I have stayed there for 9 months now and have met the Australian guy a few times and even though I was not present at the time a know a con when I see one. Chris and Ooy did everything for him including taking care of his child and took him where ever he wanted to go free of charge so for him to complain about this is not right. I have never had a problem there or know anybody that has so to me he, the Australian, is talking a load of B#######

I am American citizen and I stayed at Ooy's Garden Rooms for 10 days in July, 2013.  It is family owned, but the face of the operation is Chris Asbeck Brusse, the man mentioned in the complaint.  His wife is Ooy, thus, "Ooy's Garden Rooms." They have an adorable 4 year old daughter named Jenny who turns 5 in October.  Since Chris is Dutch/Canadian who speaks great English/Dutch, he is the one to mingles with his mostly Western clientelle.  

There are two things that any person needs to know about Chris:  (1) He won't give you any grief.  (2)  His reward for (1) is that he won't take anybody else's sob story.  If you can understand this, you will learn to respect and cherish the company and hospitality that Chris provides.

He is engaging, insightful, intelligent, and a great conversationist.  He can discuss topics on a high level from economics, history, religion, politics, sports, etc.  He's a wonderful person to talk to.  Just don't come to the bar with your sob story.  Nobody wants to here it.  Nobody.  We all have our crosses to bear.  You're alive, cherish it.  If you feel the urge to complain about life or get too serious, then you should shut up and be quiet and be friendly and kind with a smile.   Or go to your room.  This is true for everywhere you go in Pattaya.  

I can only report second-hand from several witnesses about what happened to the "victim" who filed the prior report.  On several accounts, the story was always the same and consistent.  Obviously, it was favorable to Chris or else they wouldn't still be there.

However, I feel it would be more effective if I shared my story about this wonderful place.  

First of all, remember that if you come here (or any other establishment), you are in Pattaya, Thailand.  This place is one of the toughest I've seen on Earth.  I'm a Navy Veteran who has been to some very bad parts of the world, including my own hometown and environs.  This place has a string of hardness woven into the social fabric... so be prepared, and hold tight to your currency.  Chris will never rip you off.

When I was here, I was going through a very difficult time and ran out of money.  Chris, and his family, gave me free food, without me asking.  I never complained about "oh, I'm poor, feel sorry for me."  Well, maybe a little, but Chris always kept me in perspective.  Remember, he won't take your sob story because he's not going to give you his.  He'll tell you about his trainwreck and how he got through it despite his adversity, so you gotta do the same too, buddy.  Welcome to the world...it's crazy and we're all living in it together.  

If you come with a warm heart and smile, this place will welcome you with open arms.  If you come with a loud mouth and start acting like a fool, you're going to get the Pattaya treatment.  Chris is no different.  In fact, his tolerance is much higher than anywhere else you go.  As a Navy veteran and former President of a 1,000+ Veteran organization, I've made several friends who don't have all of their limbs anymore.  There's one thing that we always remind each other, kill your grief or keep it to yourself.  Handle it, because we all have our crosses to bear.  

At Ooy's, everybody I've spoken to has agreed on one thing, the person who filed the complaint was:  Loud, Obnoxious, and Rude with a "poor me" attitude.  You can't do that in Pattaya.  

The part about stealing the man's property is widely disputed, but one thing is not; that man should not come back to Pattaya, because if not Chris, somebody will kill him.  This is not a place for softy, "feel sorry for me" people.  

Pattaya is hard, and Ooy's Garden Rooms is one of the few warm places a person can feel safe and relaxed.  

Oh, and Mama's cooking is so f-ing good.  OMGosh, it is sooooooooo delicious.  Kebabs are good, but I really loved her curry.  Sooooooo good.  

The fact that the claimant was bashing their food is proof to me that he is obviously embellishing his claim, which leads the rational person to question the merits of his other claims because their cooking is f-ing awesome!

What happened to you was horrible! It's really sad. I am going to be in Pattaya in a month's time. As I was google-ing for a reasonably priced hotel or guesthouse, I came across your report and I could not pass up not reading it. I initally thought of Ooys, but your report saved me.
