Pantellic software came to the "rescue" back in July when PhotoPoint.com ran through all of their venture capital and closed their offices and shut down their website. Pantellic, who created the Website and had been operating it under contract all along acquired the rights and got the site back online in four days.

I would have thought with the benefit of hindsight Pantellic would have been able to make this valuable service that people were paying for work! But apparently that is not the case.

After $125 in costs of converting my conventional 35mm film to digital files, hours of my time creating albums for my family to view online, and of course the $20.00 storage fee to PhotoPoint.com, more than 500 of my family photos are lost in CyberSpace.

I understand that sometimes, business does not work as well as expected. I am not angry that the company went out of business, and I couldn't care less about the $20 I paid to them for fees. I am disappointed to have lost the service. I am, however, furious that the management at Pantellic did not have the decency to tell their customers 30 days before going off-line so that we could download our files that were stored there or purchase CDs of the files stored at their site (this is a service that was already available to PhotoPoint customers). This may have even been an opportunity to scrape in a few more dollars to pay their creditors!

I have been ripped off, no doubt. What's so aggravating about this is that this is not your regular malicious type of pre-meditated rip-off - this could have been avoided! The management gained nothing by not giving their customers notice - only angry users! If they had only told us, so that we could retireve our files everyone would have understood! But it is just plain inconsiderate and selfish for them to just pull the plug. I imagine that there is some sort of legal reason for not giving notice - I certainly hope so, but it doesn't make it any easier for the customers who have had thousands of files stolen by Pantellic software.

"The safety and integrity of our members' photos has always been, and will continue to be, our number one priority. We understand how important your photos are to you." Quote from Dale Gass, CEO PANTELLIC SOFTWARE July 17th 2001
