Nick Roth & CO Hairdesigns is owed and managed by Nick Roth in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Nick is a terrible hair stylist. However to his companies' credit he does have good marketing skills. But don't be fooled! The company appears to be a slightly ?upscale? hair salon and its prices reflect this. However it is anything but!

In reality a hair salon is only as good as the people staff it. And frankly put Nick has no business cutting hair. Be it Men's haircut, a women's haircut. Nick will BUTCHER your hair. He has no skills and absolutely no business cutting anyone's hair! The guy is as dense a rock. Listening skills not included.

A little history about Nick Roth & Co. is in order to understand how such a shabby ?hair cutter? and ?business owner? came about. Nick is an old school and longtime West LA spoiled brat. He received his business from the hard work of his father. Like most spoiled business heirs living in rich West Los Angeles, he received his business without doing hardly anything. Nick is just another dysfunctional rich ?kid? living off the good graces his fathers business. Every day he is soaking up and ruining what's left of the salons reputation.

Frankly put. The guy is lazy and is running his business into the ground. Nick Roth & CO Hairdesigns used to have a fantastic reputation. However ever since this spoiled lay-about (who needs a haircut himself) took the helm business has gone down the sink and customers are fewer.

I personally received a butchering at the hands of Nick. I had to appear at a keynote function in Manhattan Beach and introduce a speaker with the WORST haircut I've ever received. Period. All for the outrageous price of $35.00. It was quite embarrassing.

I've told some about 25 (or so) people about this. Come to find out, several other people, including my neighbor across the street, have had their hair destroyed by this idiot! Call me shallow call me vain - but I want my hair to look good. And if you want your hair to look good too ? then AVOID NICK ROTH & CO ?hairdesigns? at ALL COSTS!

Nick would be better off hiring a couple of new hairdressers that just graduated from beauty school yesterday and paying them $10/hr than doing this himself. Just like an artist. Some people have got the gift. And some people do not. Nick doesn't.

Do not trust your hair cut to this poser! Do not risk your appearance to this butcher!

Great Salon!

AUTHOR: DougD - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Since this complaint comes up at the top when you google "Nick Roth Hair Design", I must respond:

This complaint makes absolutely no sense.  I've been going there for about 8 years and I've never seen anyone unhappy with anybody's service.  In fact, this is the first time I've been loyal to any place.

I'm sure people could have a bad experience anywhere for any number of reasons, but there's no doubt in my mind that Nick would find a way to make things right.  He's a fun guy, but he's also a professional.

Anyway, I was trying to look up the store's phone number 'cause I need what is probably my 100th haircut there, and felt the need to respond to this nonsense.

Nick's great!

Two words...satisfied client.

AUTHOR: Sarah - (Virgin Islands (US))

POSTED: Monday, March 15, 2010

I came across this report as I was googling Nick Roth Salon's number to schedule (yet another) appointment.  Wow.  And WHAT?????

To be fair, I can't comment on "Michael's" experience because it is his alone, not mine.  It's just too bad that he didn't have the ability to express his dissatisfaction to Nick's face back in 2006...hard to imagine, since Nick is one of the most approachable and humble stylists I've ever encountered. I became a client several years ago after a friend referred me to his salon, and have been a loyal client ever since.  I've also referred several of my friends to Nick, and have always left his salon feeling like my satisfaction with his cut and or color work was his top priority.

As a client, I don't particularly know (or need to know) about Nick's upbringing, family or personal affairs; it is none of my business and I'm too busy to do as much research as the individual who filed his complaint.  I just know that Nick is the first stylist I've ever found that has left me happy with BOTH cut and color EVERY time I've left his salon.  And as a 45 year old, that's a long list of stylists against whom I feel I can make a qualified comparison.

Simply put, I am happy to count myself among Nick's long list of clientele who are pleased with their hairstyling experience at Nick Roth Salon.  And I can't wait for my next appointment, because I always leave the salon feeling like a million bucks!

Nick Roth Hair Designs is fantastic

AUTHOR: jinx - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 03, 2010

I have been having my hair cut by Nick Roth for over 20 years and will not allow anyone but Nick to cut my hair, ever.

I was appalled to read the original writer's complaints which I deem to be totally false.  Perhaps the writer stands on street corners with a sign asking for handouts and has a hard time collecting the $35 for a haircut.  Maybe that is the reason for the tirade.

Or perhaps the reason is that "Michael" is just jealous.  You think Nick was given a business and a townhouse by his father and then became lazy and useless after he took over.  I've got news for you, oh man o' envy.  Drop by his salon morning or evening 6 days a week, and chances are you will find Nick inside, styling hair.  Or he might be inside playing his guitar, waiting for walk-ins or someone who's running late.  But more likely than not, Nick will be there.  You said you own your own business.  I bet even you don't work 6 days a week on your corner.

How dare you try to spoil the reputation of this hard working man who is an exquisite hair dresser.

You accused Nick of nepotism.  You don't even know the meaning of the word.  Nepotism is favoritism granted to relatives or friends, without regard to their merit.  Nick earned the right to work for his father after attending beauty school and earning his license.

You describe Nick's then-wife as being stunning.  You fault him for owning a townhouse in the expensive community of Hermosa Beach.  You decry him for being rich and having everything handed to him.  Twice, you refer to his stunning wife.  You accuse him of being a rich kid.  It's a shame that your report, written purely out of jealousy, was allowed to stay on this site.  It was written 4 years ago, so by now, you're even more more eaten up with hate and anger and jealousy and are more pathetic than you were in 2006.  I pity you.

The only wise move you made when posting this complaint was to post it anonymously.  That way, you couldn't be sued for defamation of character.  Actually, you could, but I'm sure Nick doesn't want to waste his time with someone like you who has an agenda.  That became apparent in your second post.  People see right through you, "Michael".

Professional, Talented, and Down to Earth

AUTHOR: Pearl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 23, 2008

I believe that Nick Roth is a very successful and talented man. He is down to earth, very sincere and has a huge passion for music, especially classical. If he was a so-called terrible hair stylist, his empire, Nick Roth & Co. would no longer exist today... nearly three decades later.

I think that every business has to have a stand out marketing scheme, however, whether the company becomes successful or not; it soley depends on the services provided. I feel as though the salon is more than slightly upscale, the people are friendly and its great location in the heart of Manhattan Beach just minutes from the ocean. In turn, the rewards are having the most fabulous hairstyle and being able to meet up a friend for lunch down by the beach afterwards.

The staff at Nick Roth & Co. are very talented and bare lots of experience as does Nick. I have seen first hand both Men's and Women's haircuts performed by Nick and I think that they look phenomenal. In the hair industry, hairstyles are constantly changing and with nearly thirty years of experience, Nick has definitely kept up by giving endless amounts of fashionable hairstyles offered today.

I think that 'Michael' may be a little resentful that he isn't as successful as Nick. I think hard work must run in the Roth family presuming not only him and his father are hard workers but as well as his brother Tim, who owns an appraising company which generates large amounts of revenue every year.

If Nick was doing hardly anything, and was not a stand out, there would be no reason for him to have any clients today. Obviously people love the performance and experience they get from his salon and that is why they return.

Nick Roth is the sole owner of Nick Roth & Co. and if he were lazy, he would never be at work nor keep an appointment book simply because he is the owner and he could just staff others to perform haircuts for him. But it is because he is hard working and passionate about his work, he is there to give haircuts everyday right alongside his staff, that proves he is not 'lazy.'

In Regards to:
"I personally received a butchering at the hands of Nick. I had to appear at a keynote function in Manhattan Beach and introduce a speaker with the WORST haircut I've ever received. Period. All for the outrageous price of $35.00. It was quite embarrassing."

Michael, I wonder if you know what a mirror is, and if you ever look into one because I am certain there are plenty of mirrors in the salon, and if your hair was so 'butchered' as you pleasantly rave about it, then why didn't you have it fixed before you allegedy had to attend such an important function. Appearance matters in the professional world, a freshman in high school even knows that. In this case, I think you only embarassed yourself for not communicating your wants and needs.

If so many people have claimed to receive such miserable haircuts, then why are 'YOU' the only person trying to badger the reputation of Nick Roth & Co? Each time trying to defer people with negavtive comments about the salon, seems like you might be holding on to a more personal grudge.

For a person who has only receieved one hair cut from Nick he sure does know alot about Nick's history, quite odd. Times today were not like in the past, the economy goes up and down, things used to not cost as much, therefore it was very likely that Nick was able to do this on his own.

Everyone knows that in the olden days, which was not too long ago, it was the man's job to provide for his family. Obviously Nick fell in love young, and married a beautiful woman and had two lovely kids. Success at a young age comes still has a price; the cost was to work extra hard to ensure he could provide his family with a comfortable lifestyle.

He has two wonderful children who love him dearly and can come to him for advice about anything, the salon has also become a close part of their lives. Personally, they are very respectful and know that in order to get what you want in life, you have to put in the time and effort.

If you are bitter Mr. Michael, I don't think you should take it out on other people and their businesses. I personally think that Nick Roth is a very genuine person and a successful business owner. He is very relaxed and is not here to judge anyone. In addition, he is great father to his kids; teaching them both respect and good work ethics which will eventually make them into successful people someday.

Update to original report

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 08, 2008

I would like to respond to the "rebuttal's" from this company. First, please note, they are strictly from the owner and his employees.

First I would like to respond to "Amanda's" comment:

"Nick Roth bought out his father's partner 25 years ago, and he purchases the hair salon from his father as well (Mike Roth)" "At the age of 23 Nick had two kids, owned a 3 story duplex town-home in hermosa beach and was Married to Julie Roth, Still- one of the most stunning women in the South Bay area"

- Lets do some basic Math here. Mr. Roth is 47 years old. That would make Mr. Roth 22 years old at the time he allegedly bought out his fathers partner. 22 years old with a high school education and beauticians license, married, with two kids or at least one kid and another on the way. Common sense and logic dictates that a person in this economic situation does NOT "buy out" a successful business straddled with 2 kids and a "stunning" wife (remember it's all about the money in LA) and own a 3 story town-home in Hermosa beach, one of the most expensive places to live in Los Angeles; all on his own efforts at the age of 22. This is just common sense. Make no mistake about it. This is NEPOTISM pure and simple. This guy was coddled by his dad from an early age. He did not go to college. He was doctored into the family business and paid accordingly. His dad then purchased the business and essentially gave it to him. Same thing goes for his 3 story "starter" home (he had a hand in this as well). I know this from living here, and becuase this is how things generally work in this tight knit well to do community.

Aside from that. I know people in the community who know of this guy. How else do you think I found out? I'll tell you how. By complaining to every person I talked to about my bad hair cut. How do you think I got this information? 8) Word of mouth. It's a small community.

"Could it be that Michael wants in on Nick Roth's world?"

-Interesting. Well. Lets see. If "Nick Roths World" includes having everything handed to me from my fathers efforts rather than having to actually work for it myself, starting from nothing, as many successful business people are forced to do, then I would probably say "yes" even though clearly this does not build character and discipline. A simple look around the South Bay/ West Los Angeles area, at all these dysfunctional rich kids will attest to that. However do Nicks credit at least he IS running a business and even better - is still in business. There is definitely somthing to be said of that. Many of these grown up "kids" in the community are doing, well, pretty much nothing. So by a South Bay/West Los Angeles neponomics standard, I would say that he is doing pretty well.

(end of response #1)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

(Response #2)

Next I will respond to the owner Nick Roth's comment:

"I was never confronted with a complaint about a bad haircut"

-Come on now. Even the best stylists in the world are confronted with dissatisfied customers and complaints. Common sense will tell you this statement is not true.

"These two issues alone, along with the report's personal attacks on me, lead me to believe that this complaint is not legitimate and may be part of some other vindictive agenda rather than an actual business complaint."

- Incorrect. This was a complaint about your service. I would have no reason to waste my time on here otherwise. I had to introduce an important speaker in Manhattan Beach at an event in front of many potential clients with the WORST haircut I have ever received. How embarrassing. Thank goodness I did not receive a color job. I was promoted to write the report after meeting other past customers who were dissatisfied with the service. I thought, why is there nothing on the Internet about this guy?

"I have a salon policy that if anyone is dissatisfied with their haircut or color, we will fix it at no cost to the client. So Michael, if you actually did get a haircut from me and if you would like to come in for a refund, maybe I will recall who you are once I see you and I will gladly refund you."

-This lip service is baseless. You should have refunded me AT THE TIME THE DISSATISFACTION OCCURED. I own a business and let me tell you - I take strict personal responsibility. Things occur with customers in all businesses. And when a customer is dissatisfied - I flat out refuse to accept his money AND work with them to correct the issue. That is the standard I hold myself up to. Next time, I suggest you do the same. Because if you would have gone to college, you would know that every dissatisfied customer tells and AVERAGE of 10 (ten) people about thier bad experience whereas every satisfied customer only tells an average of 1-2 people about thier positive experience. Perhaps you may want to take this into consideration. Thank you.

#3 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Nick's response

AUTHOR: Nick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 23, 2008

I would like to point out to anyone who reads the report filed by Michael, and may be alarmed by his scathing review of me, Nick Roth that the facts are wrong and I was never confronted with a complaint about a bad haircut. These two issues alone, along with the report's personal attacks on me, lead me to believe that this complaint is not legitimate and may be part of some other vindictive agenda rather than an actual business complaint.
It is interesting how much background investigation of me is in this report, yet the facts are wrong. I did not grow up in West L.A. as Michael claims, and I did not inherit my father's business as he writes. I grew up in the South Bay and went to beauty school when I was 18 years old after graduating from Mira Costa High School. I received my beautician's license one year later, all the while working for my father in the salon and learning the trade from him. After working endless hours in the salon, I saved my money and bought out his partner in 1981, and at this point I was co-owner of the salon with my father. I assumed full ownership in 1983.
I do not do drugs, as Michael claims and if I did give a bad haircut, I never heard anything about it until this somewhat anonymous on-line complaint was filed and was recently brought to my attention by one of my clients.
I have a salon policy that if anyone is dissatisfied with their haircut or color, we will fix it at no cost to the client. So Michael, if you actually did get a haircut from me and if you would like to come in for a refund, maybe I will recall who you are once I see you and I will gladly refund you.
Many of my clients have been coming into the salon for over 20 years and are very happy with their hair and experience in the salon. It is my goal and the salon's mission to provide the absolute best in hairstyling to every client in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
Nick Roth

P.S. Question the validity of Rip-off Report. This is what Wikipedia said about the on-line company: The site cannot not differentiate between documented incidents of bad business and empty claims by the consumer. Ironically, users have come to see Rip off Report itself as a ripoff! Businesses can pay to have a negative report removed, otherwise, they are stuck with it. Several "Rip Offs" have been revealed to be 100% fiction. Furthermore, the site has been used by competitors to damage the reputation of rivals.

Nick Roth The Handsome, Straight hairdresser in Manhattan Beach

AUTHOR: Amanda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 22, 2008

To whomever Mike is, and to whom it may concern, a little history on Nick Roth himself (since it seems Michael has misinformed the public)

- Nick Roth bought out his father's partner 25 years ago, and he purchases the hair salon from his father as well (Mike Roth)
-Many people know who Mike Roth Know the entire Roth Family- and if you do, you know Mike Roth did anything but spoil his children.
-At the age of 23 Nick had two kids, owned a 3 story duplex townhome in hermosa beach and was Married to Julie Roth, Still- one of the most stunning women in the South Bay area.

Nick Roth is an artist, and he has more bussiness then he knows what to do with. Ive worked for him for over 6 years, and I would say that most of his male clients consider Nick Roth one of their best friends. Theres a group of men that come in to get their hair cut almost everyother week, and we call this group the boys club. The boy's club includes some of the wealthiest, most successful middle aged men in Manhattan Beach, Nick Roth is respected by all these men.

And the Women adore him, because he's handsome, he does great hair and he's straight.

Could it be that Michael wants in on Nick Roth's world?
Who wouldnt? Nick Roth doesn't sit in an office building all day going bald. Infact, Nick is 47, in Model Esque shape, with a tan like a god, a full head of hair with not one gray. He's a master hair dresser and guitar player, considered a legend in the Area of Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo.

Michael, come in for another haircut from Nick, and ask for Mandy while you're sitting in the chair.

-Mandy

Nick Roth is a Fabulous Hairstylist!

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 30, 2008

Nick Roth is one of the south bay's best hairstylists! He keeps a very busy appointment book and recieves praise for his work on a daily basis. Anyone who came in only once and had an unpleasant experience could most likely chaulk it up to a lapse in communitcation. Many people expect a haristylist to read their minds and come up with the perfect model-esque hair cut for them at a supercuts price. Sadly, these people go from hairstrylist to hairstylist dissapointed. They even write malicious reviews in an attempt to hurt a business. Nick does excellent work at great prices and I urge 'Michael' to come back again for a cut on the house. This time I would urge him to be more descriptive and verbal about what kind of cut he wants. Keep making people look beautiful Nick, as you always have done!
