On March 6th, 2007 a 2007 Suzuki Reno was brought in for service at Pep Boys Hicksville. I had previously bought rims from this store & wanted my tires & pressure sensors mounted on the new rims. I had told the service manager that the car has tire pressure sensors and to be careful because it cost $150 to replace the tire pressure sensor & valve stem.

Apparently the service manger never told the auto mechanic that the car had tire pressure sensors, the mechanic had try to cut off valve stem with pliers
from the outside of rim to let air out of tire, instead of removing valve needle.

I guess he never looked at mileage since the car only had 600 miles. and valve stems are not required to be replaced.

If the auto mechanic was going to try to remove the valve stem and pressure sensor from my rims he would have removed the valve stem & sensor from the inside of rim. The valve stem proves my theory on where it was cut.

I am going to keep the valve stem & pressure sensor for my proof, and will be given back to pep boys upon payment if requested at store.

Pep boys will have until April 4th 2007 to pay for the Valve stem and pressure sensor. If Pep boys will not pay for the valve stem & pressure sensor with in this time frame matters will be settled in nassau county small claims court.

Just so you all know

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

That Fix-A-Flat garbage will destroy the sensors. If you use that junk in your tire, be prepared to spend even more money to fix it right. It eats aluminum rims too. The days of the free tire rotation are over because of the time involved in resetting the computer too.

Hell No

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

I consider SOME mechanics, to be some of the most valuable people on the face of the earth. I've been with one guy for over 20 years. My point was what a rip off the coupon was. I would however be royally pissed IF some mechanic had destroyed my tire sensors. Of course the shop WOULD be paying for the replacements. As a matter of fact, a couple of months ago I got new tires and rims on my truck. The manager at discount tire and I had that very same discussion about the pressure sensors and he took it upon himself, to do the job himself, to make sure it got done right. An outstanding job by a great guy. So there.

Must Have Gone To The Same School

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

Got a coupon from a local dealer for an oil change for $49.95. On the coupon, one of the services that will be provided is; REG-U-LATE TI-RE PRESSURE. Now I'm wondering what type of, if any, formal schooling you have to attend to become certified to be able to REG-U-LATE TI-RE PRESSURE. Probably the same school it takes to mount sensors. Maybe charles can tell us.

Or, since the vehicle

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

is under warranty, you should have had a dealer do it and not had a problem. You went to a fly by night operation in respect to wrenching yet they are to blame.

Perhaps these rims/tires were/are going to void your warranty and that's why you went there instead of the proper place to go?

You are just as much to blame as they since you knew there was an allegedly sensitive issue to deal with.
