In March 2004, online-sweepstakes.com started selling subscriptions for "premium services" that were to start
4-15-04. Today is 6-03-04 and not only do we not have the services promised, but the siteowner is nowhere to be found and has virtually disappeared! This web site has TONS of moderators who volunteer and they are also in the dark and cant help anyone. It is very sad. The siteowner, Brent Riley, does not respond to e-mails, PMs, snail mails or posts on the site's forum boards. No refunds have been issued or correspondence sent. One member said they are contacting the Ohio Attorney General's office about it, and I dont blame them at all!! THIS IS A RIP OFF. DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY!

not a rip off

AUTHOR: Billie - (U.S.A.)

Online-sweepstakes.com went to premium memberships at first it was free I was a member then also. The owner Brent Riley did his best to tell everyone the site was changing with updates. There were some glitches at first and it took awhile to get the new format up an running. There were times we didn't hear from him and we all were confused . But since then once the new and revamped OLS was up an running it was better than before and deserved the chance to be paid for or not. You do have a choice to pay for the premium services the payments can come directly out of your paypal acount or a couple other ways. But its worth the premium dues.I usually just pay for 3 months at a time. I have won thousands of dollars in marchandise and cash, backyard makeover, DVD player ,clothes just to name a few. The site is well organized and accessible.Sometimes I freak because my membership is about to run out.Check it out its worth it.

complaints are true

AUTHOR: Mk - (U.S.A.)

I haven't been banned there either and I also agree that a lot of what has been said is true.

If you have different political leanings or opinions than the moderators or the owner, there is censorship of your posts. No doubt about that. You can't question a deletion of your post publicly either. If you are favored by the mods or brent, you can insult other people and pretty much get away with it. This is not fair. I understand an owner of a website can do whatever they want with their forums, but I think it's also fair to let potential customers know what they are in for should they decide to pay for the services there. That's why I am here making a post. Basically if you kiss up to the mods, then you should be just fine there but just hope your opinion matches there's and that of the favored members. Yes, they do play favorites.

The sweep listing in itself is ok. There is no separate way to do instant mysweeps if you wanted to, without a hassle. People have asked the owner to change this and still no changes. He seems to forget his customers are his bread and butter. I have emailed the mods before and have recieved absolutely no response when I was having trouble logging in before. I had to figure out what the problem was myself and it took a couple days.

The notes are the only good thing about OLS and that's only because people help each other out there with upc codes and trivia answers and such, but I have heard that if you are banned from the forums, you are also banned from the sweep notes. I realize some people deserve to be banned but I have seen others banned for nothing but disagreeing in their opinions, with someone else. If they are going to ban people then they should ban some of the favorites that say absolutely anything they want with immunity. There are some horrible things that are said.

If you are paying full price for the services there, then all should be able to feel free to discuss their opinions equally rather then having their posts censored. They vehemently deny that they censor but it's obvious to all that they do. It's obvious to me because some of my fairly innocuous posts have been delete with no warning since I've been a member there. I've been there several years.

I've pretty much had it with OLS, so I will not spend 1 more red cent there. Finished! I'm tired of feeling bad when I go there. There are many other sweep websites out there, so I don't need OLS and the mean spirit that goes with trying to be a part of the forums there. It is sad because I have made friends there, I have contributed sweeps, and notes there myself, but it's just not worth the aggravation anymore. Brent lost my business because of a couple of his nasty moderators and their actions, because of some members there that publicly called me names and also because of HIS attitude. (There are a couple kinder mods there.)

A lot of what has been said is true, it is all too easy to get banned--be warned before you spend that $30

AUTHOR: Christine - (U.S.A.)

While I haven't been banned myself, a lot of what has been said is true.
I have seen many members get banned JUST because Brent or one of his 'super mods' didn't like what was said. Unless, of course, you are one of the 'chosen' few that is allowed to say whatever you want (friends of mods, or site owner)
I have witnessed many incidents of people being attacked and pushed to the edge by the 'chosen' and nothing was done. Yet when the person being attacked fought back, or vented his or her frustration at the situation, THEY got banned. Go figure, right?

I for one agree with one of the previous posters.
Do your own investigation into Brent and OLS (online-sweepstakes.com)
Try searching OLS bannings or better yet, see what comes up when you type in
Brent Riley, Springfield Ohio. But be warned, it isn't pretty. Doing your own investigating will let you know if investing $30 a year is worth it or not.

I know myself, I stopped investing the $30 because I can enter and win just as many sweeps for free there. The whole time I was a premium member I won diddly squat. Seriously.

Onlinesweepstakes continues to have problems

AUTHOR: Cindy - (U.S.A.)

I am in complete agreement with those here who have stated that this site and it's owner and moderators are allowed to say and do what they please to any member of onlinesweepstakes. They continue to ban members without any explanation and if you try and get your money back for services not rendered good luck.

I am disgusted at the manner in which I was treated and continue to see many older members and new members treated just as badly. I would never recomend this site to anyone considering entering sweepstakes.

There are other sites with free sweeps that onlinesweepstakes ask you to pay for. My other concern is the forums are not suited for young children and the site says 13 year olds can enter some of their sweeps. I have seen discussions on illegal drug use to perversion. Please shop around before you even consider visiting this site.

Online-sweepstakes is not a rip-off

AUTHOR: Rhonda - (U.S.A.)

there is a free membership and a paid membership. I have been a member for about six weeks and paid for the membership two weeks after I joined. The only difference between the two is 1. there are more sweepstakes offered for premium (paid membership) and 2. a 'shazam' feature that makes it convienant to open up all the dailys for you so you dont have to click on every url address individually. and 3. Paid members also have a feature that keeps track of all your online entries so you dont inadventantly disqualify yourself by accident by entering more than the amount of times allowed per IP or email.

If one pays they wont 'see' a difference. They merely have to use the tab up top under 'mysweeps' to utilize the features that you pay for. Its easy to over-look especially when you dont read the instructions

I havent seen any moderators that are stressed from any upkeep on the threads, they all seem rather happy.
They recently updated the site as well so I imagion that means the owner is around since moderators dont have those type of priveledges.
I joined because a neighbor has been doing it and it perked my interest. It makes a great hobby and in the six weeks Ive been doing it I have won 4 things.

I think the money is worth it because it helps save Alot of time and makes things even more convienant.

OLS Members for 3 years

AUTHOR: Jc - (U.S.A.)

I've read with interest the different remarks regarding OLS. Personally, I like the website ability to track my sweeps, the ability to search for new sweeps. When I join three years ago I went Green within a day. However, if you pay by check,(like most people do)there is a delay in turning green. We all are aware that when you mail a check out, it is not delivered the next day nor is it posted to your account the next day.

People who want to complain in my opinion have nothing better to do but complain. and will do so on any website. That's their nature. I enter sweeps which is why I paid my membership. Regarding the opinions in Forums, It is like any other forum, everyone has their opions if you like them or not. That is what make this world go around.

Been a member for years

AUTHOR: Susan - (U.S.A.)

Those that keep complaining the Online-Sweepstakes is selling information about sweeps that is public knowledge keep forgetting that the information on OLS is arranged conveniently, with notes on how to enter (i.e. no dashes in phone number) and has the myweeps feature.

As one who used to use a manual method of keeping track of the daily sweepstakes that I entered, the mysweeps alone is well worth the price of admission. I would have to spend valuable sweep time searching out and organizing the sweeps. Time that I don't have.

As for the comments that the webmaster received funds for each entry from his site. I find that highly unlikely. Most people, including me, have security software that blocks the referrer so that no one knows what site I was on when I click on the link.

Many of the problems seem to stem from people who have been banned. The spirited give and take in the forums have led some to believer that they can post whatever lies and slander that they want and will not be held accountable.

I don't know or care if the owner is under investigation for a myriad of crimes. So far, I have seen NO credible evidence of that. The site works. All I want is an easy method to keep track of sweepstakes and lots of listing. I've gotten that.

Those on the forums who repeat unsubstantiated and vicious gossip about the site's owner shouldn't be surprised if they are told that they are no longer welcome at the site.

AUTHOR: Joann - (U.S.A.)

I have never had a problem with the site or Brent. Banned members have been harrassing Brent for a long time now over a mere $30. It is stated at the site that it is at the discretion of the webmaster for a refund of their premium fee if banishment occurs. It's all retaliation.

OLS most CERTAINLY does charge for its sweeps

AUTHOR: Tracy - (U.S.A.)

OLS most CERTAINLY does charge for its sweeps.

Yes, you pay for the so called organization, but you are also being charged for sweeps that are FREE, every where else on the internet!! If they weren't charging for sweeps, then ALL OF THEM would be available to EVERYONE. Not just premium members.

New people come to this site DAILY are are told by Premium members to GO GREEN! They are pretty much told they are ''GUARENTEED'' they will win more, if they pay for premium membership. Non premium members are treated like outcasts until they pay up.

Oh, and DON'T question him or the mods on anything. You'll be banned, and your membership WILL NOT be refunded. They wont even respond to your emails as to why you were banned.

OLS DEFENDERS NEED TO GET FACTS AND TO KNOW THE REAL FACTS (((links)))

AUTHOR: Frank - (U.S.A.)

Unfortunately, some members defending Brent Riley are completely ignorant to who he is, what he is all about, and what he really thinks of his members.

His own moderators started a website where they could complain and make fun of OLS members. The very same members that they were "friendly" with. They took down the site as soon as it was discovered. Fortunately, someone got screenshots of what they were saying before the site was taken down.

Brent Riley has also been in trouble for tax evasion:

http://12.150.181.49/

Click on search, quick index, and then type in Riley, Brent.

He has had complaints made against him with the Better Business Bureau but refuses to address them:

bbbwestflorida.org/commonreport.html?bid=90021830

Brent Riley would have his members think that charging $30.00 for a "premium" membership is to keep the site running. Nothing can be further from the truth. It's to guarantee that members will enter sweepstakes directly from OLS guaranteeing him his main income.

Unbeknownst to most of his members, his income is generated from "kickbacks" from specific sponsors featuring a sweepstakes. On those specific sweepstakes, everytime a member goes to the webpage of the sweepstakes directly from OLS, Brent Riley receives a cash value for the "hit" from his site.

Therefore, his programs such as "MySweeps" and "Shazam" pretty much guarantee him a very, very good income by keeping members entering sweepstakes directly from OLS and also putting a "little" extras cash in his pocket.

Those who defend Brent Riley are defending him based on emotions alone and do not base it on anything more than that. These members have no clue as to what is really going on behind the scenes of OLS and shouldn't be coming to Brent Riley's rescue without a proof to back up what they are saying and/or knowing the facts first.

OLS is the best on the web! Accusations are false!

AUTHOR: Jen - (U.S.A.)

I have been a premium member for several years and the accusations that I am reading are completely false. The charge of $30 per year is nothing compared to what I win by using their well checked sweepstakes that they organize.

Someone suggested that he cannot charge for free sweepstakes. He is charging for the organization of the sweeps and for it being free of banners etc.

Here is what I have won since I have been on their site, you do the math and see if it is worth a premium membership:

TOTAL ARV $26,642

2007 - $14,286
2006 - $11,642
2005 - $280
2004 - $590

The people that are complaining on here are people with anger issues and potty mouths who got banned and are mad at the world. They want back on to see the awesome sweeps but they can't because of being banned so this is their way to get back at Brent. Brent has been nothing but wonderful since I have been there and I cannot believe anyone would have a bad word to say about him!

Please don't believe the losers who are trying to rebel against OLS. We have new members every day at OLS that love the place. If someone doesn't like the forums, they should just go enter sweeps. That is what the site is for by the way!

Jen

OLS has become dark and nasty

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

I've been a member of OLS for two years. I pay to belong to this site. It has always provided me with the best sweeps and the people have always been the very best of the best. In the last month I've seen and been a victim of meanness and unfair treatement. Members are being banned for posting opinions, their posts are being deleted and/or moved from the board and if you dare to question anything, you gets suspended.

I am very upset about all of this and I wish so much that whoever owns this site would take the control back from these evil control freaks and let the members have peace and quiet once again. We all got along great before this.

OUT-OF-HAND BANNING

AUTHOR: Frank - (U.S.A.)

Online-Sweepstakes has become more and more discriminatory against its members.

Apparently, the owner, Brent, doesn't want any negative views, opinions, etc., against OLS and their premium membership (where at least 30% of free sweepstakes are held hostage unless you pay up a $30.00 membership fee for that and a couple of other features).

Recently, they have added to their rules prohibiting members from using their freedom of speech in stating facts, opinions, etc., in regard to OLS. Members are now directed to private message a moderator instead of posting it publically.

They have been, increasingly, banning members without warning or reason (many being from Long Island). It appears that they are banning members simply because they don't like their posts regarding OLS. These are not members being vulgar, threatening, or bullying. Simply, members that post statements that Brent and the moderators don't like.

It clearly is in violation of the regulations that protect internet users' rights to express opinion, etc., without fear of discrimination.

Also, it appears that Brent is claiming copyrights to "all" on OLS including the sweepstakes themselves. I may be wrong, but I don't see how he can legally hold "free" sweepstakes hostage for a fee.

Through the years, the arrogance of the owner has grown to unbelievable proporations. He has a complete disregard for his members and their rights protected under the law--he makes his own laws.

ex members stirring the pot

AUTHOR: Ann - (U.S.A.)

I have to agree with a previous post using the example of a bar kicking out a patron who can't behave. They do not get there cover charge back. The same is true in this situation.

OLS is a great website. I have gladly paid my membership fee and have gotten more that what I paid for. I have never had an issue with Brent or the site in general.

What we have here are a few banned folks who continuously go to different sites and post negative comments about the website because they were banned for treating others badly, calling them names, and behaving with the maturity of grade school children.

Apparently there were only about 10,000 members when this report was filed. Today, we are many more than 100,000 members at OLS.

I've been there about seven (wow!) years, and have to say it is still the best (not to mention the largest!) sweeps site on the web. And Brent is still doing a great job!

So, I guess if you wait long enough, the truth becomes apparent!

In support of the critics

AUTHOR: Ilene - (U.S.A.)

I was a long-time premium member of online-sweepstakes.com, and found myself banned, burned and entirely locked out of the site, now missing the premium sweeps, my personal messages, anything and everything I invested in my membership. 6 months of my membership were sucked away from me by Brent and his mods without reason or explanation.

Anybody who wishes to pursue this hobby is advised to frequent another site that has free content, or at least avoid this one, as the management is prone to banning people willy-nilly. As for what you paid them, they don't care. They'll take you back if beg, or maybe not. But if they don't you will not get a refund.

This is all very unfortunate, not only for myself, but for the site. I have always enjoyed being a member.

In the words of Paul Simon, Online-Sweepstakes.com is "slip slidin' away." Word is spreading, and people know what is happening to the site. The mods and editors and toadies can come here and say nice things in contradition to my comments as is their right, but it doesn't change the truth about this site and how they treat their members.

If you ABSOLUTELY MUST join this site, it's okay to use the free content. Just don't pay them any money because you might be sorry. I'm sorry having to post this quite frankly.

Dishonest and Disgruntled...

AUTHOR: L. - (U.S.A.)

I've been a member of this site for YEARS. Outstanding site, great community.

Let me run a scenario by all of you that will clearly explain the root of the original complaint:

You run a nightclub, and people pay ten bucks to get in. Thousands of people are in the club, partying, enjoying each other. Great hangout.

Then the mean-spirited, rowdy, antagonistic bully types come in, all together, with the specific intention of causing trouble. Personal attacks and trolling would be a GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT. They show up, cause mountains of trouble, disrupting the entire place, and make the club no longer fun. They create tense, stressful environment that no one can enjoy, and people are leaving in droves. It's just not worth all the negativity.

So what do you do? After asking (in some cases, MULTIPLE TIMES) for them to behave TO NO AVAIL, you finally give up and have security escort them OUT THE DOOR.

And you don't give them their ten bucks back.

So the same troublemakers now - upset that they've been asked to leave (and JUSTIFIABLY SO), start asking the owner and security "Hey, how come i got thrown out? What'd I do?" When they know FULL WELL what they did because they were repeatedly warned. These folks have truly hurt people.

But they take no responsiblity or ownership for their actions, and come back in the middle of the night and throw a malatov cocktail through the window to burn the place down.

I'm figuratively speaking of course, but this is what has happened. You've got THOUSANDS of witnesses to this debacle, myself included.

Those that were banned made OLS a TERRIBLE place to be...absolutely TERRIBLE. And the community was glad to finally see them go. It took a LONG time for them to finally be banished. It took so long for it to happen. They were warned so many times. They caused SO MUCH trouble, and hurt SO MANY people.

Now one of them is PRETENDING to be an 81-year-old lady for affect and drama (the 'molatov cocktail'), and lying to try to damage Brent.

After WARNING AFTER WARNING AFTER WARNING, they were sent packing. And by that time, no...Brent doesn't owe any of you to answer your pm's or e-mails. It's like the horrible group that got thrown out of the club standing outside, looking in through the window, banging on it, going "Dude, why'd you throw me out?!" And acting like they are the victims all of a sudden.

You know exactly why you were thrown out. You are not the victims here. Stop pretending to be, and stop trying to damage the man who is only doing his job. You were OVERWHELMINGLY not wanted there, as stated by the members and the administrators, because of YOUR ACTIONS and nothing more.

As I stated, there are THOUSANDS of member at OLS that witnessed all of this and tell you that my assessment is DEAD ON. Shame on you meanies for having the NERVE to be sour grapes after all the negativity you all created and nurtured on that site.

Rebuttal to Sept. 12, 2006 rebuttal post

AUTHOR: Skylene - (U.S.A.)

Not sure what the person is referring to as a "refund", but if said person purchased a premium membership, and then decided that they did not like it, then, no, there is no refund.

This excerpt is taken directly from the subscription order page:
"All subscriptions are final and refunds will only be granted at the sole discretion of the owner of the OLS web site."

Now, if the person who posted on Sept. 12, 2006, has been "banned" for whatever reasons (there are several policies outlined at the website for which a violation may be cause a member to be banned), then the "banishment" only prevents that member from posting in the forum area of the website, and accessing any "notes" that are included with the sweepstake listing.

The banned member still has FULL priviledges of accessing the website (as a "guest" would have)and viewing ALL sweepstake listings, even those that are for a premium, paying member.

This may explain why a refund is not done for any member who has been banned from the site.

I lost my account and I did nothing wrong.

AUTHOR: Vera - (U.S.A.)

I am 81 years old and was a premium member. I asked for a refund and never got a response not even after three tries.

The site is very prejudiced and the openly allowed hateful speech against homosexual and drove out many of the homosexuals. They attacked christians, jews and other religions.

The computer technician found on the computer some data miners and we have since found out that this site puts spyware on your computer. Brent Riley attended the 2005 sweepstakes convention were he had numerous run-ins with security after he cussed, screamed, insulted banned members of his site and was seen crawling out the hotel doors at just before midnight.

There have been times when he has gone awol for months at a time and once for over a year. There are problems with sweeps that are affiliates of his which are not good sweepstakes. He now uses 6 step contests that you cannot ever finish the entry form on.

The worst thing is that he bans people for no reason other than being Baptist, Catholic, Mormon, homosexual, or not of his politic viewpoint. He never refunds the money for premium services. He owes us but will not pay us. In fact he can take the money and ban all he wants then get rich. It is not fair that he takes money for an 81 year old lady and will not return it.

There are other free sites like (((competitotr's name's Redacted))) which offer you spam and spyware free sweepstakes.

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company your comments on this policy are welcome! Such Diversity and 1 Complaint?

AUTHOR: Lisa - (U.S.A.)

I joined in Feb 2004 with no news on any premium membership. When it was announced that there was a membership platform I immediately sent in my $30. I didn't send it for what was to come, I sent it because I was very very impressed with the site as it was. It gave me fun and delight and the opportunity to reap much more than $30 in a years time. P.S. I am rather poor but rustled up the cash anyway.

There are many different entities on the site as one will find on any board. This board, for the patient users, is being updated in a manner which is just ducky albeit slowly, but the new results have been wonderful already. For some who think it's too slow must not be taking advantage of all the fun/work that is done by sweepers. Some people are angry/impudent every day, unfortunately they usually say/write things that are better left unsaid.

OLS is a very professional site. It is also a great place to be. Each one of us takes it or leaves it depending upon our wishes, time, and emotions. I am very sorry that you (ripoff) became a carrier of a couple of angry folks opinions.

All are welcome as long as you play nice. So to Ima sweeper(name unkown)How about reconsidering and offering up an apology and your name. Alison the happy sweeper :-)

Very Happy Premium Member

AUTHOR: Cathy - (U.S.A.)

I am a premium member of Online-Sweepstakes.com and I am extremely pleased with the site. The $30 that I have paid is an extremely small price considering what Online-Sweepstakes has to offer. I do not for one minute believe that Brent Riley is trying to rip anyone off. The fact is that he is providing a service and deserves to be compensated for that service. I find it repulsive that someone would slader Brent's good name without just cause.

Irresponsible Reporting

AUTHOR: Stephanie - (U.S.A.)

I am a premium/ paid member of Online-Sweepstakes.com and very glad to be. This is a hobby that I enjoy and thoroughly enjoy the benefits provided by this service. I am shocked that one person having a bad day can post anything they want to (no matter how incorrect the information) along with another person's personal information and obviously no one checks into or varifies the claim before posting slanderous information on the internet. I would take a poll of the members of this site before making any decisions on this.

Every post that I have read and message from Brent on the site have been very honest about the progress of the site. He has even extended membership to reflect the actual date that things were up and running as opposed to the date that a person joined, if before that date.

It is a shame that good people have to worry about this type of false negative publicity when they are an honest hard working person trying to do something good for others. Brent even decided to split the site where only a portion of it was premium, so the ones who could not afford it would not be suddenly shut out completely- like many sites do!

To any sweepers out there looking for a great site to find & organize online as well as USPS sweepstakes and contests- If you haven't checked this site, you are missing out. The site is free and membership is optional to unlock the premium services. WWW.Online-Sweepstakes.com

Online-Sweepstakes is the BEST!

AUTHOR: Lisa - (U.S.A.)

To whom it may concern:

I am an editor at online-sweepstakes.com, along with numerous other volunteers who edit and moderate. Brent is a great guy, but I seriously doubt he has the Power to "SNOW" us over. We have over 10,000 members, and if we were such a lousy site, people wouldn't want to be a part of it.
The person who sent the complaint obviously must not have been having a winning day- and made the unwise ( in my opinion) choice to voice his/her disappointment with your organization.
As with any organization trying to improve themselves, there are times when you are going to have setbacks. Brent Riley has been forthcoming with everything that is going on at Online-Sweepstakes.com. He has extended the paid membership until all upgrades are complete. At the present time--we have a members -only forums, members-only chat rooms and
members-only contests, in which only Premium Members can access. This is on top of the 1000's of sweeps and regular forums that are free to anyone. This site also has NO SPAM or POP-UPS! $30 a year is a small price to pay to be a part of this wonderful community. It averages to approximately .082 cents a day or $2.50 a month. Most people average $100 + a month in WINS ALONE in contests found at online-sweepstakes.com.

I hope that you will take the time to review this matter. And remove this deceitful person's letter from your site. Should you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact me--or any of the other 9000+ members who are happy to be a part of this site.

Sincerely,

Lisa Lutz/lutzplay2

Full of Crap.... Allowing some post-menopausal Florida low-life to sully a reputation in perpetuity on the web without verification is socially and morally irresposible

AUTHOR: Geoff - (U.S.A.)

The site has extended (at no cost or time expiration) ALL privledges associated with premium membership until fully implemented. All subscriptions (90 days, 6 months, a year for $30) will start when all promised functions are in place. As each is implemented, each pemium member is given access, with no charge on their membership until ALL are funtional.

I am an outsider looking in but you should do a better job of post review. Allowing some post-menopausal Florida low-life to sully a reputation in perpetuity on the web without verification is socially and morally irresposible. You could be next, you know.
