We recently tried to buy a car at Peoria Ford on 6/30/13. We were one of the first customers on the lot and were looking for a Ford Flex. We had called ahead and were told that the car was still available. So we drove down to the lot to have the car nowhere in sight. Come to find out the Car was in the back still being serviced. To give you background details it had not been detailed, or serviced and was missing the DVD player they were to re-install. Overall my assumption was that if this car was to make it to the sales lot there was going to be a lot of clean-up to take place. Anyway we drove it, and were really interested in the vehicle knowing that it still needed stuff done – we noted that the AC needed to be refilled as during our test drive we were idling and the AC went warm, the alignment was off, the front bumper had like 6 -1 inch scrapes, the front drive seat needed some very minor seat repair to the leather.
With all of that noted we still wanted to talk numbers and see what they would offer. They told us that the bumper was not a problem to replace and probably would have been something that they would have fixed to get it on the lot. Additionally they felt the same way about the leather repair and had no problem fixing our list. (As we have no idea what exactly would have been corrected if the car would not have still be in the shop) So we were given the offer of 19,900 which was the internet price PLUS $1,795 in fees. They told me this was for the DVD repair – however in shopping there before I know they stick the extra 1,800 on all their cars – its their deal to get in you on the lot. So take any price they have plus an extra 1800. Anyway after all the taxes and fees the car was 24k for a 2009 ford flex with 63K. This deal wasn’t looking so hot (but better cause they were fixing stuff) While we are writing up our deal 2 couples had requested to look at the Flex and drive it. Im assuming the last couple that drove it were told by another salesman that the car had an offer on it. So about the time that we finished up writing our offer we were told there was another offer on the table (what was this offer – who knows at the time) – They still hadn’t test driven the car. Well we waited over 1.5 hrs for this offer to become official and this wasn’t without us asking what the hell was going on and why this was taking so long. Our offer that we had submitted was 23K. So after waiting an 1.5 hrs our offer was rejected and we asked for 2 minutes to decide if we were going to give them what they want, within 1 minute we decided and as we were about to tell them so the sales manager told us that the car was gone and that the other deal was accepted at 24K – with no repairs.
We freaked. I was so upset that they had basically made us wait to see if the other offer would be better. I get it when the offers are around the same time, but overall the whole process of this car was 5 hours and it came out that they screwed us over on our offer? So as we were getting Angry the supervisor (BO) of the sales manager came out and my husband was asking for his business card and name an the guy said that he would not give us his business card and was acting like “security” – or basically made me feel like we needed to leave and that we were done. So I raced to my car crying and upset and even more upset about the time we just wasted and how we were treated. The sales manager followed us out to our car trying to repair any damage saying that it wasn’t his fault he wasn’t holding up the offer it was his boss BO was the one pulling the trigger here (mind you we had 2 different salesmen and 2 different sales managers competing for a sale here) . Our sales man was promptly followed by Pat Hickey – the GM of Peoria Ford. He told us to make things right to go look at a new vehicle and he would give us off whatever he could that he wouldn’t make any money on the deal, but that he wanted to make it right.
So we fell for their BS and went back in and checked out brand new car. Mind you that I had already built a Ford flex before – we built a SEL for 38K and got $2,000 off of ford Incentives. Peoria Ford then had a coupon on their site for $3,500 off a car so right off the top I knew a car had to be $5,500 off plus this was MSRP – not the Dealer Invoice Price. So the car we saw was a limited as its all they had on their lot. I wasn’t even going to test drive one of these cause I wanted to see what pricing BS they would put out and boy did they deliver. So Mr Pat Hickey’s awesome pricing that we were supposed to get…. Ahh yes $3,000 off of a $46,000 car. WHAT A JOKE. I just told you above that their advertised incentives off a new car were $5,500.
TO say the least this car dealership will never get my business and hearing them advertises on the Radio has pissed me off. The hidden $1,800 on every car is a joke and when they tell you they will give you a heck of a deal – they are full of crap.
