Jason Patterson of Patterson Construction Services hired us to do the flooring on a buildout. We completed the work with no problems or complaints about our work from Patterson Construction or their customer. We submitted invoices and nothing happened. 30 days went by with no payment. 60 days went by with no payment.
We sent emails and made phone calls and were told "the money is coming" or that they were "not funded yet". 90 days went by with a promise of payment coming soon. Because we believed what he said about paying us, our lien deadline passed and we did not file a lien. Patterson Construction still did not pay us any money. He said that yes he had been paid progress payments by his client. But we still did not see any of that money.
I asked if he had liened the property and he said his lawyers were looking into it. That was just another line of his. He never got back with me on if his lawyers liened the property. You would think if Jason Patterson, being the General Contractor, did not receive all his money, he would have liened the property.
Here we are one year later and he still has not paid us any money on that job. He owes us over $7000.00.
He had stopped returning phone calls and emails a long time ago.
If you are a sub-contractor, be very wary of doing business with Jason Patterson and/or Patterson Construction. If you don't heed our advice, at least FILE THE LIEN at 60 days! Do not wait and listen to the promises that he will pay you.
Money talks and B.S. walks.....
If you are a business or home owner and decide to hire Jason Patterson and/or Patterson Construction, make sure he gives you paperwork showing he paid all of his sub contractors in FULL. But don't believe a piece of paper that can be forged, take the extra step and CALL all of the sub-contractors and ask them if he has paid them in full.
If you ask for that information and he does not provide it, that is a HUGE red flag right there.
HOLD MONEY back and DO NOT pay Patterson Construction in full until you verify all that information. If you do not, and he has not paid everyone, your property can be subjected to a lien.
And lest you think this is an isolated incident, we did several jobs for him before we wised up and starting putting liens on his jobs. The only jobs that got paid were the ones we liened. For those of you not familiar with liens, a sub contractor can put a Mechanic's Lien on your property if the General Contractor has not paid them. This means you can not sell your property until the lien has been paid. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous contractors out there who will produce paper work saying they have paid their subs and disappear and then the property owner gets notified of a lien well after they have paid the general contractor in full for the job.

Re: Cease and Desist Defamation of Patterson Construction Services
Ms. Jonesia:
This firm represents Patterson Construction Services (“Patterson” or the “Company”). Please direct all communications regarding the above referenced matter to this office. It has come to Patterson’s attention that Gulf Coast Flooring & Services has been making false representations and accusations against Patterson to its customers and subcontractors.
Specifically, Patterson understands Gulf Coast has been falsely representing the Company’s past performance, as well as fabricating the circumstances of Gulf Coast’s relationship with Patterson, claiming Patterson received payment from an owner of a project and failed to pay Gulf Coast. Your misrepresentations are in stark contrast to several specific facts: 1) Gulf Coast’s subcontract with Patterson makes payment to Gulf Coast contingent upon Patterson receiving actual funds from the owner of the project, and 2) Patterson was not paid by the owner of the project—therefore—Gulf Coast is not entitled to payment pursuant to its subcontract with Patterson.
Be aware that comments to Patterson’s customers and/or subcontractors that are false amount to defamation, slander, and business disparagement. Patterson demands that you immediately cease and desist making any and all false, disparaging remarks to Patterson competitors, potential employers, and any additional third parties.
Please sign below and return this correspondence to my attention, 3900 Essex Lane, Ste. 800, Houston, Texas 77027, or by email to tross@andrewsmyers.com. Your signature will indicate your receipt of this demand and agreement to cease and desist all defamatory activity in exchange for Patterson’s agreement not to pursue the matter further.
In the event you do not return a signed copy of this letter and/or continue making false representations regarding Patterson and Gulf Coast’s history, Patterson may, at its option, pursue a lawsuit against you in a Texas court of law for slander, defamation and business disparagement, as well as any additional claims available, and if possible, for its attorney’s fees.
Time is of the essence. You have ten days from the date of this correspondence to respond. Your next opportunity will be in an answer to a Patterson lawsuit.
