BUYER BEWARE!  LET ME REGALE YOU WITH MY TALE OF WOE.  I WON’T BOTHER GOING BACK TO THE PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS WITH THIS OUTFIT.  I’LL JUST TELL YOU ABOUT THE MOST RECENT AND, HAPPY TO SAY, THE LAST ENCOUNTER.

    MY SISTER HAD A HOME SERVICE CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY.  PRIOR TO JULY 2nd, HER A/C STARTED ACTING UP AND WASN’T COOLING PROPERLY.  LET ME ALSO STATE THAT HER A/C IS APPROXIMATELY 20 YRS OLD.  SO SHE CALLED ORANGUTAN TO COME OUT AND CHECK IT.  THEY SENT A TECH NAMED LUIS OUT TO WORK ON THE A/C.  WHEN I GOT TO HER HOUSE AFTER WORK AND WALKED IN,  IT WAS STILL WARM.  I ASKED HER IF THEY CAME OUT AND SHE SAID YES.  SHE SHOWED ME THE INVOICE FOR THE WORK THAT LUIS DID OF WHICH, HE DID NOT EXPLAIN TO MY SISTER WHAT HE’D BE DOING AND WHAT THE CHARGES WOULD BE. 

    THE INVOICE LISTED THE FOLLOWING:

  1. (1)   LEVEL 4 EXTRACTION, CLEANING AND REINSTALLATION OF THE COIL ($643.25).

  2. (2)   LEVEL 4 BLOWER MOTOR EXTRACTION, CLEANING AND REINSTALL ($360.84).

  3. (3)   REFRIGERENT RECHARE ($496.75).

  4. (4)   FLAT RATE DIAGNOSTIC FEE ($79.00).

    Hmmmm…THAT TOTALS TO $1579,84.  HE EVEN OVERCHARGED BY $.20, LOL.  ALSO, AS I LOOK BACK OVER THE INVOICE, I WONDER WHY HE CHARGED $79.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE.  I WOULD THINK THAT WOULD BE A CHARGE IF NO SERVICE WAS PERFORMED.  HE EVEN WROTE ON THE INVOICE “NO WARRANTY ON REPAIR”.  $1579.64 IS WHAT HE CHARGED MY SISTER.  I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT, BUT THOUGHT, IT’S THE A/C AND 20 YRS OLD AND SUMMERTIME.  SHE SAID LUIS MENTIONED IT WOULD TAKE AWHILE FOR THE HOUSE TO COOL DOWN.  SHE SAID HE FINISHED UP AROUND 1:30 P.M.  I GOT TO THE HOUSE ABOUT 4:30 P.M.  I STATED THAT IT SHOULDN’T TAKE THAT LONG TO COOL DOWN.

        SO I FIGURED I’D GIVE IT SOME MORE TIME.  THE THREMOSTAT READ 77 DEGREES AND INSIDE TEMP OF 84 DEGREES.  SO I SHUT THE UNIT OFF SO AS NOT TO LET IT FREEZE UP.  AS THE SUN SET AND I TURNED UNIT BACK ON, IT FELT LIKE IT WAS A LITTLE COOLER.

        SO, THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS.  SAME ROUTINE, SAME TIME OF DAY.  FINALLY, I TOLD HER TO GET A HOLD OF ALEX.  A HANDYMAN SHE’S USED BEFORE AND SEE IF HE COULD CHECK OUT THE SYSTEM. 

        ON JULY 8TH , A TECH, CONSE, FROM ALVARADO’S HEATING AND COOLING (REMEMBER THIS COMPANY NAME) CAME OUT.  IN WHAT SEEMED LIKE NO TIME AT ALL, HE HAD THE UNIT WORKING LIKE NOTHING HAD BEEN WRONG WITH IT.

       

     

    HIS INVOICE LISTED WHAT HE DID:

  1. (1)   FOUND UNIT WAS OVERCHARED WITH R-22.

  2. (2)   HEAD PRESSURE 325 PSI.

  3. (3)   SUCTION PRESSURE 110 PSI.

  4. (4)   BLOWER WHEEL FULL OF DIRT AND TO HEAVY FOR MOTOR UNIT TO BLOW AT 53 DEGREES. 

     

    ATER HE BLED OFF SOME OF THE R-22, CLEANED THE WHEEL (WHICH IS WHAT LUIS’S INVOICE SAID HE DID), THE UNIT IS WORKING ON 101 DEGREES + 30 DEGREES, HEAD PRESSURE AT 300 PSI AND SUCTION PRESSURE AT 85 PSI.  UNIT BLOWS AT 21 DEGREES. 

        CONSE EVEN WALKED MY SISTER THRU WHAT HE WAS DOING.  SOMETHING LUIS DID NOT DO.

        AND NOW THE GOOD PART.  HE ONLY CHARGED $90.00 TO DO ALL OF THIS.  AT THE WRITING OF THIS LETTER, A/C STILL WORKING GREAT.  AND LET ME SAY, IF YOU NEED A/C SERVICE, CALL THIS GUY.  HE IS AWESOME AND WON’T BULLSHIT OR HIT YOU WITH OVER-PRICING OR HIDDEN FEES.

        WHEN I HEARD THAT IT WAS ONLY $90.00 TO FIX THE A/C, I WAS ON THE PHONE THE NEXT DAY TO ORANGUTAN.  I TALKED WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPERVISOR, SHANNON CARR.  I EXPLAINED TO HER ABOUT THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 2 INVOICES, THAT CONSE’S FEE WAS ONLY $90.00.  WHEN SHE HEARD THAT, SHE AUTOMATICALLY ASKED ME TO SEND HER A COPY OF HIS INVOICE, WHICH I DID AS SOON AS I ENDED MY PHONE CALL WITH HER.  I TOLD HER HOW I FELT THAT WHENEVER MY SISTER CALLED THEM FOR SERVICE, ALL THEY DID WAS GIVE HER THE BIG GREEN WIENEY AND NOT EVEN A KISS GOOD-BY.  I ALSO MENTIONED THAT I DID NOT TRUST THEM.  AND WHEN I SETTLED THE MATTER REGARDING THE INVOICE, I WANTED TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT MY SISTER HAD WITH THEM.

        I TOLD HER ABOUT HOW THEIR TECH, LUIS, OVERCHARGED THE COMPRESSOR.  I STATED THAT IF LUIS IS A “TRAINED PROFESSIONAL” AND HAD GUAGES HOOKED UP, HOW COULD HE HAVE OVERCHARGED THE COMPRESSOR.  I TOLD HER THAT I FELT LIKE LUIS DID IT ON PURPOSE, THINKING THAT THE COMPRESSOR WOULD BLOW OUT AND MY SISTER WOULD HAVE TO BUY A NEW A/C FROM THEM.

        BASED ON CONSE’S PRICE FOR FIXING THE UNIT, I TOLD HER I FELT HER CHARGES ARE WAY TOO MUCH.  I REQUESTED A REFUND OF AT LEAST HALF OF THE BILL.  SHE SAID SHE’D TALK TO HER DIRECTOR, JIM KLEHR, AND GET BACK TO ME.  WHEN SHE DID, SHE SAID HE WOULD REFUND ME THE $90.00 FOR THE OTHER SERVICE CALL.  I SAID THAT WASN’T ACCEPTABLE OR FAIR, BUT I JUST WANTED TO BE DONE WITH HER COMPANY.  I ALSO MENTIONED THAT BEINGS LUIS OVERCHARGED THE COMPRESSOR, WHY WAS I BEING CHARGED FOR THE EXTRA R-22. 

        BOTTOMLINE,  SHE PRORATED THE CONTRACT AMOUNT, $114.82 AND REFUNDED THE $90.00 AND 1 POUND OF R-22 ($85.00). 

        I TOLD MY SISTER TO CHALK THE REST OF THE “HOLD-UP” TO A LEARNING EXPERIENCE.  AND IF YOU ARE APPROACHED MY THIS COMPANY FOR A HOME SERVICE MAINTAINENCE CONTRACT, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
