I pulled into gas station in Sacramento, CA-2 guys in a black  SUV pulled up & one approched me offering me a great deal on a  surround sound system. I walked over to his vehicle & saw 5  brand new still in the box Olin Ross surround sound systems. The boxes had a price tag of $1,896.99, the guy said give me $500 for one? I said I didn't have that kind of $ to spend & went back to my car.

When I was pulling out the guy ran up to  my car & knocked on the window. I stopped & rolled down the window, he said I need $, so give me what you have in your pocket.  I only had $100. He said I'll take it! But... before I gave him the $, I opened the box to make sure it wasen't full of  bricks.

I  thought this was a nice come-up... NOT! When I got home I called a friend & asked her to google Olin Ross, I couldn't believe when she was reading exactly what had happened to me earlier. But I did get lucky, I went to  another gas station & peddled it to someone else  & got my Benjamin  back the same day!

When I re-sold the surround sound...

AUTHOR: cody g. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 17, 2010

I was in NO WAY trying to make money off this re-sell

I told the guy that I sold it to, later that day at another gas station, it was not what I expected. His words were, "you get what you pay for."  I said, "Do you want it for the $100 I'm into it?"  His exact words were, "Hell yes!"

I did not try to make any more $ than what I was out.

If you want to get technical... I lost $ because of the gas and time I spent dealing with the darn thing.

The moral  of this story is, If it's to good to be true... believe it because IT IS!

Awwwww.....c'mon now, Cody........

...by your own admission you purchased a speaker from a stranger for $1C, eh? You then discovered you were scammed as the speaker was a piece of junk. Next move: Sell the speaker that you had determined was a rip-off to some other unsuspecting soul.

.

That puts you squarely within the ethicality of the scam seller number one. Since you had the gall to successfully unload the scam upon another, how were you ultimate Ripped Off?

.

The speaker scam to which Edgeman alludes HAS been gaining notoriety for several years. It has been the subject of numerous Rip-Off reports. I can only wonder if youve been living in a cave.

Speaker scam...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 13, 2010

This used to be a very popular scam a few years ago. This kind of activity seemed to have slowed down for a little while but I've been noticing more and more reports lately. These speakers are of astoundingly low quality and are generally sold for $25 to $50 dollars a piece. Some of the sellers have been known to set up web pages that show the speakers selling for $2,500 or more and will often have magazine or catalog entries on hand that show a similar price.

With these tools in hand, the scammers will drive around town and look for likely buyers. I'm sorry that you were ripped off but you perpetuated the ripoff by offloading what you knew to be a subpar system on somebody else. That is unethical.
