This site boasts of trying to inform the public about fake signs. They sabotage peoples E-Bay sales by accusing sellers that the items they are selling are not authentic and or real. They claim they are doing this to "keep the public informed". We believe they are doing this to increase the value of their collectables and to sell their collectables by cornering the market. They claim that this item and that item are not authentic and police the internet in what they purport to be a just cause. Through trickery and deception they advise potential buyers and collectors that items are not authentic and not real in an effort to stave off potential buyers so they can keep their collectables at a more valued price and to sneak in and buy collectables at a cheaper price by telling others that these collectables are not real. BEWARE of these people! They tell you something is fake and not real and then turn around and buy the item themselves. They are operating a secret underground scam that MUST BE EXPOSED for what it is!

I was recently banned by oldgas for not conforming to there ways,mostly I didn't like the old guys complaining about the newbies posting more common items,well I'm not made of money as they are,so I contacted jim potts,what a waste of air space!I asked that all of my posts be deleted,then he started questioning me why...just delete them,well he got all bent out of shape and didn't delete them,but banned me ,said he was so busy and that I insulted him!,oh well,I guess you shouldn't have opinions if you are young and a member of oldgas.they give this hobby a bad name!Don't bother these old coots and maybe one day the site domain will be up for sale!

Just read about him on no other than OLDGAS. Here is the seller agentsteel53 with one of his high priced repops, item 270754451955 for $2366. He advertises it on ebay and Oldgas and they move it to the reproduction section. When caught, he dances and admits making exact copies of Route 66 signs but he says he will stamp them as repops from now on _(Haha)____ after he gets a die stamp made___ (damnfunny since he has said that a few other times on Oldgas before) sounding like the typical used car salesman Mr Niceguy?? And then___GET THIS___ they comment how considerate he is and then ___THANK HIM FOR IT!!___ DOH!
So be sure you sell all your fakes on OLDGAS but tell them you are going to mark it as a replica next time, and it will be OK with all of them. YOU CAN MAKE THEM BUT BE SURE AND MARK ALL THOSE FAKES>>>or at least PROMISE YOU WILL.

All these OLDGAS members are grown up retired auto mechanics or gas pumpers from that time period that have a 7th grade education at best.

You sure like evading the issue. It is clear, plain and simple. I don't know or care about some purported isolated incident about a non licensed gas globe. The real deal is on OLDGAS.com right now. Blatant illegal copyright infringement supported and backed by paid advertising to OLDGAS.com. Also, as I stated before the only people who praise the site are members. All and all everyone who posts any thread within the forum that puts your members in a bad light are booted off the site and called troublemakers. Their IP address is blocked. Kind of like: It's my basketball and if I can't play I'm takin' my ball home! GEEEEZ! My post herein is not the only negative post. Deletion of threads by the forum monitor and site owner, links selling illegal signs on the site and other people with the same complaints. It is what it is. "Whatever"....Great information! Man you have a huge chip on your shoulder for some reason. I wish I knew what post got deleted or banned so I could read it and then post here, because im sure you did something wrong. I have met the owner of the site and he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He truly has the best intrest of the hobby at heart. If he didnt he would just shut the site down. It is not some hillbilly hee haw group as you say, its just a bunch of people trying to keep some tradition alive and not be ruined by unmarked fakes. To me it has nothing to do about holding its value I dont buy this stuff for a retirement fund I but it and collect for fun, my kids can sale it when I die. As for your comment on these companies selling unlicensed fakes you are wrong. Go to the sites and read here is what scottys garage says. "Our licensing agreements assure you of legally approved classic reproductions". What else needs to be said. If you have a beef go to ebay and look at some of those fakes being sold as vintage or authenic that do not have licenses to reproduce those signs and when you ask they ignore the question. I can also remember some time ago that some guys were wanting a globe reproduced they asked a guy from old gas he said if he could get the licensing from the company he would do it. Six months later no globe why because no license and he does not want to get his company in trouble. Most of the people on oldgas are hard working middle class americans who love this hobby maybe you should try and remember why you got in this hobby. Are you doing to make money and rip people off or for the love of the hobby. Im not trying to call you out, but you threw the first punch and are still swinging. I am done with this as I no you will still be saying the same thing this is why I dont normally respond to these things. But i have said my peace so good luck to you and I hope you start loving this hobby again as you have lost it somewhere along the way.

The "Consumer Comments" posted on this Ripoffreport, numbers: 1: Owner of company, 2 E-Bay seller, 4: The Boss Canby, 8: Rob, 11:"Collector", 12: "Collector" repeating the same bulltinkle, 13: Tokhiem and 16: "A38" are ALL members of this Back door, Billy Bob, Hee Haw, Chain smokin', Silly Guessin, Steal buying heebillie clan of OLDGAS.com Scammers! Every one of these members that have responded to this Ripoffreport are trying their best to abate and defer the long lost virginity of this prosituted & whored out unlicensed re-poppin' sign sellers OLDGAS.COM website.
The other posts are not members at all. I know of at least 17 different peoiple that have posted complaints and threads on OLDGAS.COM that the owner of the site deemed unsuitable and unfavorable conversation on the talk forum. They don't like what is said, they simply delete all of it and ban the person from the site. Anything posted on the forum of this site that these members don't like or don't agree with is completely deleted from the site. An open forum should be an open forum. UNLESS they choose to delete any and all threads, complaints and critics of the site's methods, character and opinions. They ban anyone they don't like. They ban anyone that says anything that puts themselves or their members in question.
As for the last post stating that the signs listed through the OLDGAS.COM links are all licensed is an outright lie. You see, these po' dunk Billy Bob poo tangs have absolutely NO resources to complete the vast legal paperwork, applications and royalties with the huge conglomerates such as Chevrolet, Ford, Harley Davidson, Shell, Marathon, Chrysler and many others. These Corporations DO NOT grant permission to every BILLY BOB that wants to use their logo and indicia. So, you can bank that the majority of these reproductions are NOT LEGAL!
These "members" are accusing everybody and everyone of having something to hide. Who really has something to hide when they delete every negative thread off their site. They block all IP addresses that they deem troublemakers.
There is certainly another pattern developing here too. OLDGAS.COM's Billy Bob's and Bobby Joe's have all rallied the Clan together to post threads defending themselves on this Ripoffreport. EVERY SINGLE defensive consumer comment listed on this report is from a member of the site.

let me start by saying I normally do not get involved in these things but a lot of what is being written is way off. First off Tim you are saying that all these sites that pay old gas to be on the site are selling illegal unlicensed signs right on the site! Maybe you should research a little before you make comments like that. The Pump Dump does not sale reproduction parts he sales original pump parts from the actual pump. Gasnshakers does not fabricate or sell anything. He is a collector who is showing his collection of salt and pepper shakers. As for the others I have bought reproduction parts and signs for my pumps from them. All have been marked that say reproduction or have a date stamped on them. They also have permission to reproduce said products or they would not do it. I have never had a bad dealing on oldgas and for the most part if you ask for help on the site people will give it to you. They will also contact you if something shows up that they no you want. My wife herself has said to me she can not believe the amount of trust that go's on between the collectors. I have been sent home with globes or signs and told just pay me whenever and i have done the same. No banks no credit checks just some collectors trying to help other collectors. So maybe the people who are having problems on the site are the one's trying to sell there FAKE SIGNS.

Again I must ask all concerned to sit down and listen to what one consumer phrased as the chain smoking, beer drinking, silly guessing stealbuyers opinions on OLDGAS.com. You will definately see a developed pattern of behavior of which is suspect at best. They are constantly accusing others of faking AND reproducing signs. Some on these signs may be fake, some certainly are not. The illegal reproduction of coyrighted signs are in full bloom throiughout this site. Listed in the subsequent paragraph you will see again the linked sites that are breaking the law. These links are supported and sponsored by OLDGAS.com. These illigal sign makers pay OLDGSAS.com to list their illegal reproduction signs. I for one will be reporting these copyright infringements to the various companies listed.
There are several sites linked to OLDGAS.com that pay OLDGAS.com to advertise and sell illegal and unlicensed signs right on the site! Links to memebrs that represent company's that call themselves The Pump Dump, Park Drive Garage, Gas Pump Heaven, Scotty's Garage, Time Passages Limited, and Gas Shakers DOT com are fabricating and making reproduction signs and gas globes with Corvette, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Pontiac, Harley Davidson, Penzoil, Mustang, Texaco, Clark, Shell, Moon Eyes, Standard Oil and many, many more. These are certainly NOT licensed signs. This is blatant copyright infringement! How on earth can these people represent that they are advisors for the collector against reproductions and they make these same illegal reproductions?

I have been a member of oldgas for a long time and there is not a mass conspiracy to lower the prices. That is as asinine assumption, as most of the collectors want to see the prices go higher and higher. What is ruining the hobby are the people selling fakes. It is just like what happened to confederate war items; they have been faked so much to the point even the real items aren't worth as much because people are too scared to buy, in fear it is a fake. People that sell the fakes on EBay are doing the same thing to the historical sign hobby. Oldgas is trying to save the market not keep the values low.

I have been a collector of petro memorabilia for over 30 years and have been scammed in the past by sellers that claim their items are authentic, when in fact they are fakes. Some of the people may or may not know what they are selling is a fake but many do and are intentially trying to "scam" an unsuspecting or trusting buyer. eBay is a great place for these types of people to prey on the trusting people. You do not get to see the person you are dealing with to watch how they act and most importantly you do not get to hold and examine the item in question. While I agree that not everyone on Oldgas.com may be on the up and up most of the members are.
From what I have read on oldgas.com the issue isn't so much with the reproduction signs as it is with the true fakes that are not claimed to be reproductions and not marked or dated in a way to make it obvious it is a reproduction. There is a huge difference between a reproduction and a fake. A fake is something a person makes to intend to pass it off as the real deal as where a reproduction is just that; a reproduction of an item and marked / marketed as such.
Your story about being scammed by an oldgas member and having a sign bought out from under you may be true; however, if you disclosed where the item was then that was your own fault. If you are asking an opinion on an item there is no reason for you to disclose the items whereabouts or even auction number if you just post pics.
I am thankful for Oldgas and the others out there that help try to keep this great hobby alive and safe from people who try to scam the uneducated and trusting people out there. You see, there are several sites linked to OLDGAS.com that pay OLDGAS.com to advertise and sell illegal and unlicensed signs right on the site! It is obvious that there must me significant substance to the original report as there are others that have added responses about OLDGAS.com. I had no idea that there were a bunch of pony tailed, beer drinking hippies guessing and accusing to stealbuy collectables. It sure mirrors my experience. Also, the previous post was RIGHT! This site that proclaims to protect people from repops and reproductions has several links and advertisers selling non licensed signs and gas globes right on the OLDGAS.com site! Hipocracy at it's finest. DOUBLE SHEEEEEEEESH!

I wouldnt doubt your story, but please, give the item# where this oldgas gave you comments to delude you so they could get a cheaper bid price. ebay is full of scams EBAY ITSELF is a scam. I had my laptop stolen with car in california. I found a seller with the same model that just happed to be missing the power cord(mine was left in motel room) tbay put me through so much stuff to get it stopped .they know that no police department would bither with a form that they want filled out first.

ebay has no reason not to ask for serial #s on electronic goods. they would not tell me whythey dont demand such information. any hawkshop has to report with police yet ebay doesnt?

From what I have read, these Sign Experts of Identification and Age are a dozen of beer drinkin' chainsmokers with ponytails making silly guesses most of the time. Their expertise lie in stalking the for sale ads for old signs to be advertised so they can be the first to try and stealbuy it.
Seriously Am I the only one to notice the entire Oldgas website is full of banners and ads from various Websites that sell repop unlicensed everything??
Good ole boy Oldgas owner Jim Potts allow dealers, members to sell and peddle more unlicensed fake merchandise on their website than Ebay has ever sold!
I guess you Pay his price for advertising or he bans you from the website or from making comments.
Look under the category of "PUMP PARTS" to see all the unlicensed signs,globes etc.! Talk about selling repops.. Sheesh...

I have to agree with the original story. www.oldgas.com is full of scammers. Take a look and form your own opinion. You will see that the same 10 -15 people make post after post about other people they do not like. The ower of the sign has a proven track record of protecting members by editing or removing post they do not like. The history of old gas members reporting fale comments about other people's items for sale in an effort to buy it for less happens eveyday on this site.

I DO NOT make fake signs and have absolutely no alternatative reason or goal to have reported OLDGAS.com on Ripoffreport. My experience with OLDGAS.com is true and genuine. The inference that sour grapes is the reason behind this report is unfounded and ludicrous. Please take the time to review the talk forum on OLDGAS.com. Take all information within this site as suspect. At all times the consumer and visitors to this site should simply evaluate this sites members statements and advice. You should be objective and careful. DO NOT give up infrormation to them that you may feel could be exploited or comprimised. Of course people DO NOT want to be ripped off with reproductions or misrepresented collectables. On the other hand, people also DO NOT want to be misiformed or innacurately advised by members that may or may not be giving you honest information to acheive their own objectives. This site also monitors the talk forum. The forum is edited and such suspect information is often deleted by the individual who runs the site. Essentially, if something is said or communicated on OLDGAS.com forum that puts the site under scrutiny or in an unfavorable light the site monitor simply deletes the file so that site vistors are unable to read such issues that have, will and do occur on the site. To all of those who choose to seek advisement from these members make sure that you get second and third opinions from antique dealers and other reliable sources in order to get an accurate and honest evaluation on you interests. This advice is a prerequisite to not being misinformed by these people who have alternative reasons to lead you in the wrong direction when you are trying to seek out, buy and obtain collectable signs. Simply be careful on this site. Take all of this information, OLDGAS.com's reasons, explanations, excuses, accusations, animosity, confrontational behaviors, misleading advice and questionable objectives and be very careful not to get duped by them or anyone else that you try to get advice from period!

These people are not fair! I was trying to buy a very valuable sign and was rearching it's value. I went to OLDGAS.com and was asking for advice on the sign. These people asked me where the sign was and who was selling it. After I told them they told me it was a fake and it was worth nothing. The very next day one of the same members who told me it was fake bought the sign! That is NOT FAIR!
They stand behind this website claiming to help people when they are really out there duping people out of great finds!

I understand why some people who sell fake or reproduction items would get upset, especially if they are intentionally trying to mislead a buyer to thinking the item is authentic. I am personally very grateful for the knowledge and wealth of knowledge that Oldgas.com and its members provide. I sell a lot of memorabilia online and want to be able to represent the item with the most information possible. Since the beginning of time there have been people profiting from the misfortune of others. This is not to say that everyone out there, that sells an item, is intentionally tying to mislead the buyer but you can never be too careful or have too much information to make an educated decision. Counterfeiters and thieves are alive and well and I personally thank Oldgas.com and its members for providing a much needed service to the people.

One of the biggest problems in advertising collectibles is newly made reproductions of genuine items. A few people artificially age new metal signs to give them a vintage appearance with porcelain chips, tarnished patina and specks of light
rust. Sellers sometimes misrepresent the authenticity or claim no knowledge of the actual age. In some cases, the seller may actually not know that the item they are selling is a fake, having been duped themselves in a prior sale.
