I just had an online session and this company remote accessed my laptop to resolve a MS Office product key installation issue. The link to their company was located on the microsoft page http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/default.aspx.  I purchased MS Office online and received an email with the product key but it was not working. i slicked this online help thinking that they were a sub company of microsoft. Upon request I gave access to them to remote control my laptop. The helpdesk person, Victor/Tech 6, told me that my issue was a MS Office configuration issue and they would resolve. They started to download and configure things on my laptop then immediately tried to sale me on a $299/year windows 'optimization plan'. I said no because I have 3 year plan thru Best Buy Geek Squad. He persisted and persisted I buy their plan, said he would get a supervisor to lower cost, said I should at very least pay $34 to fix this problem he was supposedly solving in the background. I asked why do I have to pay for fixing a MS product key issue and that is when he told me that Omni Tech is not a subsidiary of Microsoft at all, completely independent company. I said that I was not aware and thought they were part of MS. Before I could even get a screen shot of our chat session that included the multiple pressure attempts to give them hundreds of dollars he closed the chat! He then started to quickly click and close all other windows, still in control of my laptop. I had to do a forced reboot to knock him off. This was scary experience because as a customer with their link on MS official site I trusted that they were part of MS, otherwise I would have never given them remote access. They were pushy to sell me on some crazy service for $300, did things that were unrelated to my issue, and hastily deleted/closed my session to remove details of our chat session. This company should not be allowed to have an official looking help link on MS site. Avoid this company at all cost because they are very shady. MS needs to know about these issues with them.
