Northern Tool + Equipment Sold returned fireplace that was originally sold for $299.99 for $399.99 Greenville South Carolina

On October 21, 2008, my husband and I went to Northern Tool + Supply in Greenville, SC to look at electric fireplaces. We could not find any in the store so my husband asked an employee. He told us that they had one fireplace that a customer had ordered several months ago and then cancelled the order. It was in the back, so he offered to let us look at it.

We looked at the fireplace and agreed to purchase it. It was "on sale" for $399.99. The price seemed a little high for a fireplace that had been returned, so my husband asked for a discount. The manager assured us that they could "put it on the sales floor tomorrow and it would be gone in an instant at that price."

When we got the fireplace home, we found the original purchase order in the box. Imagine our suprise when we look at it and find out that the man who purchased it in March 2008 paid $299.99. My husband called him and he told us that he had bought it, then changed his mind. He also confirmed that he'd paid $299.99 + tax for the fireplace that was now in our possession.

I called Northern Tool + Equipment and explained that I didn't think I should have been forced to pay $399.99 for a fireplace that had already been sold once before for $299.99. I could understand it if he'd bought it on sale and kept his and I bought a different one and mine cost more. However, that is not the case. I have the fireplace the original customer SPECIAL ORDERED and then cancelled.

The store manager told us that "there's nothing we can do" about giving us the $100 credit we asked for. She also said she'd called her regional manager and he had said the same. My husband called Northern Tool + Equipment Worldwide Headquarters and was told it was up to the individual store whether we received the credit.

Northern Tool + Equipment offices need to get their lies straight. The local store says the regional manager says no; the regional manager says Corporate says no; Corporate says its up the the local store!

We will NEVER purchase anything from Northern Tool + Equipment ever again. They lure you in with offers of "low prices," then take advantage of you. Tell your friends and family to avoid getting cheated, stay away from Northern Tool + Equipment.
