Oncor replaced my analog meter with a new, digital one, and is now claiming that my analog reading for less than half a month was larger than any entire previous month has ever been for the last four years I've used their power. They've tacked this on to the (presumably accurate) reading of the new digital meter, for a total that is quite unreasonable ($392). I'm VERY conservative when it comes to energy, and rarely approach half this amount.

I've filed a formal complaint, but since the analog meters have been moved to storage (at least they're not recycled already), they've been stalling for two weeks now, and have changed their estimated response time to 7-10 additional business days to go back and read the old meter to verify the number they gave me. Originally, it was "not possible", then it became 3-5 business days, and now it's finally the 7-10 that I just mentioned. I suppose I will come back and update everyone in 10 business days as to whether or not they ever got the information I requested, and if they'd corrected their obvious mistake.

I'm not the only one to have this issue: my coworker got a $650 energy bill this month, my girlfriend's mother got a $350 bill, and apparently several of her co-workers got similar bills; all of them were told that the bulk of their bills were from the fraction of a month in which they still had analog meters, which are now gone. I'm assuming that the meter readers, knowing they were getting laid off anyway, stopped caring about accuracy, and did what I've heard they're known for: estimating use based on the same month the previous year...except that they did so for a fraction of a month rather than the entire month, thus the huge disparity.
