In december 2013, We were in Appollo Beach, Fl. We unfortunatly ran out of gas. No problem, we have aarp roadside assistance. We called from our cell phone and reached the main center, told them our problem. They called a towing company and said they would be there in 35 miinutes. We waited over 35 minutes and aarp main center called and asked if the towing co. was there yet and we said no.

He called the towing co. again and confirmed that they were coming in 15 to 20 minutes. We waited for 25 minutes and can we called the towing company and they said the driver was on I- 75 and would not be there for 40 to 45 minutes and said they had dispatcher that was not familar with the system and that previous request was not called to driver.

We waited another 45 minutes, no call from main call center to see if we had  been helped. we called the towing co. after another 45 minutes and they gave us the exact same story, new dispatcher and the service call had not been given and it could be another hour to arrive.

In the meantime several folks stopped to assist us, we said no we have someone coming with gas, ha-ha!

Finally after three hours baking in the sun ans my wife having to go to the bathroom, we stopped a young man on a small motor scooter and asked him where there was a gas station. He said " about a quarter mile up the road, and do you need gas?" We said yes. He said " okay I will go get some gas for you" That young man drove his scooter to his house got a gas tank, drove to the gas station and filled it with his own money, and brought it to us. What nice man!

We put the gas in, while he waited to make sure it started. The turned over and started. We thanked the young man and gave him $20 for the gas and his time.

We put a claim in to aarp premier roadside assistance and was denied because it wasn't "preautherized".

For this "service I pay $84 per year!
