 I had been a cablevision subscriber for over a year paying roughly $175 per month. In August of 2014 my bill was for $215. When I called to inquire about the charges I was told that I had been paying a "promotional" rate and that the promotion period was up.  I was also told that cablevision notified me by sending out a letter 30 days prior.

I insisted that if I had I received such a letter I would have immediately called to challenge the raise in rates and if they did not help me out I would have canceled the service right then and there. I told them that I refuse to pay the higher rate and asked to speak with a supervisor. No supervisor was provided but they did transfer me to the retention department.

The retention department would not put me back to the same payment plan that I had and told me I was resposible to pay $215. They also insisted that I was previously notified about the rate change. I then canceled the cablevision service.

Shortly after I received a bill for over $1300 because I did not yet return the equipment. So the next day I brought everything back to the Optimum store. The clerk there scanned in all my equipment, told me everything was in order, nothing is outsatnding and he then told me that cablevision will send an ADJUSTED FINAL bill, less the equipment charges.

Fast forward to Oct. 1st and I get a call from a collection agency stating that I owe Cablevision $270. Never received a final bill, never heard back from cablevision. So I called cablevision to find out why a collection agency is calling me. Cablevison tells me that is their procedure if payment is over 30 days late. She (Andrea) also stated that if I pay her $370 they will notify the collection agency to stop calling. That's right, it's now at $370. When I asked why she told me that I still have a modem that I never returned.

Bottom line is, I am more than willing to pay the original $175. I will not pay the new rate since I was never notified and I definitely will not pay an additional $100 for a phantom modem that I do not need or have.
