I bought the top of the line extended warranty that Pikes Peak Acura offers, but so far I had to pay $330.00 for faulty equipment. I paid a lot of money for ths warranty service, and I feel that the warranty should have covered these repairs. I ended up paying for some computer upgrades that apparently upgraded my environmental unit and supposedly the theft deterrent system, and for the replacement of a noisy intermediate steering shaft. According to the dealer, the First Extended Service Corporation would not cover these repairs. The Chevy service department that fixed the intermediate steering shaft wondered by Acura an/or First Extended Service Corporation did not honor the repair as they have done it for the same type of item. Naturally, they will say that you never know when you will need it, but I do not have a good feeling about it. I also blame myself for this situation because they did not make me buy it. I personally would like to discourage others from wasting their money. In my humble opinion, you are better off paying for car repairs yourselves!

Shop For Manufacturer Extended Warranties

If you want an extended warranty always get the manufacturers, not some noname third-party one. Dealers have strong incentive to sell the nonames, the profit margins are much higher. I had a local Ford dealer try selling me an extended warranty. He didn't mention the fact that it was indeed a third-party one. I had to probe to find that out. He stated that this company had 5,000 service locations throughout the US. That sounds like an impressive number but actually it's pretty bad. Divide that 5,000 up by the number of counties in the US and you have a fairly small number. If you look at the number of Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealerships there's about 14,500 in the US. Also, the chances of a third-party warranty company going under are substantially higher than a manufacturers one.

If you decide on a manufacturers extended warranty then be sure to shop the web for the best price. Many dealerships compete online aggressively for these sales. The discounts are usually very good. Let your local dealership have the opportunity to match the best price you find. They may say that the web ones are no good but in fact they are sold by legitimate dealerships with the full knowledge of the auto manufacturer and are valid at all US and Canadian dealerships.
