PETCO's current Rewards program is supposed to give you 5% of your purchases back on future purchases.   It's former program was to give you a free bag of pet food after you purchased 10.  Both are scams.

In the former program after purchasing 12 bags of food the store clerks kept telling us that there was no free bag authorized.  Because it was convenient we kept buying dog food there.  Despite purchasing 20 plus bags of dog food, finally as a joke, we kept asking and the store clerk kept checking the register every time each time telling us there was no free bag authorized. We finally found a reputable dog food store after we found out Petco had been selling dog food with toxic wheat glutin and did nothing to inform it's customers. Our dog died of Cancer, likely from the melemine in the PETCO dog food.

After we moved we picked up a few mostly non food items from another PETCO, again because of convenience.  Now PETCO has another rip off scam 5% Rewards program.   Again every time you go to the store the store clerk responds that they see no Rewards Credits available.

For some reason I got an email from them a few days after I had just been to the store purchased a $20 item.  The email said my Rewards Credits were expiring.  Yes, two days ago the store clerk said I had no rewards credits. 2 days later they are expiring.

It ends up PETCO has this crazy insane multi step byzantine process you must know about and strictly adhere to and have your purchases done immediately to actually use those credits.  I called customer service and found out that thier computer had been issuing the Rewards Credits secretly and 45 days later terminating them secretly and that no store has access to this Rewards credit and expire information.   All the store clerks were either trained incorrectly or learned that to avoid problems they must lie to their customers about the rip off Rewards program.

It ends up that only if you know exactly the right steps to take and you authorize them to spam your email with ads will you ever learn if thier computer issues any of these $5 quickly expiring Rewards.  Then you must know how to go into their system , authorize more invasions of your privacy, print out the coupon and get to the store fast before they expire.  Just for the hell of it I finally got one printed out that stated it was valid, went to the PETCO store and the store clerk said it was not valid and would not accept it.  No matter what you do and how many hundreds of dollars of time you spend jumping through thier hoops, thier Rewards program is just a joke on you.  They are doing behavior modification.  Training you to never beleive anything they say.

To the above report...

It is the customers responsiblity to bring in the rewards c ertificates, they ARE NOT attached to your card at the register.  When you sign up your card in store employes should encorage the customer to also sign up online there the customer can view and print said certificates and bring them in.  the only discount tied to the rewards card is in store promotions not the 5$ rewards certificates

I get my rewards, sometimes it takes a few weeks but they are there on my account.  You have to spend 100$ and then they give u 5$ rewards certficate, it doesnt have to be in one purchase either, it accumulates.

once the reward is issued however i do belive you have one month from it being issued to use it.  if you are not recieving your rewards, I strongly suggest going into store getting a new card and immediatly register it online.  Sometimes it takes a while for the in store applications to be sent out, thats why i always tell every cuystomer to make sure they register card online also, its quicker and easier and you can print or show on your smartphone

the employes cannot do anything about your rewards, we do issue the cards but thats it.  you would have to call customer service from pals rewards website for any issues you have.

This is really one of the better store rewards cards and I mean i make minimum wage so i have no reason to make crap up.

Also on the flip side i do have custonmers complain that they never get rewards once i ask if they signed up online they say no i highlight there rewarrds account # on reciept and tell them to go home and register and usually it resolves issues.

Im sorry you had such a bad experiance

But i want people to hear from a cashiers point of view, it will make my life easier if customers understood that at the store we cant do anything about rewards issuance it is all on website ....just register online and it will be much more less stressful and easier

hope this helped :)
