand to attend meetings. The company decided to raise their Canadian prices at least three times in the coming months and also the plan price.

Our prices were in many cases more than folks were paying at the drug store and Canadian prices are cheaper, a lot cheaper than our Canadian prices. What was once a great selling point was now a struggle to try and convince folks there was a savings. Then the leads went down the tubes and it was difficult getting sales at all. I continued to put in many frustrating hours, then the deductions started slowly and gained momentum till every paycheck there was anywhere from $5 to $60. deducted for chargebacks or manager reversals as they call them.

People have a 45 day money back guarantee, which is okay. But the reasons for the chargebacks did not make any sense in a lot of cases, but our pay is still deducted. I saved every paycheck and report and started noticing I was getting mgr. reversals even though I had only one rep working for me who didn't get many returns. They always came up with some excuse. The straw that broke the camels back is when I noticed the listed manager reversals, which I asked for a report, were for reps who hadn't been with me for four or more months and some had never had any sales or very few.

When I addressed this I never got a straight answer. Alicia Suenaga, who is in charge of taking these things out of our pay, refused to address these items, saying that one rep was mine, which he is, but never stating why money was taken away from me that was not legitimate, for reps who hadn't worked for the company for many months, and when they did they got very few, if any sales.

How could there be reversals on something that didn't exist. I knew in the back of my mind that for a long time it was getting worse and worse and the ripoff was now so blatant they didn't even bother denying it. You work and work and struggle to get a sale from leads that shouldn't be leads in the first place. And then the little money that we are now making is taken from us by the company. These are mostly not legitimate deductions, I understand if someone wanted their money back in the given time, but every week this happens and the only ones making money are the top people.

They say it isn't a pyramind scheme, don't believe it, I denied it a long time, but it took me having them basically take my pay for me to realize that I need to get out.

They started several other ventures, a vitamin program and a beauty item program. The Beauty Item was supposed to be for the employees to buy overpriced things and let them think they were getting a bargain. The vitamin shelf we sales people were supposed to get commissions on, well that was a joke. Most seniors, who this company targets, don't have internet, and the available 800 number is manned by a few of the now top sales managers. You give your customers an id and they are to use it on your linked website or when they call into the 800 number, which is a joke, because the folks answering the line of course use their own id and ignore yours, so these folks are also taking your money.

Complaining did no good because they are in the little group. The sales head is a nice lady who tries to appease everyone but still has to abide by the company if she values her position, which is a paid one, not a commission one. This company basically drains whatever they can out of most of the people to make a few rich and I just hope that someone learns from all of our stories to NOT believe one word and NEVER go to work for this company. They are using people and giving them dreams and in return they take whatever they can from you.

Stay away, their are legitimate jobs out there to work from home, you just have to look. And folks you can get a discount card from Mature RX or Advanced PCS for free online, and you can do Canadian Mail Order without joining anything. The vitamins can be gotten online cheaper than through NHCD, just shop around and don't get taken for a job or to save money.

The reason I am now resorting to this is two-fold, one to warn folks of this company and the other to tell those who have gotten taken in by NHCD that we have no rights, I have contacted the State Attorney General, the Department of Labor to name a few, and they do not have any laws to protect independent contractors. This is something that needs to be addressed. This company is obviously very aware of this and the only alternative is to hire a private attorney if you can find or afford one to take this company to court. Those of us who cannot afford to do this, which is who the company preys on, are the ones who get hurt and cheated. What a shame this is allowed to go on.

entitled to be paid without the company taking my paychecks back over time

To Erin,

You have been with the company 1 1/2 years, that is great. I have been with the company almost three years and have stuck with it, working in access of 40 hours plus per week, weekends included.

I am not a new going to work person, I have had over 35 years work experience. I have a college degree as well and a varied background, with emphasis on medicine and many years in computers and customer service.

I thought as you and doubted those that misaligned the company.
Talk to me sometime down the road when you have the years and experience that I do. I have worked for many legitimate companies that pay you for your work and don't take the money back. I was well aware this job was commision based. Leads was awful and you were working for free, hours and hours, even in management. I went to Sales because of this.

In the beginning for well over a year and a half I made not bad money, though I worked many, many hours. If you figure out the pay for the hours you work, you do the math.

Some weeks if you are lucky you get good leads, and make a great paycheck, but it is not consistent. Yes, it depends on your effort, but that is not all, if the people in leads are not doing their job, your job pays less and gets much harder, and that is what has been happened the last year.

I have no idea what department you are in, if you are one of the lucky few who have managed to ingratiate yourself with one of the top people, you might be making a decent paycheck. Maybe not. It's okay to defend something you believe in, but sometimes one finally has to take the blinders off.

If you put all the hours in you do with NHCD with a company that paid you a regular paycheck without taking the money back, well again, you do the math.

I wish you well, but don't knock those that have been there and know what they are talking about.
Just to let you know my experience, and I sincerely hope it doesn't happen to you.

I have a family and with many years of experience I want to be paid for my work, and am entitled to be paid for it without the company taking my paychecks back over time.

Sorry it didn't work for you

It's unfortunate that people who look for a f/t management position with NHCD don't quite understand that it is just that. It is a f/t position and if you put the effort in, as you would with a job that you would clock into each day, you would reap the rewards. The pay at NHCD is commission based and you knew that when you signed up. You also knew that when you became a manager and advanced within the company. We see all kinds of complaints from people like yourself who expect to sit back and watch the money roll in without doing the work. I have worked with this company for almost 1 1/2 years now and it is the first "REAL" work at home position I have found. People who work with us need to take the time to read the contract and understand that this is not a get rich quick scheme. It is A JOB. If you do the work...you will get the pay you are looking for. Not everyone has the determination and self discipline it requires to work at home and be successful.
