After purchasing a new exterior AC unit (Goodman) within 7 days of installation we needed to call for a repair on the reversing valve in 2008. From that time forward the unit had continuous problems with leaking freon and 3 reversing valve replacements or repairs. the owner Wayne Renolds refused to replace the unit. He continued to repair reversing valves until the warranty ran out this month 02/2013.  Now we purchased that unit from 1 hour heating and air fr $2400, repeatedly requested the faulty unit be replaced which was refused. Now we need a new exterior unit to replace it and becasue of the government regulations on coolant compatibility we need to replace a 2 yr old air handler. So within 4.5 years due to this owners refusal were are out the original $2400 plus a minimum of an additional $5000 to get a functional AC system.  I will not recommend this company to anyone. After consulting several AC companies they all independently agreed that many "bad" reversing valves was the result of faulty installation. PS: on top of all this Wayne Renolds is now refusing to provide me with any of my service records that I requested.

Let me keep this simple, Wayne is my father, I am the son who replaced the second reversing valve. I started working with him in 1989, I am a total tech geek when it comes to my industry So  I am in no way an inexperienced person. The first valve popped a capillary tube, like many of that year/model did. We sent out a tech to replace the valve under warranty, for some reason he thought he could repair the leak rather than replace the valve. After a few failed attempts, he replaced the entire valve assembly. Mind you, this is the hardest part of the whole A/C system to replace, even the best techs run into overheating problems every once and a while. Yes, he did overheat the valve, which is why I decided to remedy the problem myself. I took my time, welds were perfect, purged with nitrogen, pulled a deep vaccuum on the system, took every precaution to make sure no further problems happened. I do seem to remember the home owner telling me he bought a lemon, and that he would like me to check into a "lemon law" for air conditioners. I responded with, If it was a compressor giving us the problem, than yes, but most air conditioning manufacturers would never replace the whole condensing unit based on a small part.

Around this time, we had started noticing this exact problem with Goodman heat pumps. I started talking to friends who own companies that sold Goodman, asking if they are having the same problem, all of them said absolutely! A short time later, Goodman admitted to the faulty parts and notified us and other companies to the problems. A simple google search will back me up on this. This was the final straw for us and we stopped selling Goodman, first the air handler coils had MAJOR issues leaking, now this. In all my years, I have never seen a reversing valve "go bad" due to improper condensing unit installation, and I've seen some really, really bad installs.

The manufacturers warranty was five years on this condenser, the one year labor was provided by us. The reason why we extended the labor warranty was because we felt bad for the home owner, we never even charged him a service call. The manufacturer's warranty is with the unit, not any specific company. The company who installed the Air Handler could have very simply assumed the remaining warranty, Which is what any good A/C contractor would do. When we acquire a new customer, and their A/C is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we will assume it. Because we felt morally obligated to never charge him a dime, which he gladly took advantage of.

01-02-2008 we installed the heat pump.

02-07-2008 The first problem occured with the reversing valve.

02-27-2008 I came back out to replace the valve that my tech damaged.

09-20-2009 we came out to do a maintenance, found nothing wrong.

01-19-2011 We replaced a part (rev. valve?), it was then that we discovered he had another company  install a new air handler.

We could tell there was alot of bad mouthing and posturing done by the other company, the home owner had started to become verbally abusive to our dispatchers and techs. As a company that treasures our employees, we sometimes have to make judgement calls when we are concerned for their well being. Which is why we had to end our relationship with the home owner.

One Hour Heating and Air Largo/False owner staements!

AUTHOR: rob - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, February 24, 2013

Wayne Reynolds, owner of One Hour Heating and Air indicated in his rebuttal that the reversing valve issue began after an independent company replaced the air handler. This is absolutely false. He is FULLY aware it is a false statement. Mr Reynolds is aware he is making a false statement and I have the paperwork to prove it. The first valve his employees installed took over 4 hours and multiple attempts (notarized statement from neighbor). The average install time is 3 1/2 hours with 1 employee. Shortly after that installation it needed to be replaced. The reason for replacement was due to overheating the valve during the previous installation and melting the seals. Mr Reynolds agreed that was the cause and said he would send his son to install the next valve. His son then installed the 2nd valve. ---This ALL occured prior to the installation of the air handler. The secondary company who installed the air handler also forwarded a GOODMAN PDF file to show clear compatibility with the condensing unit (documents available) The 2nd valve later needed to be replaced by a 3rd valve. The 4th valve needed to be replaced on December 14 2012. One Hour Heating and Air repaired the valve by saudering it. Wayne Reynolds -owner of One Hour Heating and Air- indicated on Dec 14/12 he would order a reversing valve apparatus. 1 month later on /1/15/13 I called Mr Reynolds and he indicated the valve was in processing and wait. Mr Reynolds call Monday 02/11/2013 and indicated Goodman doesn't make the part and -"he was done with the unit-". He offered $500 to mitigate my losses of buying another unit. Later that week I requested my computerized records to which Wayne Reynolds response was " I don't know what your up to, but you must think I'm crazy to give you your records."

This could be any consumer: An owner keeps replacing a reversing valve continuously at no charge for labor, while the consumer is continuously asking for a new unit. Makes False and aggressive statements to intimidate the consumer. The owner refuses to contact his Goodman representative for help. The same owner then makes false statements regarding air handler install dates (weak argument) and parts (that don't exist) he is ordering, to protect himself. Finally after the consumer gets upset, because they realize there is no end point, the owner (Wayne Reynolds) says he is done and find somebody else. Where does that leave me the consumer? I am out close to $10,000 and here is the break down. 1) If I replace the Goodman condenser:cost total ($3500), because the air handler needs to be converted to accept the new coolant. (Who would get another Goodman unit after this?) or 2) replacing the whole system would incur the following losses (replace 5yr old Goodman condenser ($2400 loss), replace 2 year old air handler ($2800 loss), install new Lennox system ($5000 loss). Total over $10,000.

My wife and I are feeling like fools that we believed/trusted this owner was acting in our best interest. I have presently filed a report with the Department of Professional Regulations in Tallahassee to get my computerized records. We no longer believe Mr Reynolds is acting in a truthful forthcoming manner. The last quote Mr Reynolds had for me was "I did nothing wrong!" If that's the case, provide me my original (unaltered!) records.

in jan 2008 we installed a 3 ton goodman condenser only with no air handler we provided a 5 year warranty with a 1 year labor warranty in the first 2 years we had 5 calls related to the reversing valve wires and coil. We in 2009 replaced the whole valve. In 2010 we again replaced the valve due to goodman upgrating the faulty valves. most of the service calls have come after clients friend replaced the air handler. we suspect there were non condensables in the lines. we never charged the client for all calls even thou we gave only 1 year labor and warranty was voided when other air handler was installed. owner
