I fell for the phone scam about two years ago. I agreed to Entertainment Weekly for two months free. After that it was charged to my credit card every year. I can't stop it in spite of several phone calls and letters. I finally cancelled my subscription through the EW website today. So far, I have not been able to find an online outlet for NSS Synapse Group, Inc.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

The way to fix this! It worked for me ..contacting these rip off guru's

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 12, 2003

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hope this helps you as it helped me. I head a hell of time finding information on contacting these rip off guru's, and my bank, the VISA company and most everywhere else couldn't help me. It was only after reading post after post and trying every number I found listed that I finally hit gold.

The Phone number - 1-800-799-9939 works as of 11 June 2003
The Fax number - 1-845-566-6157 works as of 11 June 2003

Here is what I did, I first faxed to the number above the following verbage -

------------
My name is (name). On my current Visa Card Charge account I show the following charges for magazines I neither receive nor have asked you to order or renew:

6/4/2003 6/4/2003 NSS*I3LJ81*R SCUBADIVE 800-920-3667 CT 24692164V006DG8R7 $21.98
6/4/2003 6/4/2003 NSS*WX04KL*PLAYBOY MAG 800-920-3667 CT 24692164V006DG8S8 $29.97
6/5/2003 6/5/2003 NSS*I3LJ81*SHAPE MAG 800-920-3667 CT 24692164W0087H99Z $19.97

The total amounts to $71.92 which your have currently held against my Visa Charge Card but that has not yet been posted. I demand that you remove the hold on these funds, cancel any subscriptions you have placed for against me, and do not charge my account again or I will be forced to obtain legal help in this matter. I have already consulted my lawyer in this and am prepared to go the long route in the attempt to receive my monies. I am sure if I consult past statements I will find your firm charging me time and again for these magazines which I do not receive, I do not intend to do this as long as you remove the above charges from my account. I have filed a dispute with my VISA Service Center and will continue on that path also if I do not see action on this from your firm. I recommend we work together on this and you remove me from your database at once. I intend to contact said venders also if I do not see action on this account. I also request acknowledgement that you have received this fax. You can fax me at the number shown on the receive receipt on your side or you can email me at (email) or you can reach me via phone at (phone).

Please do not delay in processing this action as quickly as possible. If you require my Visa Account number then I request that you call me at (phone).

Thanks for your time and your timely action,

(name)
-------------------------

I then waited a period of 4 hours and called the working 800 number shown above. A polite gentleman answered and said only "Customer Service", I asked if this was the NSS Magazine Service Center, he said yes it was. I then went throught the same verbage as in my fax. He asked for my name, the magazines by title subscribe/billed to and the shipping address for the magazines. He then explained that they had rec'vd my fax and cancelled said subscriptions, removed me from their re-occuring database and that my VISA card would be fully credited within 72 hours. I thanked him very poilitely as he was very friendly and helpful and said bye. Today is 12 June 2003, I am still waiting for the credit to hit, but my VISA department has stated that the credit for said funds request has been submitted by the firm NSS.

I hope this works for all those that are also having problems with this, and I request that it be forwarded far and wide as I have posted this 30 times already on sites where I had looked for help.

Remember - the phone number when answered did not identify the company, I had to ask, and the fax also recieves as anonymous.

Good luck and go get your money back,

Sincerely,
