After an unsuccessful search to find a contractor who could build a garage for me within my budget I began to learn about pole barns as an alternative to a garage. I came across Michael Oldfield's websites http://www.PoleBarnsNY.com and http://www.PoleBarnBuilder.com on the internet.

After spending several days looking at his as well as other pole barn websites and learning as much as I could about them from the internet, Mr. Oldfield arrived at my home on 5/27/2015, at my request.  After seeing and hearing his presentation I was impressed enough to go ahead and contract with Mr. Oldfield to build a pole barn for me.

I picked out styles, colors and options from catalogs Mr. Oldfield brought with him.  The total cost of the project was finalized at $11,635.00 plus any building permit fees and stamped plans. I gave him a check for $6,135.00 as he requested. Mr. Oldfield told me that there was a 12 week lead time so my project would not be started until the end of August 2015.

I contacted him in early September 2015 as I had not heard anything since July 2015. He told me his wife had been in the hospital and he was running behind schedule. Towards the end of September 2015 I became more concerned that I still did not have a start date.  At the end of October 2015 I again contacted Mr. Oldfield.

He phoned me back and told me that he was unprepared for his wife's stay in the hospital and had to spend a lot of time taking care of her.  As a result of that all of his employees quit as they were only paid if they worked, and they could not work unsupervised. Mr. Oldfield then asked if I would be willing to wait until early spring of 2016 to start construction.

He was sure he could have his business reorganized by then.  He offered to reduce the amount due on my project by $89.00 for each month he was late, starting with May 2015 through to the time consruction was completed. $89.00 is the amount I pay each month to rent a self storage unit. I told him he didn't have to include May-August 2015 in that as I had agreed on the 12 week lead time mentioned previously.

It is now July 2016 and I have heard nothing from Mr. Oldfield since I last spoke with him in October 2015. I have text and phone records showing my attempts to contact him.

I filed a complaint with the New York State Attorney General's Office - Rochester NY Division.

I believe that Mr. Oldfield never had any intention of building my pole barn.
