Hello my name is David and I moved to Texas from Oklahoma, I was a business owner for 15 years and decided to close it down and relocate to Houston TX. When searching Craig's list for a sales job I replied and received a call from pinnacle security for an interview.

When I arrived for the interview (for those who have already been to the interview, please read and most of what I say will sound very familiar) I was noticed about 20 other applicants, dressed for a very professional job, and felt very under dressed. But despite my appearance I was greeted by the manager who immediately asked me if I had any felonies or drug issues, 'I said no, and was grateful he asked because it showed that they were professional . we then headed off to through the company and was shown the standard work place (offices and managers dressed very professional) he then said 'at pinnacle we work hard BUT! We also play hard, come with me)

As we proceeded towards the back I was blown away at what I saw. POOL TABLES, 6 45 INCH PLASMA SCREENS, AIR HOCKY, AND A FULL BASKET BALL COURT. The gentleman then sat me down in front of a 100 inch plasma screen and I watched an impressive video showing a bunch of collage guys driving assume cars and promising that if you work hard you can easily make 500 to 1500 a day, simply by going door to door ('not selling but promoting'') and so on. The video was impressive but raised a red flag not from the door to door pitch but the fun, bling bling collage life they presented.

I was then taken to his office and he asked me what I thought about a job here, and I told him my concerns about me having 6 mouths to feed and am not a collage kid who has their parents to rebound on. He then told me how great the pay is here all kinds of bull sh*t promises. ' I wasn't buying it, especially the fact that he was tried to convince me to work for him when I hadn't even presented my resume, usually I would have to convince him to hire me.

He then told me 'I don't usually do this but I am going to let you talk to the owner ' so the 'owner'' came in very direct and told me if I was a hard worker and did everything they told me I would make 100,000 dollar this year. This guy was an excellent talker and very easily convinced me to work for him, but before I excepted the job I asked him how the pay was and how it worked through commission. And this is what he said.
'you will make 300.00 your first 3 sales, after that you will receive 500.00 on every sale, I asked him if any percentage of this is rewarded to managers or the company.

He said very clearly and direct, there are no hidden fees, the managers who work with you through your training are paid buy salary and DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT receive commission off of your commission, and you also receive 200.00 for training. Simply sale a job and we pay you 500.00 dollars.

Man I was excited and was thrown 30 page to sign, I started reading and skimming the pages which was your standard forms by the state and others by the company, when all of the sudden 6 managers showed up and told me the training classes have started and I needed to hurry up with the forms, I then signed them (without reading) and went to training.
TRAINING

In training I was handed a pitch and told to read and memorize it.

Hello there, don't worry I'm not here to sell anything, my name is ----and I am with pinnacle and GE, you are familiar with GE right, great that is exactly what we are looking for. What GE is doing is investing some money in your neighborhood buy choosing a few sponsor homes to install new GE technology and your home is exactly what we are looking for and blahh blahh blahh!

I took this job very seriously like I do everything and did everything they told me to do, and went out and worked my but off and sold six jobs in two days on my own time (because they screwed around so much that even though I was there from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. we only worked for 3 to 3 hours a day, the rest of the time we played game or had inspirational speakers tell us every day how lucky we were and that so and so had just made 27000.00 dollars this month, and not to mention that being there was a must or you were fired.) This is great I thought, this is a cake job and am going to make a lot of money 'so I thought''

Well I seriously could go on and on how they throw all these promises in your face 24/7 (basically brain wash you) and make you feel like you are doing a good thing for your life, oh not to mention how they try to convince you to quit school because it's pointless since you would be making so much money.

Well here is what I ended up getting paid, and don't forget I filled 1099 witch means I was self employed and no taxes would be withheld.

FOR TRAINING I WAS PROMISED 200.00 AND RECEIVED 152.48
FOR MY FIRST THREE SALES I WAS PROMISED 300.00 FOR EACH SALE AND received 42.00
FOR LAST THREE JOBS I WAS PROMISSED 500.00 FOR EACH SALE I RECEIVED 100.00
HOURS WORKED = 132 HOURS

It turns out that you pay the managers a commission fee and get this the promotion package that you present to the consumer well it is free to them but at your expense.

I can't stress this enough, if your thinking of working there DON'T they are very good at what they do and that is scamming people by bending the truth. They hire 20 people a weak every weak mainly because after two weeks the 'self contracting salesman'' figures out they have been had. And if you are considering to purchase this security system just remember that it is a good system and will protect your home and your family but there are others out there with the same technology that don't use people to make their profit. And if an 18 year old kid or a 40 year old man (mostly 18 years of age) comes to your door with this pitch please tell him to research his new job.

Not a scam

AUTHOR: Pinnacle Manager - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 23, 2011

David(owned a business for 15 years, then decided to find a job on craigslist in houston). How can you call a huge international security provider like Pinnacle Security a scam? It just doesn't make sense. We sell alarms door to door (mostly). Pinnacle spends more money than most any other company to generate an account. What does that mean? Pinnacle allows their sales reps a certain budget  to give a qualified homeowner, anything past that budget would come out of the front end of the sales reps compensation. So if you give a customer 13 sensors when pinnacle allows you to give them 11, then you will be charged for the extra 2 sensors unless you collect money for them. Obviously you gave away too much stuff. I've sold alarms for 5 years. I have successfully funded my life with selling door to door security. I never work more than 6 months full time a year. Why am i good? Everyone that starts with my team is interviewed a bit different than this guy. It is a 3 step interview that does NOT start with craigslist. I put countless hours into training my reps. They follow me and i try to have them emulate me on the doors until they find their own style. I dont' lie and cannot lie. Pinnacle has such an extensive compliance call with every customer that clearly outlines all the payments and timing of the contract. SO even if a person can't read, they hear all the contract details repeated to them on the phone. The customer also does the same call after the install. that's a total of 3 times outlining the rules of our agreement to recieve a system from Pinnacle. If i give away extra sensors i get charged for it, but also i can sell them. I'm really not an emmotional guy and i feel my customers appreciate my straight forward approach. Please talk to a pinnacle manager directly, not a guy who has worked for a week or 2 with little or no success. Also if customers cancel then you do not get paid of course. Yes we get paid great and have fun cool toys. Yes we make money off of our employees, just like any owner of any business. Thanks for anyone who supports logic like myself.

Not true

AUTHOR: PinnacleWife - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, June 03, 2010

I am a wife to an employee of Pinnacle. He hs worked in the industy for three years now and he makes great money and sales a wonderfull product. He feeds three mouths with his job and not to mention the Home, Car, and stuff we all have is nice too.  I dont think a trusted name such as General Electric would back up a product if it was a scam to a consumer or employee.

I will admit that if you DO NOT do your part by reading your contract or understanding fully how to do the job you will get money taken out of your paycheck if you give too much free struff away. Only an 8 piont system is free, anything over that....well SOMEONE has to pay for it...and if you wernt smart enough to do your HOMEWORK then I guess it should be the person who, in fact, made the mistake.... RIGHT??

David did admit that he never read his contract...... isnt that the first rule of thumb when becoming an adult.....my mom told me...maybe someon should tell you David..."NEVER sign anything without reading it first".... But maybe thats why us "young College studant" types are so successfull.... we do our homework and as a result we make 100,000 a year.

UPDATE: Blind Woman....

AUTHOR: bannana77@hotmail.com - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, August 13, 2009

UPDATE:
I must be honest. I tried to contact that blind woman I sold the security system to to apologize. She said that she knew at the time that I was a salesman and that I was going to fabricate things but that she was done using ADT and had wanted to try something new anyways. Although, she did say that Pinnacle was about the same as ADT and that she had had some problems (and said that just like ADT, Pinnacle's customer service was kind of slow to answer her problems), but I just wanted people to know that she kind of knew what she was doing more than I gave her credit for.
But that still doesn't change the fact that I didn't feel right about the dishonest sales tactics I was taught and I was still taken advantage of as an employee and denied wages.

Pinnacle Security IS a corrupt company

AUTHOR: bannana77@hotmail.com - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 12, 2009
I worked for Pinnacle Security last year (May 2008) for about two weeks, and that's about all I could take and still stand to look at myself in the mirror. First of all they TEACH you to lie at every single door that you knock on. Let me teach you their lying tactics: First of all they won't tell you that they're selling security. They even had us hold our clipboard so no one will see the Pinnacle Security label on our chest. Then you're supposed to say that you have been having break-ins in the neighborhood (whether it's true or not). Then they say, "We're with G&E and that we're advertising for the new G&E security system and that we're trying to find some test homes to put it in, and if you simply let us put up this sign in your yard to advertise for us, we'll put a security system in your home for free," which isn't true because they charge a $99 installation fee. BUT that fee can be waved if customer acts today because "We're not going to be in this neighborhood tomorrow, and this offer is only going to be good for today," which also is not true...they'll travel anywhere to rip someone off. They teach you to charge the person as much as you can for the monthly monitoring fee, something that they teach you not to mention until you are already in the house going over the contract. They tell you to charge $45 bucks a month for monitoring fees and only go down to $36 a month if you absolutely have to. Their systems are nice, they are G&E products after all, but I have yet to meet an installation "expert" (as we're supposed to call them) that is competent enough to install it right the first time without breaking windows and other items in the home. ADT, the most popular of the systems (which I wouldn't buy their system either) only charges $26 a month monitoring fees. AND if you decide to go with a local company (which is my recommendation) you can get it as low as $10 a months...seriously. Now this is how they rip off the customer, but they also try their best to rip off their employees.....

My first meeting with one of these recruiters was "inspiring" but was a total let down and a lie. This recruiter (whom I later worked with for several days before I quit) promised me all sorts of money. He asked me how much I wanted to make in one summer and I said, "I think if I work hard I'd like to make $10,000," and he jkust scoffed at that. He said, "I think you can make $100,000 this summer....$50,000 at the least." This just blew my mind. I was seeing dollar signs. He told me that it was soooo easy to sell and fed me all sorts of B.S. about how it was our duty to protect the public and that you make un-godly amounts of money to perform this selfless public service by making these neighborhoods a safer place. He was truly a salesman if I ever did meet one. Very inspiring, but full of lies. So then I started working there and going out from 12:00 noon to 9pm every day(except sunday) knocking on doors trying to sell this equipment and that's when I was taught all these "scare" tactics and lies that I used. Well, near the end of the two weeks I finally made one sell (which was actually better than most of the other employees were doing) and it was to a blind woman, who didn't know any better. Yes, I am the scum of the earth, I used all of the dishonest tactics that I was taught to sell a system to a blind woman, which she didn't need because she had already used ADT for years and didn't know that she could get a discount on what she already had (probably because ADT are jerks too) and save more money than what we would give her, but why would I tell her that when I could get her money instead? I felt so bad the next couple of days, that I quit. And guess what? I DID NOT get paid for that sale that I made. I tried so hard for two weeks to get a sale and I didn't get paid for it because they made up some excuse that I quit on a Friday, and that if I had waited until Monday I would have been paid.....what kind of crap is that?!?!?!? I tried to call their corporate office, thinking that I had just joined on with a bad branch of their company down here in Texas, but he was extremely rude to me and told me that I should have finished out the weekend and I might have got paid. So two weeks of work....for NOTHING. NO MONEY. AT ALL. I was furious, but at the same time, I knew that it was dirty money that I had earned stealing from a blind woman, and so I am glad to know that that tainted money does not weigh on my conscience. It's upon their heads.

I had friends who continued to work for Pinnacle the entire summer and NOT ONE of them made the horrendous amount of money that they were promised. The person who made the most money came out with $5,000. That's it. 54 hour+ work weeks of door to door rejection and you end up making about $5.79/hr.
It is NOT worth it! DO NOT work for these people, do NOT buy from these people. Do your research and you'll probably find that a local company will give you the best deal and not lie to you about it.

LOL. You are an adult. You of all people should know to read what you can. I don't know who you talked to, but your contract was no more than 8 pages. I signed the same one. I read what I signed however, and I know how I got paid. Yes, you can get paid what they say, if you do it right. Unfortunately for you, you didn't read or understand what you could give away. I don't know what sales experience you have, but you CAN give away your own pay when you don't sell things correctly. Maybe next time you'll read what you sign.

False and misleading

Pinnace is a great company to work for. I have worked with the Houston office several times as an employee and know that if you work hard then you will have a great opportunity to make some good money! You first check they take out standard things such as shirts and what not because simply put, sales isn't for everyone. And most people that quit don't return the shirts they get, which add up. So your first 1 or 2 checks you have shirts and licensing taken out, so yes your check is the amount they say, minus shirts and licensing so they can recoup some cost in case you decide to quit. All summer selling companies like Pinnacl charge you for shirts, and other expenses because as said before it is a high turnover business, door to door selling is not for everyone.

Pinnacle Security is a GREAT company to do business with

AUTHOR: Trav12 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 22, 2009

I currently work for Pinnacle Security, I have the system in my home and could not be happier, not only do I own the system, I also am an employee of this company. I have never been promised money that wasn't delivered. My manager does a great job of training every guy under him, and YES my manager does make money off of me, BUT it doesnt take money away from me. He makes money off of me because I make money for his office, that is how a manager of any company works, of course if you are a manager of a sales rep you are going to make money off of your employees that is how it is in ANY sales job.

Of course you are a 1099 contractor, and you know upfront that you will not have taxes taken out. We do get to play alot with this company but only if you work hard, of course we get rewarded for the hard work and long hours we put in. I reccommend pinnacle security for anyone, and yes that means I would reccommend it for my own mother, in fact I pay for her to have our security system in her house! I will continue to work for this company, I am making more money than I ever have before. My manager not only encourages me to stay in school, but also I am a MARKETING student and my manager actually got this job to count towards internship hours.

I worked for pinnacle for over 2 years, I can't see how people think were a scam, we have great product with General Electric, who has a great reputation! We don't scam people, maybe twist things around, but that per salesreps and tech, if there caught they get fired right on the spot... If you work hard you will make alot of money. I sold i got great money never lied, I installed, I got great money.

So is ADT, Monitronics, APX, and AMP Scammers to? well if we are sure as heck they are to.

Don't say things if you havent actually worked for the company.
