My complaint is with the tactics used by the Lowery Law Office. They hinge their collections agency by using a lawyer's name in order to force people to call them back. This office has contacted my 70 year old father and harassed him into forcing me to contact the office. They never submitted to me the reasons for why they were contacting me and didn't create anything in writing for the law office was calling. They do not identify themselves as a Collection agency. I requested that they do not contact my work place which is a hospital setting. Phone calls as such interfere with the daily operations of patient care. The next day they contacted the hospital again and involved my supervisor in the matter. They have contacted me at inappropriate times, and I have sent letters stating that they are only to correspond with me by mail and have violated that request. They are also challenging me on what money has been paid stating that I owe an additional $200.00 when I have written proof from my bank what money has been paid. I do not dispute that the money is owed, I dispute in the manner that this company has acted. My reputation at work and with my family has been tarnished since I have a "law office" contacting me, so I have filed complaints with the Federal Trade Comission, the BBB, the Office Staff of the Colorado Collection Ageny Board and to the Colorado Supreme Court Disciplinary Council for review.

Only do things in writing in dealing with bottom feeders and ambulance chasers

AUTHOR: Faron - (U.S.A.)

Send a letter to the attention of P Scott Lowery and tell him that you will only deal with any of his horrible staff, in writing, and no exceptions. Tell them the situation about the hospital and it is imperative that no oral communication be done. Also, throw in that his firm will be in violation of the FDCPA and if letter is not adhered to. That should handle them.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

I agree..

AUTHOR: Maria - (U.S.A.)

I, too, am an ex-employee. Honestly, yeah, my training involved one week .. if not less of basically just going through the book. I learned a lot, but when I first agreed to the job, I thought that this would be about helping people resolve their debts. You know, be yourself... try to help people out. That's how it came across to me. But then I got on the floor, got my own little cubicle .. and I listened to people, REALLY listened and let them know that I would work with them. I gave them payments that were most comfortable to them. But everytime I was overheard doing this, I had a disgruntled supervisor, or another employee asking me why I agreed to it. I let them know that the reason I did was because of the hardships they were going through (medical problems, house repossession, etc). But they always told me to push for more, push for more .. be more 'aggressive' and that we're not customer service.

I don't know, it was unfortunate. I think that the company would be more successful if they actually HELPED consumers .. that way it wouldn't be in this little rip-off report thing, either. But, yeah. For the record: they do call family, friends, relatives, anyone that can get ahold of you.. even neighbors. It's called skip-tracing. And there are no laws preventing them from doing so. That's why I do recommend, instead of avoiding them, that people actually do talk to them .. because there ARE good collectors in the office, maybe you'll luck out. It's better than being annoyed constantly by them, right?

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Lowery law office...yeah okay...

AUTHOR: Jesusavesyourmom19 - (U.S.A.)

I used to work for Lowery Law Office. First off they weren't paying me very much to call people over their debt. They are under poor management. Their head "attorney" in the denver office is older than a dino. Seriously no lie. They change their policies every week. It got quite annoying, but I suspected they may have known what they were doing.

I turned out to be wrong. Sadly, they are just money hungry. The attorneys were just as money hungry actually. They followed the rules. When it came to getting back on the phone the "leaders" would give you dirty tactics. Of course I would question it. I would tell my leader...hey we can't do this...oh no don't worry go ahead. I never violated a serious law though. If I did that would be my butt. In the end I was pretty much proven that I was right. They don't care about their employees. The hire felons and I have nothing against that. I just find it funny that a law office hires them though. Then they pay them an indecent rate. promise them a bonus that could eventually come in about 8 months. It equals out to making 12 an hour if bonus a grand a month. That is if you're lucky.

They rarely even train their collectors. I had a class of over 20 maybe 30. We were trained properly. As for others that came after me.mthere training was a manuel employee guideline handbook and a cubicle. How unfair was that? Isn't it their job to teach these poor innocent people the laws? So things like what I've been reading won't happen?

I will give you guys a tip though. If you'll pay your bills on time you won't have to deal with this. If they call you on the first thirty days tell them you don't want anymore calls. If they tell you that you need it in writing. Tell them you want to speak with one of their attorneys. DO NOT ASK TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR. Speak to one of their dang "attorneys". Another thing...these people will keep your account for six months. The only way they can even file judgement against you...now don't take my word on this...is if your debt was truely and solely and belongs to collect america. Collect America is a debt company and does get rendered services by other clients. I do know that they have their own purchased and non-purchased debt. Both ususally stay six months. The purchased ususally if not paid gets judgement or garnishment and yes they do have a department that can do that.

Non-purchased could get judgement on it if they think they have leverage. Don't tell them about property. They say they need this information...bullcrap. It's bologne. Don't believe them. It was hard for me to be a collector there. Why? Because they are bullcrap. They talk to people as if they aren't human. In all honesty I hope they do get caught and go out of business. It would serve them right for be such big snobs there. Yeah seriously...you're only getting paid 8-10 dollars an hour...lame. Company is lame. Policies are lame. People are lame. Any other questions reguarding them?

In closing I am sorry to read all these horrible things about this company. I never harassed people. I actually got good feed back from people that I got to pay their bill. I wasn't as money hungry as the others. I understood. I listened to the consumers I spoke to. I'm sure all of these people were caught. This law firm knows they cannot do some of the things they do. If the collector isn't caught the first time they eventually do get caught and fired. So I'm sorry to hear all of awful stuff. It makes them look so horrible...even more horrible than they already are.

When dealing with the Lowery Law Office, here's what I recommend.

First of all, find your Stipulation and locate the fax number. ALWAYS fax your documentation to them. First it confirms they have received your communication and it also makes the Attorneys mad because they know they have to agree that the information was sent. Make sure you have a confirmation letter from the fax machine.

Send them a written notice BY FAX that you want all communcation by phone to stop. Do it early. This gets the bill collectors to stop calling you at home, at work, on your cell phone. Sample letters are available by Internet by usiing a search engine.

File a complaint with the Attorney Regulation Counsel in Denver Colorado located off of 18th and Broadway. You can find this office by using a Search Engine. File your concerns. This has been done a few times allready, which flags the Lowery Law Office as acting inappropriately. I delayed their tactics by over 3 months by involving the office.

Good luck! And I hope someone out there is able to beat this RIP OFF group. The lawyers badgered and were forceful under the law so I ended up paying them. But in any way that I can continue my push to work on making the office to work a little more "lawfully" I will do so.

Just wanted to update that this office is now stating that I owe them an additional $150.00. I have provided them LEGAL copies of my checks that were sent to them that show I've paid them the $150.00 and that the balance due is $43.50.
Just keep your copies and everything you send to them in a nice record collecting format because if not, I'd be out a lot more money then they deserve.
