I rented a small unit at Oasis Suites, and immediately upon entering the unit I noticed dead roaches on the cabinet. The place I later found out was infested with roaches. I could not wait to move even though I had just rented the place. I needed something really cheap so that I could regroup financially.
For the duration of the year that I resided at Oasis Suites I was charged late fees for making late rent payments. Of which I had no problem paying but they were often really high and several months later I found out that I was being overcharged. A few months before my lease ended, I received a notice of a late payment. I noticed these notices were plastered on just about everyone's door. I looked at my payment receipt and noticed my payment was paid on time.
I confronted management by phone, and they would not take the two minutes to even listen. So I requested my tenant ledger. After reviewing the ledger, I realized I had been overcharged excessively. They would charge me on the 2nd for being late but the lease clearly stated I would be charged after the 3rd.
After approaching the manager, Dana with the situation. I was rudely talked over and my complaint was disregarded. She waltzed and said to the assistant manager, take care of the current month's overcharge. No apologies, nothing. She didn't even make eye contact.
After spending a few months trying to get all my overcharges credited by sending letters along with my rental payments she reversed a few of the fees but not all. My lease ended in July and I told her in June when I made that month's payment that if those fees were not credited that I would deduct them from July's rent ($108). The company did not accept my check and filed an eviction.
We went to court and I presented the ledger and other docs to substantiate my defense. The eviction was denied. I left in July which was the end of my lease. In retaliation Oasis Suites has put a claim on my credit report for a sum due around $2500 so that I would not be able to rent from anywhere else. This amount is completely absurd and I have all my documentation referring to the lease etc., This was clearly done in retaliation!
