North Star Mechanical is a Contractor who does not have actual employees. Everyone who works for them is sub contracted from office management to dispatchers to service technicians. They work with several home warranty companies to include Old Republic, First American, Total Protect, One Guard and more. In order to be a service provider for these home warranties you must be licensed, bonded and insured and have general liability ins. and worker's compensation. Sub contractors for North Star Mechanical must have that as well, which none of them do. It was initially obtained to gain a contract with these home warranties but is no longer valid since they are already onboard with them. What this means as a home owner is that the company will not be responsible for damages to your home while repairs are being made. If you are looking to work for this company beware of what they ask you to sign. They make you sign an employee packet but you are a subcontractor so that's illegal. There is no agreement contract between you (the subcontractor) and the company (contractor). They do not specify for the reason that that want to treat you like an employee but you're not. So if you have worked there and are "terminated" which is a term they can use only if you are an employee, that is wrongful termination along with several other violations they have committed. They charge people for permits to perform work and do not always pull them for that city and address. They also do not have a sales tax permit which means when they quote you, you should ask what the cost of the equipment is and what their labor rate is and how long it will take them. they will not be able to provide that information because there is not set in stone chart. they will be quick to produce some numbers for you really fast. Believe that. But charging people $6000 + and not be able to justify how they came up with that number ? Does that sound like a company you can trust?. Most of their subcontractors have criminal records from assaults to theft and drug related charges. This includes the service managers as well. Reports will be filed with the home warranties as well. Ask questions and ask for license verification, insurance ...whatever you need before you let this company in your home. Are yo usafe knowing that your home warranty has let such an unprotected company in your home? Please do your homework.
