I have had a boat for about 18 years and have stored it at the same arena the entire time. During this time. As most people know there is a lot of maintenance that is involved in owning a boat. I have twin Crusader 8.1 engines. I buy all of my supplies from the marina and have them install any equipment.

The marina purchases much of their equipment from pleasure craft engine group located in South Carolina. I have been a loyal customer for many years and have spent thousands of dollars with them.

With that said, I purchased 4 new risers and elbows for my engines as it was time to replace them . the cost of materials and labor was about $2000. One season later I find myself with a catastrophic engine failure. After two experts with more than 30 years who examined the engine both concluded that it was caused by one of the new risers purchased from this company. It seems that there was too much cast built up and the metal gasket would not fit tight enough when installed.

The company admitted the defect and sent a replacement part to the marina for us to compare. It was obvious in pictures were taken. The problem is that the defect caused $4500 worth of damage to the engine. Compression and number six-cylinder was completely shot in the manifold was destroyed.

This damage was caused 100% by the defective part. There is nothing I could have done about. Not only did it cut my season short but I'm out all that money. The company at first asked me to make them an offer to go away. When I told him that the bill was they told me the part only had a 30 day warranty. That is ridiculous. The part has a life of seven years according to the manufacturer. The company now tells me that there was no defect even after they admitted there was a defect and they are only going to pay for the part and labor to install the part. The part was about $200 in I'm stuck with a $4500 bill due to the one defective riser I received.

My expectation level was that they would be some level of compromise for such a good loyal customer. If this is the way they treat their loyal customers can you imagine being a first-time buyer. I would be very weary of buying from this company if this is their current business practice. I tried to speak to the present of the company who refused to take my call. Beware. This is not a discount shop in the company will not stand behind its product.

Pleasurecraft reaches settlement with customer

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Friday, July 01, 2016

I am the customer that originally filed the complaint. After several conversations with the president of the company we have reached a settlement that is agreeable to both parties. I believe that the defect that went unnoticed was certainly not intentional. The company has made good on satisfying my claim. I do intend to continue doing business with them and consider this in unusual set of circumstances. Since I personally did not install the units it was impossible for me to identify any defects prior to installation. How could this situation been avoided. I do not know. As a loyal customer I wish we could have come to this decision quicker but I am satisfied with the result.
