PRESSLER & PRESSLER ripoff East Handover New Jersey

This company should have a lawsuit brought up against them. How dare they conduct themselves in the manner they do and get away with it! Back in 1997 I just started a new job, lived at home with my parents and had a 3 year old to support. They found me and harassed my mailbox day in and day out with their threats to take me to court and garnish my wages so on and so forth. They obtained an old bill from the phone company which at the time of collections for the phone company was $1098.00 round about, by the time Pressler got their hands on it added fees, charges, court fees, etc the bill was over $3000.00.

I really got scared, having a young child, new job and a debt left from my ex-husband of over $10,000.00 I thought how much more could I take. I ignored their letters to appear in court three times and the last letter said they would come to my house and have me arrested. Well, needless to say I should up at Newark Court to confront my problem and they never showed up. I sat their with the judge and explained my situation and assured him that I will try in any way I could to resolve my matters as best as I could. They judge was compassionate enough to tell me they don't have a prison for debtors but as a young mom I may not want to have my credit damaged. I left that court with such anger toward Pressler that it just made me stronger in facing my ordeals.

Later that week I contacted the phone company that I originally had my problem with and went through every customer support rep. and everyone in the billing department until they finally found my case. They explained to me (and I should have had them put this in writing to sue Pressler) that my case was deemed a dead issue they wrote off the debt knowing they could not collect and filed it away. Pressler bought the case as they do with most cases in pursuant of the money and add all the fees they could charge knowing that the poor and struggling would panic and pay! The phone company said that because I did have this reflecting my credit that if I wanted to make good on it I could pay them half of what the original bill was and settled to about $500.00 and change.

Did I ever pay Pressler, NO! After I sought to arm myself with knowledge about bad credit, my legal rights and collection agencies. I contacted them and told them after seeking legal advise about the situation that if they ever pursue this matter further and attempt to take me to court again I would slap them with a Harassment lawsuit for filing claims to recover money for a non valid issue. I continued to that they could take file the claim in the garbage because I settled the bill with the phone company and they could never attempt to come after me about it and I had proof!

Well can you believe to this day almost 18 years letter in December 2006 they still send their lawsuits to my parents house. So for those out their in the same situation arm yourself. Go to the original source of the problem not Pressler. If you have credit cards, furniture company, phone bills, try to settle with them, in most cases they will be more than happy to settle and it will save you more time and money.

FIRST, STAY OFF THE PHONE!! Do EVERYTHING in writing, by cerified mail, return reciept requested. Put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records.

Second, NEVER speak to or pay a third party collector or junk debt buyer. Always ignore them and make them sue you. Most won't.

You have the right to dispute the garnishment. You ned to contact the court and the attorney by the means above and attach proof that you already paid this account off.

Now, file a BAR ASSOCIATION complaint against the 'attorney' involved for illegal/unethical activity.

Now, you need to demand copies of all paperwork filed to get the judgement and the garnishment. I can guarantee they falsified documents somewhere along the way, which is a criminal offense, and can get both the judgement and garnishment vacated.

What they are famous for is serving some old address of your to get "good service" and when you don't respond, they file for the judgement, and the garnishment.

In NJ, they can only garnish 10% of your earnings that are over $142.50 per week gross. And you can dispute this by means of a hardship hearing. Your basic needs must be met, which means they get nothing if you are that poor.

Hi sorry to hear about your Pressler & Pressler horror story. I too was in your position 8 years ago with them and they did try and garnish my wages but I paid them off. Sounds like you need to file suit against them and since its paid off the judge will take note of why they are billing you twice and failed to report it. Maybe you will win part of your money back plus fees.

Hope you get them guys for all their worth. Also, every try calling the local news they usually can bring light to most situations and make them go away.
